It is interesting reading through all of these posts.

I think the most embarrassing things I had to wear was the jumpers that my mum and nannie used to knit for me and my sisters.

. The problem with them was that she would just knit long rectangles and stitch them together for the arms and body. So it was like a straight jacket when put them on.

    Sorry Rainbow

I am ashamed to say I had a bit of a chuckle over this - another mental picture

Well it was early 1970's so maybe I am forgiven.

Oh and platform shoes that I used to fall off regularly -
usually when stood having a drink, and the drink
    would splash everywhere.

Now you are talking, in 1967 my mum got me a provident coupon to buy some sensibles shoes....what did I come home with, white plastic boots  did I get belted

I am impressed. I saw a cream crochet dress in Debenhams on Thursday. Shame it was several sizes too small but I was still tempted to buy it. It would have fit me 10 years ago as my OH kindly pointed out,
and good for you Babs. Why waste the coupons on sensible shoes?

It's got to be hotpants! How on earth did I have the guts to go out in them?? I remember wearing them to a 'discotheque' one Saturday night and George Best walked in and all the girls clustered round him...

I did crochet the dress myself, but had the decency
to wear a slip underneath it, so wasnt that much of a
    hussy.

My daughter who loves anything from the 70's asks
me what did I do with all the crochet dresses and waistcoats
I made and honestly I have no idea where they went cos I dont
remember giving to charity shops like I do know. Strange.

They'll be lurking in the black hole we are all pleased to call 'the attic', or it's smaller sister 'the understairs cupboard'. That's where everything ends up somehow, even if you don't remember putting it there! DD

i had some lovely hotpants when I was 9 plus a short 70s feather hair cut with the very long underneath strands. My brothers friend cut it and my big sis was a fab designer and made beautiful clothes. I had knee high boots too.
She once took me to Biba and bought me a long green maxi dress and once some furry black trousers and also made some purple satin flares.
Past the age of 10 and my fashion went out of the window cos she left home.
i had a khaki jumpsuit too but a proper German tank drivers one to wear on the scooter. Jan Im sure yours was much more appealing.

Kath im coming round your house to rummage thru the attic!

We dont have an attic, we have moved 4 times in our
almost 45yrs of marriage so I dont have much in the house
that I dont know about, so the 1970's stuff must have been
chucked out each time we moved. :(
    Silly me.

Oh Elizabeth - that's taken me back - I loved that Biba shop in the old Derry and Tom's buildng with the roof-top garden.. I bought a lilac/purple crepe long dress by Ossie Clarke from there in the 1970's ... it was beautiful.. wish I had it now I could make a fortune selling it as 'vintage' ..

Not been to London since I developed RA/OA - I must have a weekend treat there when I'm fully recovered from my hip op.. (you lucky people who have Kensington High St on your doorstep.. I'm jealous)..

I dreamed of owning something from Biba. Still dreaming.

I know what you mean about the chucking out of stuff: it is so hard to gauge what might be worth keeping and what isn't. I threw out a load of old toys, including a tiny teddy whose head came off. He had a small glass bottle inside him (I think he was used for perfume) and he was in reasonably good nick but I thought no, I don't need to keep you anymore. Out he went into the black bin. Two weeks later an identical one was on the Antiques Roadshow: poorer condition than mine, valued at £100. Now I don't throw anything out. DD
