I have been getting constant tingling sensation in my lt arm, starting with my big thumb and then spreading gradually until it reaches the top of my arm. Sometimes I get it in my rt arm as well but not so so much. This morning, I was very worried, I noticed whilst in bed, the rt side of my head seems to be numb with sensation of pressure and tingle for a little while. I have had pressure on my head before as if blood is rushing to my head but nothing serious was found.

I wonder if this is all caused by osteoarthritis in the neck!! Anybody suffering with this condition and do you experience constant tingling sensation in your hands and arms? I have been referred to see an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Physio. Am on the waiting list with physio but have not heard anything from Ortho Surgeon? I have also got a constant ache on the inner side of my right elbow, it looks swollen. I am really worried about the constant creaking and crackling noise in my neck, same with the knees.

I try to keep positive by doing exercise every day. I try to alternate my exercise with pilates, yoga etc. It is difficult to be positive and cheerful when your whole body aches. I am trying to stay away from the painkillers except for the ibrufen gel and to be honest, I do not think it helps. I am exploring alternative supplements, I am taking Noni, a super juice, black berry juice and joint exlixir. My dr recommends glucosamine and the exlixir contains 1500 mgs of glucosamine and 1500 mgs choindritin (not sure about the spelling).

I feel such a whimp complaining. I just want to know whether all these are normail with osteo of the neck. Thanks

    Hi Marie :D

Sorry to hear about your problems. :( You complain on here all you like. This is the place to do it :!: :!: I think it is good that you are exercising though. :) I am suffering from sciatica since the beginning of November but as I was looking after my mum had no time to go to physio which I have just started recently. If I get no joy there the gp says it is a trip to see a back specialist that I saw for another problem, that seems to have righted itself, for the time, being in 2006.

I am getting tingling in one leg along with pain but not all the time. So unlike you, at least I get a breather every now and again. I have now attended physio once for my sciatica and already I feel that it is starting to help. Still getting the tingling and pain but perhaps not so much. I go again on Monday.

My neck and body creaks but the physio says it is nothing to worry about. She has given me exercises for my neck and shoulder as I am suffering with them right now too.

I hope you get to see a physio soon and get one that you have a rapore with. Try to keep positive, as you are doing.

    Luv
    Elna x

Hi, I have oa in my neck and have had pain in my left arm and shoulder. After an mri scan, they told me a very small peice of bone was just touching a nerve, but did not think surgery a good idea, as the position of it could cause other problems. I'm happy with that, as I know what it is and unless it gets painful, I don't fancy surgery! It may be a good idea to discuss your condition with your gp as it may be different for you. Love Suexx

Thanks for all your support, it is good to know I am not the only one. I am on the waiting list for physio and the letter says if the treatment does not help, I will be booked into the musculosketal community assessement and treatment service. I wonder what the team consists of, I can think of a physio and occupational therapist, i cannot thing of anybody else.? I am sure mine is due to a trapped nerve, what sort of treatment to untrap it? I have been having this since December and it is not getting better as I my right arm seems to be afftected as well. The pain is manageable now but it is draining to live with constant ache.

My problem started 14 yrs ago with back pain. As I was working as a nurse, it was put down to my profession and was not diagnosed although I did attend a Rheumatologist and pain management clinic. The pain slowly creeps to my knees, my hands and different part of my body until recent terrible shoulder pain which was due to osteoarthritis to the neck. I just dare not think what part of the body will be next. It seems it will become generalised. Hubby is not very sympathetic, he thinks I am thiking of the worst scenario and feeling sorry for myself.

Does anybody on this forum coping without any prescribed medication? Does osteoarthritis cause swellilng, I have noticed some swelling near my elbow joint?

I have just bought a memory foam divan and am pleased with it, I sleep fine although sometimes the pain wakes me up. I do feel like a whimp as my condition seems mild compared to others.

    Regards.

    Marie

    Hi Marie

Sorry to say but idont think anything can untrap it......it just does it itself. With my RSI rest is only thing that helps......with rest of ailments!! depends......if hips start hurting i def.need to go to gym on the machine for legs to ease it.......if in agony best not to walk so cycling is better. i only take meds when pain stops me sleeping then wakes me up as i dont want to rely on them.
As you dont know what you have and this usually takes ages...if only all tests were done at once but most peeps will tell you it takes months/years because you are sent for physio first. i think they do this to see if that does the trick ie. its probably muscles...then you can be sent to ortho surgeons,x rays scans etc, podiatrist etc.......a long journey.......swelling...i dont get that in joints but have had it in hands which is tendinits. I also have a slipped disc in lower back and a fractured vertebrae, apart from that feel like a 20 year old.............

Hi Marie, as all the others have recommended exercise and physiotherapy are the first steps in the treatment. If these do not help it is probable they will arrange an MRI scan, not every one required surgery, but some do, particularly if there is a spur of bone (osteophyte) which is not only pinching the nerve, but as they sometimes do, blocking the passage of the nerve.
Make sure you tell the physio all your symptoms as often there can be a completely different cause.
Be reassured the the physio will or should not cause further suffering.
    Best of luck. Linda

    Hi Marie,
Sorry I have only just worked out what pm's are, so forgive me for not answering sooner. I have answered it but before you go down that road see if you can have some more tests, xrays or MRI's, you may not need them with Physio etc. Take care.
