Yesterday was just going in to my doctors car park when a woman cut me up.... I was in loads of pain a really bad day. This woman parked in a disabled bay (the only one) as the car park was packed.... wait for it...... she did not display as badge. I am normally very placid and turn the other cheek and wouldn't say boo to a goose.
The devil must have been in me...I said " you have forgotten to display your badge" she was about 40 with snazzy shorts and pink hair as she jumped out of the car, "Im collecting meds for a disabled friend, I wont be a minute"
I said " I hope one day you are never suffering with chronic pain so much that moving makes you want to throw up" she said" I could do with out this" and I said "believe me, I could do without it too"
I was so proud of myself...Grumpy Old Woman Rules!!!
Charles Bronson would have been proud lol!!

Well done Lorrayne you should be proud of yourself Shame the other woman has no shame at all :x I wish they'd have people to patrol disabled bays and kick the abusers out.

Well done Lorrayne, I've posted on here a few times about the rudeness of peeps towards me with my badge. They seem to think because I am young with young kids I can't be disabled.
On a good day when they say "that's a disabled space you know"
I say "yes and that's a disabled badge on my car, can you not read?"
But on a bad day last month, an old woman started shouting at me out of nowhere, this is after I've limped to my car and almost hit the car with my trolley I was struggling so much. I'm sorry to say I said to her "F**k off you old c*** and mind your own business" Never seen anyone shut up so quick in my life.
I came home crying and phoned my Gran who's 80 to comfort me and tell her how ashamed I was. I never use language like that, especially the C word, but something in me snapped. She said "I'm sure she deserved it!"0 -
we pulled up in disabled bay yesterday,i was in too much pain to get out of car so o/h did the shopping whilst i sat in the car.
i sat watching & a woman came along no badge in her car,got in,put her mobile phone to her ear & reversed out.she nearly hit a woman that had parked took her ages to put her badge in window, get her stick out of the back of the car.
then to my amazement the older lady stopped & said sorry to the 1 reversing & let her by :x
if i was up to it i'd have got out & given her what for.but i couldnt  couldnt get out the car when i got home without help.oh dear let the side down again  debsx0 -

There is so much abuse of the system it's shocking. I've always been alone when it's happened or with the kids, I feel bad for posting the above, I hope you lot don't think I'm a bad person for saying that, as I said I never use that language and the kids were not with me. My hubby is very mild mannered and hates confrontation. I'm actually starting to worry about parking now I've had so much abuse. He said he is absolutely gagging for someone to say something when he's there so he can give them what for. I am shocked at this as have never seen him lose his temper in the 9 years we've been together. I hate seeing all those cars with no badge and someone genuine can't get parked because of it.0 -
hi,i dont blame you.the pains enough to cope with.daily activitives well thats another story,as you well now.
we have tried several times to get a disabled parking place at the hospital.the 1st time we tryed 2 cars pulled up,parked.they all got out. 1st car got out the wheel car,2nd car got out put up an umbrella & they all strolled off together. we had to que for parking 30 mins & had to pay. :x
im in the process of writing a letter to t....s about the parking bays.
the way its laid out for disabled parking is a joke,im gonna add about the abuse too,due to this site.the t....s in question is due for expansion,so my layout is being posted.
i may feel like ive done something if i can just make a difference for a few, wish me luck.debsx0 -
My OH and I went to the opening of my art exhibition last night. Now in front of the Museum there are six spaces for disabled parking. When we arrived, they were all full. My OH had to drop me off whilst he had to drive off to the backof beyond behind the theatre (where there was a childrens do on). I walked along the front of these cars and there were only two cars with blue badges on. I went into the museum and mentioned it to the manager, who strugged it off and said "it happens".
It ended up that my OH had to drive off up the road and park in a multi storey in a one way system. At the end of the do I had to walk up a steep hill to the multi storey, albeit only about a 100 yards away or so and easier than having to drive round a mile one way system.
As you say, the system is abused.

