    Hello,
I'm so glad that things are going well for you. At least you'r home now and although its frustrating, it must be nice to know its all over and gone well. Don't try and do too much though!!!

I know that its hard to accept that it takes a while for the body to recover from surgery, but thats just the way it is. My big op was not for arthur, but the same applies, and I coped by setting myself small goals when I walked. In hospital it was the room doors, getting further and further up the corridor as much as I could. When I got home it was the driveways of the houses up the road, I'd try to get slowly further and further. Sounds pathetic now, but I used to get excited when I managed a new driveway.

Take care and look after yourself. :D
    Lots of love Sue

Thanks everybody! Look at the time, 3.55 am not too good at the mo, but things always appear worse in the early hours. Woke in a sweat and knee complaining chronically  Just had 2 paracetamols and applying ice. The knee seems to be calming down again now..... Back to bed. This is nothing new to me, I did not always fair well at nights for a goodly while after the other knee op.

I do feel positive though and little blips like this will not get me down. I know the end result will be good but I have to be patient and it is very early days.

    Dear DoLittle, :)

How are you today? I do hope you are still feeling there is a way forward and there most certainly is, for you.

I could have slept longer this morning, but that is always the way  I used to be a right early bird, up at the crack of dawn, but over the past few years that has changed for some reason. I am off to the hospital shortly to have the stitches dealt with so we thought we would go early rather than late to get it out of the way.

    Love and hugs

    Hi Elna,
it is going to cause you a few restless nights.Surgeon said your knee was very bad so soon you will start to notice the difference but at the moment it is in recovery. The knee ladies seemed to suffer much more than the hip ladies in my ward.
I really hope you start to notice the difference soon.Meanwhile take it nice and easy.I was awake most of last night too but just couldnt bring myself to go on the laptop.I am convinced I will drop off soon but it never happens.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery

    Hi Elna,

I think your positive attitude is wonderful.

I can remember a friend of mine warning me before I had my TKRs that the pain was a bit much afterwards and she was right...... but I will add that I found it a different pain especially in the night when it was like a deep ache. I supppose it's all the tissue mending.

Do you have a stronger painkiller to fall back on, if necessary, although I do think paracetamols are excellent?

Hope you have a better night tonight...... and I will add that this hand on experience is brilliant for us all to follow, so thank you for that too.

    Hi Legs :D

You are right, it is a deep ache (a good description) and you brave soul, having both knees done at the same time, would have a double whammy of pain, unless one knee behaved itself more. Things always seem to be worse at night too regarding any negatives in one's life.

I do have cocodamol but they don't like me much :lol: so I prefer the paracetamol. Paracetamol was not strong enough for me with the pain on the first TKR or I was more of a wimp.

I have been back a while from having the 2 knots trimmed at each end of the wound and the nurse used a spray on the wound which dried like colourless nailvarnish and that is that :D She offered to cover the wound should I have wished but as she said it was not at all necessary, I declined.

I have my son, partner and grandchild staying over tonight as they wish to meet friends local to here and not use the car. Enjoy a few bevvies!! They are eating out. One bed is made up and they will bring a sleeping bag/duvet for the spare bed so nothing for me to do. They will not be over until around 6.00 when Lola is getting ready for bed for 7.00, so I will have the pleasure of her company but do nothing while they put up the travel cot etc. If she wakes before they are back, which she does not, hubby will be on hand to assist. :D

So for the rest of the day, it is a little potter around, exercises, rest, ice and elevate and enjoy looking out on the sunshine which we have now and wishing I could be digging over the allotment which has hardly been touched because of the snow and rain we had earlier this year. Well, one thing is for sure I shall not be helping this year but it will have to be done again next year too!!

I hope all are being treated gently with arthur and that your weekend goes well.

    Love

What an incredible woman you are, Elna! A few bevvies and fretting about digging the allotment ... and all with pain I couldn't put up with!

In fact I think ALL of you who've had TKRs are amazing.

