Hi All
Was in town this morning, dad wanted to get a haircut and i wanted toothpaste and liquorice for him. So we set off into town centre and i got parked at my disabled bay opposite McDonalds. Now people abuse this quite a lot and nip in for a high cholestrol feed but rarely do I see them get punished for this.
Anyway as i say was just waiting for dad (not in car as didnt want to be hastled out of space as he had no mobile on him), and up came the traffic warden armed like The Terminator, stuff strapped to him everywhere, he was a man on a mission. There was a white sort of astra van which he clocked right away obviously had no BB, so he began his process of keying in detials for ticket. After about 5 mins, fella came out with McD bag and starts shouting the odds...Mr warden already had ticket printed out so, vanman got in his van n started up engine...Well warden was quick and stuck ticket right on his wiperblade...That was like fuelling the fire, vanman got out effed at him what was he playing at??? I honestly thought they were going to come to blows....
Secretly inside i was smiling mind, these fowk are so ignorant an dnowadays if you challenge someone they are more than likely to swear at you and get nasty than apologise.....So i think he got his comeuppance and what an expensive McD eh?

Hi Elaine,
I laughed so much when I read this I nearly wet myself. I've always wanted to be there when this happens to someone. I know it sounds awful but I got pleasure out of this, cos like you I know how annoying it can be when people abuse this and make it difficult for us to park and walk further and lets face it, it's not an easy process getting a BB so why should they have the privelege just cos they're too lazy to walk a bit further. It also annoys me when people park in mother and baby/toddler for the same reason cos it's not a piece of cake to get a small child in and out of a car seat in a tight space. Let's face it there's a lot of uncaring selfish people out there, I'm just glad I'm not one of them, I always try to treat people as I would like to be treated myself. Sorry to hear you are so down lately, I don't know what to suggest, it's horrible when you feel like that and hard to pick yourself up again but I'm sure you can do it. My biggest achievments are having my kids, passing my driving test and trying to be the best Nana I can. You don't need a piece of paper to prove you've achieved something, think about all the other things you have done in your life and dealing with this illness is an achievment in itself. I hope things look up for you soon,

You made me smile there
He jolly well deserved it - the selfish and thoughtless bloke!!

Maybe he'll think twice about doing that again for a while and with a bit of luck so will his mates when he tells them about his misfortune down the pub!

Reading that has made my day. I also have a blue badge but when we do go out the disabled bays are taken.
We went to the hospital and there was this man sitting in the drivers seat but no blue badge. Hubby had had enough of this as we always have to pay to use the car park.
On this occasion hubby asked the man if he was going. The man got out the car and was very angry shouting his head off. Everyone was looking.
Well security men came to see what had happend hubby had not been abusive at all to this man. He told the security men. Well they looked at his car and he had no blue badge. The man was told to move oe get a £50 on the spot fine. He could not get back in the car quick enough.
Silence restored and we managed to have a space to park the car.
I'm not sure if every Tesco's does this. They have had so many angry people who cannot get onto the BB parking spaces.
They have increased the fine. If you cannot find a space when you are ready to leave you can take your BB to the Attendant and they give you your money back. The disabled person has to be there for them to match photo with the one in the BB.
I know this does nothing to help if you have trouble walking but our Tesco's have men going around and giving a fine if you do not have a BB showing.
Some people are so selfish.

Hi Sue
Well yes I mean i will admit maybe I have done this in my younger years and if everyone is being honest we have all parked somewhere we shouldnt have in our lives. The point is respect for other people which is so sadly lacking nowadays and I sound ancient saying that.
I know how hard it can be getting a BB my dad's took ages about 6 weeks cos it was sitting around in doctors surgery after he had TKR and he was desperate for it....Mine was easy, shouldnt say it but I went on phone to county council and was on for about 20 mins they sent within a fortnight...
I dont know why im so fed up, well i do but i know people are worse off...
Thanks
Elainex0 -
Too right there Toni
I made me quite satisfied...Lol
Elainex0 -
Hi Speedy
No doubt he will brag about it to his mates claim he was hard done to...
Elainex0 -
Hi Trish
Well sometimes you feel like asking people dont you but I wouldnt dream of asking someone if they had a BB or not for fear of repercussion and thats a sad world.
I think Tesco are quite right to impose this as supermarkets are the one place anyone can park where they want....
I just hate bullies and people who think they are above the law....I approached a woman in Asda the other day as me and about 4 others had been queueing for chemist she just waltzed up and when i pointed out others were before her (including elderly and disabled) she called me a stupid bitch and asked me why i hadnt "the nonce"??? to go up to the counter before her...The reason i had a walking stick should have been explanation enough...I held my corner though and she was abusive throughout but on this occasion I felt strongly about it....
Elainex0 -
ha its great hearing about someone gettng their comeuppance! he deserved it! I hate it when people abuse the BB and mother and child spaces! I have neither a BB or a child and so would never use these spaces. some people are just plain lazy!

