Just thought I'd start a thread where we can post any replies we've made or thought of when people on the street/ at work etc make unhelpful comments about your arthritis. There are some very funny and witty people on this site, so I thought it might be a laugh as well as giving everyone some ideas to store up for the future to unleash on those unsuspecting people who think it's helpful to say "Can't you walk?" to a complete stranger.
My favourite reply to a stranger saying this to my sister is still "Yes, she can, she's just very lazy".
But I'm sure everyone has better ideas :-) hi there i have to wear wrist splints some days at work i work in a petrol station and people always say ooh what have you done i say i punched someone for giving me lip then i tell them what ihave they just look at you your to young to have ra i say well i,ve had it 14 years years now one lady i serve how has excatly the same as i have but is lot older and has twisted hands hope to god mine dont go that way but its started any way. she always asks can you fill my car for me i say i cant cos i have the same as you she just looks at me in disgust just cos i dont look like im deformed doesn mean there is nothin wrong with me . also had a new shoulder in june 07 went back to work after 8 months still cant do alot of things but i try . i cant stretch my arm out to get money off customers ill say how long do you think my arms are then i have to go thru it all again lol x

we could get some of the great replies printed on them, that way we wouldn't have to keep explaining ourselves!!0 -
Give me strength!
It's the wheelchair beaters that get me down...
You know, the ones who are in such a tearing rush that they can't wait two seconds for you to pass them and insist on dodging and diving in your way in their fervour not to get delayed by a disabled person.
The reply? Oh sorry, I seem to be in your way.
Then there's the GP surgery receptionist...
You ring to book transport for a hospital visit. She asks you what's wrong and you tell her you have arthritis in both knees and shoulders. She then asks you if a car will be OK. No, you reply, it'ls too low to get in and out of. Oh, she says, why is that and sounds surprised when you repeat you have arthritis in your knees and shoulders!
Then there's the perfectly young and fit BB space poachers with a mouth that needs washing out...
Excuse me, but that's a disabled bay and you don't appear to be displaying a BB. Could you possibly move your car please as I'm disabled and I can't get into the (say, supermarket) without being near the door. Who the ***k do you think you are telling me where I can and can't park? I'm in a ***king hurry and I'll park where I b***** like. Get out of my ***king way you revolting cripple!
There is no answer to this one - not that I've ever thought up at least.
The British public can be truly wonderful sometimes... :x0
