I have a hire scooter at the moment - it is great - since I cannot yet drive. I ride to the shops and then walk once there. I keep it in the back garden ... luckily I have a back gate that opens onto an alley way. I keep it under tarpaulin .... I charge it with a lead through the window...

I'm not buying one as I will soon be able to walk further and drive again!!! But if I need an op again ... I would definitely hire one again and if/when OA takes over ... I will definitely buy one.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

I shall get the Top Gear boys to fettle mine. 8 miles an hour is no use to anyone! DD

Hi DD, you should try the ones you hire in our metro center LOL they are limited to 4 miles an hour.....thank goodness most times hubby takes me in and we take my scooter in then he picks me up.....It swouldnt fit in my little car plus the fact that its too heavy to dismantle {for me anyway} so if Peter isnt about I hire one and drive there...what a difference there is LOL....there are little inclines and most times I I think its not going to make it LOL I can almost hear...."I hope I can I hope I can I hope I can""" LOL

    Love

Determination is the key to all things. Now, hileena, have you ventured further afield? Other forums exist! DD

So.... if damage shows on an x-ray does that mean that it is beyond stage 1?

    Hi Rosebud,

The early stuff shows up as changes on xrays as well so it doesn't say what stage its at. Its all changed now but when I was first told I had it 1st stage was called degenerative changes / wear but then they re-did it to 1, 2, and 3 and now its mild, moderate or severe and there is end stage which was called burned out.

Best thing to find out where you are would be to ask your gp really as they would know. Cris x

    Hi Joan,

Not so good just now  See the pain lady this week so that should help with the trigger points. The mtx is working mind to a small degree so the oa hasn't as much competition.

Hope you and Sue are ok? ((( ))) Cris xx

My hire one only does 4 miles an hour. However it is far faster than I am on legs!! If I had one permanently I should want a more powerful one ... If set to top speed - S has to break into a jog

Before you start souping them up, be careful of the following just in case.

Class 3 - powered wheelchairs and scooters for use on roads. Maximum speed 8mph (12.8km/h) - 4mph (6.5km/h) on pavements - maximum weight 150kg

Class 3 vehicles must be registered with the DVLA. Users do not need a driving licence or have to take a test. They do not have to pay road tax but are supposed to display a 'nil duty' tax disc - which is rarely enforced. No registration plates or insurance are needed - though the latter is recommended.

I never despair, we all have to start somewhere.

Sorry you had a rough night hileena, but at least you weren't kept awake, which was/is a good thing. Hope today goes OK for you. DD