I wouldn't feed too bad - I have snapped before when I have been in a lot of pain.
I can totally relate to having people judging from first impressions and thinking you don't 'look' disabled.
I don't have a car, but have to get on the bus with a buggy on a regular basis. Obviously I go for the priority seats which are next to the buggy space. The buggy isn't stable so have to hold it, and I can't stand on the bus. People always look at me dissaprovingly once all the other priority seats are filled - I am young (22, but look younger) and without sounding too up myself, I am pretty, slim, nice clothes etc. People simply don't believe I could be disabled. Ususally I stand for people because I am too embarassed to sit in a priority seat when there are elderly people etc. on the bus, because I don't look like I need it.
I got really angry the other day though when an elderly couple got on the bus, and people made space in some priority seats for them, but they said they didn't want to sit there, they wanted o sit on thye sunny side of the bus (where I was sitting). they started whispering among themselves and looking at me as though I should move for them to sit in the sun, and stand up!!! I didn't move because there were 2 seats there for them.
I did get off at the next stop and made it very clear I had mobility problems when I got off the bus with a bl00dy heavy buggy!!
sorry to hijack the post - rants over.
Well done to everyone who has spoken up for themselves! I wish I had.

Well done you. You deserve to have a rant about things like that. I am 33 and like you, many people think I am younger, people usually assume I'm mid 20's. I posted once before about when I was 19, the bus was full, it was late at night and an old man singled me out to give up my seat. When I refused he made the usual sarcastic comment loudly about young people these days. I advised him sharply that I had just done a double shift in a nursing home and had been on my feet from 7am until 8pm caring for the elderly and had paid for my seat. I was exhausted. Some people should really take a good look at themselves. No-one gave the man a seat, in fact they were more on my side after what I said than his! Just another point, when advising an older friend recently about my troubles, he said he has them too, "the young ones always abuse it" I had to point out to him that I have never ever had a comment from someone young, exactly the opposite.0 -
I think everyone on here is absolutely right to have a go at people who park in disabled bays but don't need to, it's completely out of order. It makes me really angry too, I don't have a blue badge but my sister has had cerebral palsy since birth and the number of times we have been out and not been able to use one of the dis bays because some idiot has parked there not displaying a blue badge.
I used to have a real go at my local supermarket because, on making a complaint about the one dis bay there always being occupied by the same car without a badge, someone actually let slip it was THE MANAGER of the store parking there. I went in several times after that to speak to him but he was always "busy".
The last time I went there (a couple of years ago, I don't go there now out of principle), I said to the customer services lady "Well OK then, if he's too busy to speak to me or call me, I've been more than reasonable, I'm going to see what the local papers have to say". They couldn't get him down to me fast enough then. He actually had the nerve to ask if I was disabled and if it affected me. I told him it was none of his business whether I was disabled or not, being manager didn't mean he could restrict access to those of his customers who needed it most. He never did park there after that.
Result :-)

Hi Lorrayne, well done I say, people who mis-use disabled parking bays really wind me up, I parked in a disabled parking bay at the doctors, put my badge up and this man came up and said that I wasn't entitled to park there, he even sent the security man to check that I had a badge!! I was livid and said that I don't have my wheelchair in the boot for nothing, people really make me mad, so well done for sticking up for yourself love Jaspercatxx0

Hi Everyone,
Carry on complaining !!!!! the abuse of disabled parking spaces is terrible , in Scotland I believe from the new year ,it is going to be an offence and people who do not display a blue badge when parking in any designated disabled parking bay , can and will be fined , GOOD ON YOU SCOTLAND --- why can't it be the same in England ?????????????
Joanna :? :? :? :?0 -
Well done Lorrayne!
Well done you!! She probably and hopefully feels really bad now and so she should maybe she will think twice next time!
People can be so inconsiderate!
You did Good!

Two things actually show up reading the above posts.
If you are collecting meds for a disabled person, then if you park in a disabled bay you should still display the badge.
The other one is a regular occurrence. If you are the disabled person, then you should not sit in the vehicle in a disabled bay while a fit person shops for you. I often have to walk some distance at our local supermarket because disabled people sit in their cars with badges while a fit person shops. This denies me and others the legitimate use of the bay. Even if you have already parked then you should move out of the space if you change your mind about leaving the vehicle.
Both of the above would collect a £30 fixed penalty fine in Scotland. The sooner it extends to England the better for all of us.