They put this stuff on my husband's pacemaker wound (he had a local ana. for it as well) and said they'd 'glued' the wound together. I'd have died of fright. I'm a coward of the first order.

Yes, everyone, have a 'comfortable' weekend - and lets hope arthur behaves himself!

:lol::lol: I am not going out for a few bevvies, the "children" are, but I did have a large beer last evening and that was enjoyable. :D:D

:lol: I am not really fretting about the allotment but as it is such a lovely day here it would have been exhilarating to go there and dig a few rows! :D

    Hi Elna,

I didn't have a choice as regards both knees at once but I didn't know any difference as I'd had no major ops before then anyway .....so I don't consider myself brave. The one big advantage as far as I can see is that I didn't have to face another op with only weeks between and it was all over with at once.

My friend had the colourless glue for her wound when she had her mastectomy recently, much better than having to have stitches out, in my opinion.

You did have me a little worried in paragraph 4 because I thought you had a partner as well as a husband and I was pretty impressed you were letting him stay the night so soon after your op

......and you're the one who's stolen all the sunshine it's grey and miserable here .......and I promise you Elna the allotment will wait just like the housework although you may have one or two weeds on the former.:lol:

    Take care.

    Hi Legs

I could not cope with a partner as well as a husband :lol::lol::lol:

I did overdo it yesterday and it is all my own fault. Grand daughter was over 2 hours earlier than expected. She is so cute and every so often would gently stroke my operated knee and massage my toes when I did not have my slippers on and had legs on the settee. She has seen her mummy doing reflexology on friends feet. She is only 18 months, they learn so quickly, I was amazed.

I was in bed by 8.30 pm and the first few hours were pretty abysmal but then the pain and discomfort calmed down somewhat and I did sleep quite well. I twice used ice on the knee, which does numb it all.

Today I really am going to do NOTHING that I should not really be doing. I only had myself to blame yesterday.

No sunshine here today, hope it is with you :D:wink:

    Love

    Hi Scottishlass

You most definitely have much to catch up on, with the forum. You have been away from us for what seems like a long time.

I do hope you are going on ok and not finding work too arduous.

Thank you for your good wishes.

    Hello Elna!
I just looked for you via recent posts & it is a credit to you & one that so many others here will appreciate that almost all your latest posts were made in answer to others posts with worries & problems! Myself, being one of them & for that I thank you so much. You are one special lady, Elna & I am sure I am saying this on behalf of all those others too.
I am so sorry you have had such horrible pain this time post op - but it really does sound as if this will get less & less each day (night-time is absolutely the worst time) but I am so happy to read about your lovely family coming to visit & cheer you on. Your little grand daughter sounds like an absolute angel & I know how much a little kiss & hug from a loved one can beat any old painkiller any time!
Just here to let you know I am thinking of you & wishing you feel better each step of the way - still have loads to deal with back on planet pen but will pop back to check on you meantime!
Loads of cyber hugs & best wishes Pennie XX

    Dear Pennie :)

Although you have much to deal with your sense of humour shows through. Planet pen, what a good description. :) Things happening on planet elna too. :) Pennie, this post pain is not new to me, I would say I had more post pain 2 years ago with the other knee but we did become good friends in the end. :) As you say, it is improving thank you, so going in the right direction. The top of the wound looked a little angry last evening and yesterday the physio said it has not healed up properly there and to keep an eye on it. This makes exercising a little difficult. I did have pain, specifically, from that small area last night. Now it is easing. Physio worked me fairly hard and was pleased with my progress and does not wish to see me for two weeks, but I can call her if I have any problems.

So onwards and upwards for us, my lovely. Each day is different for both of us at the moment and "little steps" are the way forward. One step forward and perhaps two steps back for us sometimes, but we will not be beaten. Remember that. :)

We have a common bond, in that we are battling on, in a quiet way, for different reasons on planet pen and planet elna and we are looking out for each other.

    Lots of love and hugs
    Elna x
