HI

well what an afternoon/evening

hubby took littlelegs for her evening stroll, only for them to be attacked by an off-lead out of control dog (jack russell type I think) whose owner, when challenged as to why his dog was off his lead, said 'but he never does anything like that'  :x :x :x Hubby spent most of his time trying to keep the dog from littlelegs, but it was not interested in backing off.

hubby left the owner with a few choice words, and suggested that he should be the one paying any vets bills, but of course in all the worry hubby didn't get his contact details and we don't know who he is.

when we could finally get her to calm down, poor love, she wouldn't sit down, and we had to check her all over really carefully.

this is where I should give a WONKY WARNING that any ladies in particular, or anyone in general of a nervous disposition, might wish to skip the next bit

the poor love had two puncture marks and a huge amount of bruising all around her private parts .... and it makes me wince to think of how it must have hurt  :(

it was impossible to be certain how bad it was, so we had to ring the vets and get her seen .... she's had painkillers which she obviously needed, and antibiotics 'just in case' and we have to go back on Tuesday. Thankfully it is nowhere near as bad as it first looked, but it took two of us to hold her still while the vet did his stuff ...... he is a brave man

no doubt she will be back to herself in no time, but I could do without that happening again, as could our bank balance!

wonky xx

Oh WOnky thats awfull please give her a hug from me, well when she is in not too much pain. Some people are so irrisponsable makes my blood boil. Anyone with a brain knows any dog can just turn and as a owner you should be responsable.

bless you Julie - thanks for that

she is curled up asleep and looks to be more comfy than she was, although I am on my second load of washing as she didn't realise she needed to 'go' and we had a soggy sofa and a soggy dog bed

tomorrow I am sure she will be loads brighter ...... at least I hope so!

Oh Wonky thats terrible. I hope your all ok & littlelegs recovers quickily.
I have a large breed dog & even if i could let him off the lead i wouldnt,he is getting old now & cant be trusted too much. But of all the dogs that have come up & done the ''go on then big boy'' routine with him he hasnt ever turned(wouldnt blame him if he did with some)
You are a responsible dog owner like ourselves & this sort of thing shouldnt happen. Can you report it to police, there was one here the other day that got attacked whilst walking his dog & there appealling for witnesses. Someone must know who the owner is or might have seen something, then perhaps you can recover the vets fees.
Sorry thats happened to you & give littlelegs a slurp from snowy & a pat from me.

    Oh Wonky

What a bad thing to happen to her. It must have frightend the day lights out of her poor thing.

I hope hubby is ok too. I bet he was shaken as well. Then you as well.

I think all dogs should be on a lead. I always kept my Suzie on a lead and she was so gentle but we kept her on the lead.

I hope she feels better soon. Her are some doggy choc drops for her

thanks Debs - you are so right ..... we have always kept her on her lead when out, just in case of any trouble, knowing what has happened to he in the past.

Unfortunately hubby was so concentrating on saving her and putting himself between her and the other dog, that he really didn't get a good look at the owner, no-one else was around, and I know there will be no CCTV where it happened. If it had turned out to be more serious I might have gone to the police, but honestly I don't think they would be interested, although I know I should try to get back the cash we spent.

perhaps we will see him when out with her again, but in some ways I hope not, as once is quite enough!

Trisher - thanks. I agree that dogs should be on leads if not able to be fully under control ..... but perhaps in some cases it should be the owners on the leads rather than the dogs

I will give her the treats and cuddles in the morning, and I know she'll send (gentle and tentative) tail wags back to you both!

Hi Wonky, it might be an idea to take photos of her injurys & of course you will keep the reciepts from the vets. Incase you do see the dog owner again.
I very much doubt you will be able to get the money back for her injurys but you dont want to kick yourself if you see them & try to prove it. just a thought.
Take care & im sure she'll be fine in a day or too. I had same with snowy when he had fly strike, he didnt know he'd wet himself & he looked so indignant(sp) when i tryed to clean the bedding & him up. He was in so much pain i didnt care about the mess & i slept downstairs with him, even on the duvet on floor first night, not great with my bones etc but i didnt care.
    Things we do for them.

    Hi Wonky

So sorry to hear about poor Littlelegs. I hope she is feeling better now. It is very annoying that you are left to pay the vet's bill.