sung to the music of Chris de Burgh... No, but its about the only time I thank those who sort our parking out. We have plenty of 'diasbled parking' around here, more after 10am and then till 5pm. Its the thoughtless people who park in them without a badge that make the system useless. It seems that getting a ticket is better than not parking next to your destination.
Grumpy people forever!!!!!!
8) Its a grin, honest!0 -

Don't worry Debs.
Yes it is an offence here now. There are signs up everywhere here saying you will be given a penalty, they are on the baby ones too. Sad thing is people don't seem to believe it or don't notice or don't care.
The good news is and this will please Nina. We complained last week that we couldn't get parked, the nearest space was at the back of a very large car park. The hubby annoyed wrote down the registrations of 5 cars and took them to customer services. I was like "they won't do anything". How wrong I was. Within seconds an announcement was made on the tannoy asking for the following registrations to display their blue badges on their cars as not currently doing so and risk receiving a fine. I didn't think they'd move them or take action fearing loads of people staring and waiting for them. But they did. And there were folk hovering outside jeering. It made me smile to see able bodied people just as annoyed as us. Just to add, not a single one of the 5 had a badge.
My hubby just said there when I told him I'd posted about it "did you say about the w****r in the sports car driving past all the waiting cars shouting out his window "have you got nothing better to do?"0 -
Well done you for speaking up - some people are so inconsiderate. It really annoys me when people use dedicated parking spots - and I'm including the men who always seem to park in the mother and baby spots at supermarkets - grrr!!0

I can't take the credit on this one, it was all my hubby. The staff were straight onto it, I'm assuming it must be due to the fine. I used to take one of my elderly neighbours shopping years ago and went in to complain once. Same store. They said they wouldn't do anything. Hopefully now they will spread this out over the rest of the UK and people will maybe think twice before parking there.0 -
Well done, im very impressed !
I get tempted to that all the time but never do - think i may learn from your example and get it off my chest more!
I get so many comments aimed at me being 27 (looking 17) and parking in the disabled bays, definately think i will start to give them back !!

So, what is wrong with a dad and baby parking in the 'parent and baby' spots?
Joseph 8)Joseph0 -
i think it's the men with no babies that are in the wrong! not men with babies, after all it say's parents!!
i wondered what you think about this then, me and my mum and my toddler were trying to park in a supermarket car park, we found a parent and child space, parked in it (i don't have a blue badge so wouldn't use a disabled place, ever!) then as we were getting out an old man in a car started having a go at us saying that he was disabled and wanted our space!!
i told him that actually it a parent and child place and clearly i had a child.
he kept saying that he was going to speak to customer services, they did nothing, but was my mum in the wrong?0 -

Nope, it's a parent and baby/toddler space. A person parking there without young children cannot abuse this regardless of a disability. I see people park there with kids seats in the back but no kids! Before my badge, I never parked there without the kids, as know fine well people with kids need that extra room when opening doors to enable them to get their children out safely. As I mentioned before, these spaces are now subject to fine also if abused, so if he had parked there, he could have got a fine. (in Scotland) Yes it's annoying when you can't get a space, but most of the time all the cars have a badge, so you have no choice to park elsewhere. I would have said, you wouldn't like anyone abusing the disabled spaces so don't expect it's ok to abuse these. You were perfectly right.0 -
thank you eck!
that was my reaction, after all he had no children in his car.
oh the joys of carparks!!!
our local supermarket always has young people parking in the disbled spaces while they RUNinto the shop or to the cashpoint, i might have to start writing down registration numbers and see if the customer services do anything, it would be interesting as they ignore written complaints... we'll see0 -

Before Sue someone wrote to our local rag's letter page about a particular supermarket and the abuse of the spaces. The paper took a photo of all the cars without badges with the registrations obscured. The supermarket all of a sudden became very on the ball about it.
Some idiot wrote in the next day saying he had a brand new car and will park where he wants until supermarkets make the normal spaces wide enough as he had his door banged. He was very cocky about it. Said no-one better say anything to him to move he'll go for them. He hadn't realised it was an offence in the car parks!
Another letter the following day suggested he do what everyone else with a nice car who do not want an accident does - park at the back of the car park away from all the cars! But many wrote in that it was an offence, but the best was from a woman who said "tell me your reg and what time you shop and when my 6ft 4, 20 stone husband tells you to move, I can see you go for him as you promised!"0
