I've got this OT (specialist in rheumatology) assessment meeting at work tomorrow morning...and I feel sick to the pit of my stomach at the prospect! ':|'''

Makes no sense as I've been fighting to get a proper assessment and so I should be positively psyched....must be nerves I suppose! '' this is an important meeting as her report will go to the OH doc.

just needing a little xtra courage':!:' . thanks for listening. Iris x

    thanks Chris, Bertyboy and Rita,':D'

sorry for the 'wobble' yesterday'' .....am fine this morning and have already spent an hour or two preparing bits and bobs for my meeting.
had a good night as my hand therapist (bless her) made me a resting splint for night use 'moulded' to my own funny shaped right wrist...fits as snug as a bug and doesn't allow any movement..worked a treat!

will let you know later how it went. thanks again! iris x

    Thanks Maria! Hi everyone,

Just got back from the OT assessment meeting which took 3 and 1/2 hrs! Feels as though it went well but will hold the champagne until I see the report! '' ''''

Can't fault her for thoroughness though; went over every aspect of my job in fine detail and then even discussed how I was managing at home and what I could and couldn't do etc. She had also obviously read up on my case and was well prepared. It did make a difference that she is a specialist in rheumatology and understood more than me about arther!

True to form, and not trusting ANYONE, no matter how nice they are...I gave the OT a copy of my own assessment so there could be no doubting what I thought or what I now need to do my job. ''

She did also talk in general terms about early retirement on ill health which made me blanch. '' but said she will be putting forward recommendations much akin to what I had put in my own assessment of needs.

OT report will take two weeks, so will have to keep fingers crossed until then. Only the OH doc and me get the report.

After receiving the report I have to meet the OH doc ....and then there's to be a meeting with HR, boss, OH, OT , AtW, union and me!...only person missing is uncle tom cobbly!

Not much more I can do now but wait. '' Iris x

Hi to anyone who's still following this post. Thanks for hanging on in there with me! :!:

I've seen OH again and now have my 'big' meeting tomorrow morning at Head office...they've said it's easier for everyone to have the meeting there (all except me that is as I'm not able to drive just now because of arther.  )

So.....this is IT.....after 5mths of assessments, meetings, stress and anger   :x ....and determination... I've reached the final destination........

will let you know how I get on. BIG thanks for everyone's support through all of this. Irisx

Thanks everyone for your messages of support for this morning's meeting..........it really means a lot to me and is a great morale boost!

I'm just about ready to go....
I've got all the assessments and my friend the DDA with me for company and I've got everything that's relevant marked, coloured and memorised for good measure.

I decided to 'power dress' for the meeting, black suit, white blouse black shoes (slippers would have been more comfortable but..) and have also put my war paint on; though in effect I look more like Lenny the Lion (remember him?) than Joan Collins!

I've also had a long talk with arther and warned him to keep quiet...... no pinching, stabbing or grinding and definitely no exaggerated limping (it's a good job my employer's are not looking at my mental health or I'd be out for sure!)

so, that's me ready......just needed to touch base before leaving. Will speak to you all later. thanks again for your positive vibes and wishes. I've got them in my pocket for good luck......Iris x

    Hi everyone!
well....that was some meeting. I felt as though I was facing a firing squad and it was difficult to have such an intense focus on me   :!:

....but it was well worth it as it has a good outcome :!: :!:

After much discussion about DDA and the various reports basically my employers have agreed to put in place ALL the recommendations and adjustments that will allow me to continue in my current post.
What it means in reality is that they are providing me with a 'job aide' who will do the driving between offices, assist me with all the physical tasks around the office and attend all meetings to act as scribe.

I will have a laptop with voice recognition software and the other equipment that was recommended by the IT guy in January.

All in all it's everything that I said I needed back in November when I gave HR and OH my own assessment of what I thought I needed!

In addition I have a phased return to work of just two- three hours per day, to be reviewed weekly over six weeks to see if it is working out. Only then will additional hours be added again over six weeks and so on until I'm back to full time working..if possible, and depending on arther.

The majority of the cost is being met through Access to Work and the funding is guaranteed at the assessed level for the next three years. :)

I've to continue on full pay at home while everything is put in place and will be on full pay throughout the period of the phased return.

I still can't quite believe it  ...am delighted  and relieved in equal measure :!:

......Five months ago I was told by the AtW assessor that I couldn't continue in my job and her report almost had me out the door at that time. ....look where we're at now! .....

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me through these months especially when I felt like it was all getting too much; your messages kept me going.

Take heart other peeps who are facing the same work issues, and please, please fight for what you want. Irisx
