Hi Hileena, you will be the pro/advanced student in the physio group class. You should wear a T shirt saying something like, "I've done this before!" You could ask tricky questions and have a bit of fun ... no maybe not if it will be these physios looking after you post op!

    Speedy

PS better a cold now than when your op is due.
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

That's a good thing. Think of the benefits: yes, there will be a period of enforced hospital/house arrest but think of the benefit to your mobility and the lessening of pain. Lovely thoughts! I suppose another good thing is that you have been there and done that, so you have experience under your belt. Are you excited - or a little daunted? DD

    Hi again DD
I am a bit daunted I would say.
The thing is I'm worse since I had my first one. Cant walk as far.,.,.,...get sorer much quicker.
The only thing I'm thinking is that before the first one I was balanced....2 wonky hips LOL
After the first one......I was unbalanced....
I think I'm probably compensating by putting all the weight on what is supposed to be the good one
So hoping I will be balanced again LOL
but on the other hand this second one could be the same as the first....make me feel worse

Hi Hileena, pros and cons to second time round ... you know what to expect .. not necessarily a good thing, but you will have already worked out all the coping strategies needed for managing life on hip restrictions.

Is it just the old hip that is painful now? Your new hip might ache a bit after the op as it will have to compensate for a few weeks - but like you say you will be even out ... I think you'll be a lot better off, once you have had a chance to recover from both.

    Hi,
Its both hips......the good one and the bad one that ache.....also the small of my back.
I was diagnosed with "OA in both hips and lower spine" but the spine bit didnt bother me very much but now its very sore as well.
As for coping mechanisms......I remember most things but how did you wash your hair when you couldnt bend over? I know how i washed mine but it was quite a "faff" and knowing how good you are at adapting I thought I would ask you LOL

Hi Hileena  thank you for the compliment!!

I had a single step stool in the bath with a bucket on, I bent over the bath forwards - but not enough to break hip restrictions, just so water dripped back into the bath and I wore a plastic apron. Up to 6 weeks post op the "TEDS" nurses washed my hair for me and then I did it myself. As I stood I had my new op leg slightly behind me too.

    Speedy

PS Which leg aches more - new hip or old?

    Last question first LOL
I think its the new one although sometimes its hard to tell.
Do you know how I washed my hair? Admittedly its short.
Cleared the cupboard under the sink, used the perch stool, sat on it with feet and legs inside the cupboard LOL so I was really close to the sink. Peter poured water over my head nearly drowning me and then I sat completely straight and shampooed it.He then rinsed it. Might try it your way...sounds better

    Hi Hileena
You are getting there, I would say slow but sure, but its been so fast.
I am still being a chicken, like you i need both hips doing, and a possible knee, but my back is so painful i do wonder if anything will change.
    Sorry making excuses again.
You keep on improving, then you can enjoy Christmas.
