This thread seems to me to have got out of hand now. I hope that no one has been scared by all this and if you have please speak to your Dr or nurse about it. We can read all we want about these things on the internet but it doesn't mean that it has been written objectively or even truthfully.

I know that there are concerns about the mercury content of the vaccination but I am fairly sure that I have more mercury in my teeth from fillings than I will get from the vaccine. It's not ideal to have it there but with some vaccines it's a necessary preservative without which there would be no vaccine.

I don't want to tell people what to do but I would like anyone who is worried to speak to someone who is qualified to advise you. We all have very different situations to consider.

But is it not better to have a bit more knowledge and know a bit more about these things, and have the resources to make up ones own mind as far as this vaccination is concerned?
there is much nonsense out there I agree, but one must take it all with a certain levity, yet even so, what one reads may strengthen and enrich our own conceptual framework as far as these matters go, we should always use the filter of common sense and logic and base our beliefs in what we read on the probability of them being true or false.
fear should not enter into it, just look at the wider issues so we can more easily decide whether to have the vaccine or to refuse it. this is my only intention , to empower people not to frighten people but to inform them.
    I will say no more.
My apologies if I have caused offense or consternation

    best wishes,

    Nick

Hi, I personally would have it, but I'm not in the catagories that need it, as I have OA. I had a nasty bug last week which was a bit flu like, but I can't believe it was swine flu, I wasn't that ill! :) Id have it if offered as the last time I had proper class A flu I was really ill and it lasted for 3 weeks! Thought I had it a few years ago, but it turned into chicken pox!!! :?

    Love Sue

    Hi Sue
The other week, when I had the virus, I rang the NHS and did the s.f. assessment. If you are perfectly honest then it will tell you whether it is s.f. or not. I am having ord flu jab on Sat and will prob have the other at end of Nov when the supplies have come in. The nurse told me that they should never do the jabs together or close together.

Hi Joy, I did the on-line symptom checker and it came out as positive, but to be honest the symptoms I had could have been quite a few viruses. So I dont know! :? I must say its taking its time to go compleatly, its taken it out of me! Sue

Nick, thank you for clarifying. I worry because many ppl turn to these forums for support during times when they are already feeling vulnerable. Additionally, there are many users who are newly diagnosed and who are already scared enough and these ppl need to be able to build up a trust with their Drs so that they can get through the initial shock and come to terms with managing their condition. I have worked with many Drs over the years and have never met one with bad intentions. 99% of Drs are there to help and to give the best advice that they can. I agree that knowledge is powerful but only if you know how to use it and interpret it. That's where the medical profession are there to help us. I specialised in inflammatory diseases but I still wouldn't claim to be an expert in arthritis.

    All the best,
    Cathy

I am the wife of a Biochemist, he now works in teaching science but, before that was a Senior Researer. I myself spent 7 years as a secretary in a prestigious Biochemistry Department.

I only tell you this because I have seen the way the media and special interest groups of unqualified people manipulate scientific information. My husband was quoted on a Channel 4 programme, they edited his words, in such a way that it totally changed the meaning, and putting the question in during editing. It was so clever, only myself and people who knew my husbands speech patterns could tell where the editing had been done.

The company he worked for had a copy of the raw interview, but decided not to prosicute as the case would be too expensive and distract senior staff from their work.

I am only telling you this as a warning about gathering information when you are untrained in the subject. I agree with the Drs post. If worried ask a medical professional. I am not against choice, far from it, but don't let things frighten you. The flu injections have saved many lives in the past and will do so in the future. Sue
