Hi I'm new on here. My doctor is puzzled about my symptoms and has prescribed naproxen. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be working and is upsetting my stomach even though I am taking gastric resist tablets. Can anyone suggest something that will not upset my stomach? :?

    Hi Flossy,

    Welcome to the forum :D

I can't advise about the Naproxen but you ought to go back to your GP and talk to him/her. If you don't go they assume you're okay and as this isn't the case you need to talk to them about different meds.

Hope you find something that suits you.

    Luv Legs :)

Completely agree with Legs here Flossy, GPs just assume everything is going ok unless you say different. Go back and get him/her to listen and then other med can be tried. Take care x Oh, sorry and welcome too!!!! Jay

    Hi Flossy

Back to the docs for you I'm afraid

I ahve the same problem with most nsaids. My rehumy prescribed arcoxia for me which is similar but a cox2 anti-inflamatory.

Having said that you might be ok rubbing ibuprofen gel or movelat gel into the affected area. I am - no belly issues

    Good to meet you

    Love

Hi Toni. Thanks for the info. I will try to get back to the docs this week and ask about that medication. just looked at possible side effects and not sure if it will agree with me. haven't tried any of the gels before so I might give them a go when i have a flare up.

    Pleasure Flossy

Hope you can get sorted - if all else fails there are ordinary painkillers too.

Let us know how you get on.

    Love

    Toni xx

PS wasn't sure it'd be ok for me either - both parents died of heart failure/attacks.

my mum can't take nsaid's either as she gets heart palpations so i'm a little unsure whether they are safe for me.

Def get checked out yourself to be on safe side, but you can take painkillers? The doc can give you better ones than over the counter.

Let us know what happens wont you?

will do. i've tried co-codamol which does have some effect but does nothing for the swollen fingers and knees. i also have to be careful that anything i take doesn't react with the anti-depressant that i'm on

Just another point.....the doc can prescribe ibroprufon gel or voltarol get {that has diclofenic in it I think} because these gels can be expensive. At the m oment most Holland and Barratt stores have buy one get one half price if you have to buy one...I checked the prices and they are the same as Boots so much better value but the doc might give them on prescription....do you have top pay?

i get my prescriptions free as we are on a low income and my husband has mental health problems so is classified as disabled. don't think i will risk the voltarol as my mum had a very bad reaction to it in the past

    Hi Flossy,

Welcome from me as well.I can't really help you except to say you do need to see a different doctor than as its obvious a change in meds is needed. Try the Cox2's they are meant to be very good and you sometimes have to fight your corner.... Its wrong but the gp's are sometimes a bit like hitting a brick wall.

Good luck and please let us know. Nice to meet you. Cris x

Hi Thats good about the prescriptions but a pity about the voltarol...same applies for other anti inflammatory creams....the GP can prescribe a lot of them......worth a try I would think LOL

thanks for all the suggestions. woke up this morning in a bit of pain but i've just spent half an hour trying to get through to the docs only to be told there are no appointments available today. trying to get in at my docs is like trying to get blood out of a stone.

sometimes i think i would be better off just going to the drop-in doctors.

as you can probably tell this is starting to get on my nerves. sorry for the little rant there.

    Flossy

go to the drop in docs. You will be glad you have done it - if not you will still be in the same position tonight as last night - in pain.

If you think you can honestly cope another night - then try again for yor own docs tomorrow...

don't think i can take another night like that. last time i went to the drop-in docs they just gave me co-codamol and told me to see my own doc. talk about viscious circles.

i've got to go to work later so i might take a walk up to the drop-in docs anyway. luckily its just next door to my docs which is just up the road from home, that's if the pain in my knees lets me walk up the hill.

    Ok Flossie

a week will give you a good idea though and maybe the GP will have an idea for an anti -inlfam that will work too then you should feel way better.

I do hope it works and helps you.

    Love