Joan I know what you mean, but in the end we'd spend every penny we had (and more besides) just to know she was not in pain.

she means more to us than perhaps most people realise .... except most peeps on here who have a good idea  ..... and I know we can be a tad overprotective ....... but when dogs of her breed (staffordshire bull terrior cross) have such a bad reputation in the press, often for no good reason, it makes me rather cross when others take less care of what their dogs are up to!

sorry, I think I'd better go to bed now as I'm starting to rant  :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

    thanks again

Oh poor littlelegs. How very, very nasty. I think people sometimes forget that their usually docile dog (perhaps) can still turn into a snarling, vicious creature very very quickly: just because the dog hadn't done such a thing before doesn't mean he won't ever do it. Anyway, I hope she is having a good night's sleep (as are you). A quiet day today methinks, for all of you, R&R is most certainly needed. Poor girl - give her a kiss from me. DD

    Hi Wonky,

He has rolled up his sleeves and on his way to find the Jack......

Its true the Staffie coses have a really bad reputation (and they can be very bad with other animals) but LittleLegs is totally inoffensive! I am sorry she has actual damage ad glad she is on antibiotics! I hope your hubby an her are ok though cus its a hell of a shock!

I have to say any dog is capable of disliking another dog but tis more what happens when they do that defines a good or bad owner..... If mine ever did that (and I have been lucky, all the dogs I have had have been victims rather then the attackers) I would first grab the dog, really tell it off and offer first aid and full vet bill payment.

I have my self been bitten by a few dogs and the owners are just as blase about that.... I wold never go to the police I don't think as I can always find some shred of justification..... Under the DDA the dog would be destroyed just like that so I couldn't do it UNLESS the dog had done it unproved at all.

I am very goo at pulling dogs off as I don't seem to know fear..... but years ago my old Lab and I went for a walk in a forest up country we had just got out the car when 2 Dobes came flying at us and went for my ittle girl......neither were wearing collars and the got her on the ground and as I pulled one off the other ripped open her stomach! I kicked that one harder than I have ever kicked anything and the dam thin went for me...and that probably saved my labs life!

The owner came out couldn't get them to come back to him and I got bitten twice more before I could get my girl back into the car.

He then said I should get out of here if I were you cus they will come back! Irresponsible dog owners aren't a new thing (I was 18 when this happened)..... The DDA covers ALL types of dogs, though 12 are singed out, and how ever bad the DDA is the next 'improvement' will make it worse and its all down to irresponsible idiots!

Sorry gone off on one there!

I do hope poor Little Legs is ok and am glad she is on antibiotics. Its just wrong Wonky cus you know if your dog has a tendency to be iffy with other dogs, it doesn't come from the blue!

Bless her she is probably feeling very sorry for her self today so sending her a roast dinner and a big cuddle and one for you as well.... Hey she said she is as important to you just the right amount! Slurps and ((( ))) Cris xx

Oh, poor Littlelegs. Cuddles and treats from me. No one can ever be absolutely sure how dogs will react, and risks should never be taken.

When our boys were ten and six, we got them a Jack Russell. Lots of people told us that the breed was still too close, in nature to their ratting, and hunting heritage, to be pets. We should have listened. Whilst the boys were out walking her - on the lead - another boy bent down to her, and she bit him. Obviously she felt cornered. We were all so devastated. My youngest even gave the lad his bike! - not the new one he had just got for his birthday mind you, but the thought was there!! We felt we couldn`t keep her, and after much soul searching, we took her to live on a nearby farm, where she thrived apparently. It was one helluva learning curve.

More cuddles for Littlelegs, and ALL of her favourite treats today........Much love.......Ange.x.

Sorry I am late, I really hope little legs feels better today, the shock to you all must have been awful.
When I had my dog, I was always scared I was going to come across one off the lead, you never can tell how they will react those famous words (well they have never done that before)

Oh, poor Littlelegs........hope she feels up to all the cuddles and treats coming her way...........treat her to some from me.

I've only ever owned a yellow Labrador who was the canine equivalent of a dumb blonde and about as likely to bite anything as a goldfish would be ..............but in the 15 years we had her I got bitten by Corgis (twice) Jack Russells (lost count; they belonged to our neighbours and I used to think fondly of putting poison through the letterbox) a Heinz 57 mongrel and a bull terrier type.

I now avoid those breeds/types like the plague........I will cross the road if I see one coming towards me. If I am confronted with one I am terrified and I think they sense it.

Don't think I could ever be pals with the Queen.............

    Hi Wonky
Just catching up & seen this thread. What a terrible thing to happen, I do hope Littlelegs is feeling better today. Vets bills are horrendous aren't they but our pets are so precious we do whatever needs to be done to keep them well & happy.
Love to you & a gentle hug to Littlelegs.