Hi elaine
I am also glad the bloke got a ticket , bet the big mac didn't taste that good after that,. ha!
How brave you were to comfront some one especially as she was so abusive. Should have tripped her up with your stick.
Honestly if adults are like that what are their children gonna grow up like. To get abusive only shows they are not educated enough to listen to reason.
juliepf x0 -
Hi Julie
That was exactly my thoughts as the chemist woman was telling me to shut my face and about me not having the "nonce"...Must look that up in the english dictionary...She seemed to think as she had handed her prescription in day before she could just queue jump and i had to speak up for once in my life....Im sure she has kids and she is a brilliant role model..NOT!!!
I once was going to go into a disabled bay space and someone else had been waiting I hadnt honestly noticed and when they approached me i apologised and moved away...When youre wrong you need to show the decency to be wrong...
I have posted on here that if you get photographic evidence of a breach of disabled bay then you can send to council but someone would have to hack me off seriously to do that!
Elainex0 -
Hi Lou
Well its wrong to abuse these spaces and until you really need one then you dont realise how frustrating it is.....It hacks me off too mind when disabled drivers who can still walk and have companion with them leave their trolleys next to my/their cars.....Even if you cant someone else can!
Elainex0 -
Abuse of disabled parking bays is one of my pet hates. I went to our local Aldi this week with my PA and we were lucky enough to park in the last available disabled spot. Whilst I was pootling around the shop on my scooter I realised that I was the only obviously disabled person in the shop. There were no other scooters, wheelchairs, no-one using crutches or walking sticks and not the slightest sign of a limp, shuffle or wobble from any of the other shoppers. I understand some people have hidden disabilities but it does make me wonder if they really need blue badges at all if they can walk so freely and easily around a medium sized supermarket.
Clair0 -
Hi Clair
Well I totally get what you are saying...I think sometimes people give other folk their badge to go get their shopping for them not realising thats not correct code of conduct....
Of course there are other disabilities we can see, mental, toes amuptated etc but we shouldnt judge too harshly, some people try their hardest to fit in society...I would say about getting my badge it was too easy only 20 mins on phone and even though i need it cos i cant walk far i suppose if it hadnt been so easy i would have to have struggled and have maybe gotten fitter...

i hope the guy had a large dose of indegestion to go with his mac donalds and fine.0

Well we can but hope eh?!

Nuff said....
Had an argument with a man who was 'just nipping to the cashpoint' when he parked in the last Parent and Child space that my husband and I needed when we were taking the younger boys to Asda. My hubby (not shy about coming forward) pointed out he didn't have any children in the car only to be told he 'wouldn't be a minute'
Ooooh he was a little livid to say the least!
:x :x :x :x :x0 -
Can imagine he was livid but thats whats wrong now you cant tell people if theyre wrong they are immediately abusive....
My niece even told me now that she found a digital camera in a loo and she kept is as someone had knicked hers weeks beforehand which I found sad as if I lost property id hope someone would be decent enough to hand it in....
Elainex0 -
To be honest, there is widespread abuse of the BB system, I see examples of it every day, exasperating to say the least, the system seems beyond repair.
I stopped alongside one offender the other day and wound the window down and told him he was just about to get fined (he wasn't, as I hadn't seen the warden), as the warden was coming, he was gonnneeeeeeeee!! I got a space.
8) Its a grin, honest!0 -
Hi Airwave
Well I know there is and most of time its harmless people just not thinking...Its the young girls sitting there on their blackberries that hacks me off, chewing gum and waiting for their Big Mac! I got shouted at once as parked on double yellow for 5 mins while i booked a restaurant (and i dont go on single or doubles unless i have to) and this bloke kept shouting "the wardens over there, be careful"...I kept saying i was okay with my BB but he didnt crack onto that.....
tell you what annoys me too when wardens still fine BB holders just cos they cant see dial on badge...
Elainex0 -
Hi EBK
loved your story!!
Misuse of BB spaces does not seem to be well monitored where I live.
It is so frustrating to have to go around in circles waiting for one of the 'great pretenders' using the BB spaces to return and move off. :x Grrrrr!!!!
Iris x0 -
Hi Iris
Well I suppose we are talking about toytown compared to where you live Edinburgh eh? I understand in Scotland as well you dont need to use the time dial with a BB do you? Been told by relatives....
It was quite entertaining watching it all unfolding but had finger on 999 in case the bloke got abusive...Made me think do traffic wardens have a panic button to police to press when things get abusive?
Elainex0 -
That's just brilliant! And well done to the 'terminator' for sticking to his guns - like you say, you never no what you are going to get when you challange someone these days xxx0
-
You're right Elaine
'we' don't use the time dial..... here in Central West at any rate; but it might be different elsewhere in Bonnie Scotia.
Iris xxx
ps. Carola's in lovely Edinburgh... I'm in the industrial heartland near Glasgow.0 -
I have just had the misfortune to pay £5 to park and then come home and found out parking was free to BB holders!
No one told me and they must have seen my crutches!
