Oh my goodness, I start my new job today....when I got the job I didn't appreciate just how MUCH walking there was involved for it - they sort of sprung it on me... My hip is already giving me gip this morning and it's only 6.40am...and the less said about my knees the better. I have a whole 60 minute walk to look forward to this afternoon. Can I cry now?! :?

Take your pain killers! What are you doing that involves so much walking? Tour guide?! Seriously, I hope your day goes well, I hope you are enjoying the job and meeting new people, and sit down whenever you can! DD

    Hello

Good luck with your new job, could you change your pain meds to slow release? That way you will get some pain relief all day and not have to remember to take them at lunchtime. ALthough personally, I prefer to take mine regularly, to take at lunchtime.

It'll be trial and error for a while until you get to know your routine at work and also fitting in your pain meds. Do try to sit down at times. As you may be covered unde the DDA, you may be entitled to extra breaks. It'd worht investigiating. Oh I can't spell today!

    Hi St Lucia,

Congrats on your new job, if there was less walking would you be enjoying it?
And yes please tell us what the job is? Is there anyone you swap the walking duty with? You definitely need to plan your meds wisely - do you get a chance to put your feet up (even briefly) at lunchtime?

Hooray! I survived on a mixture of a lot of codiene and tea!!!

I wore my walking boots as it was going to be muddy and that was a really good plan I think as I am sure they helped keep my ankles supported.

I am a teacher :-) Might as well be a tour guide - pointed out enough trees, dragonflies and beetles on our walk!

Tomorrow we are going out again (once in the morning and once in the afternoon)....this is going to be the end of me isn't it!!

Does anyone know if it might actually be good for my joints if I can manage it - in terms of strength building?

I am soooooooo relieved that I am over the flare up otherwise I wouldn't be going anywhere!

Thanks so much for your messages - they really encouraged me when I got home from work. I hope that you all had lovely days.

Thank you :-) I really feel a sense of achievement as I haven't taught since last Christmas due to being ill. I just really hope I can start these anti TNFs asap. Hurray for codiene, steroid injections, tea, this brilliant forum, and walking boots!!!

    Hi St Lucia,

I was advised recently in the value of walking poles, they are supposed to not only improve posture but help you breath better, spread the impact across your body and overall make you walk more efficiently which means less energy expelled over the same distance. If you are going on more walk about it might be worth trying to borrow a pair from someone. If nothing else you can use them for beating the undergrowth down with :-)

Well done on your first day back at the chalk face, I hope you don't have too much marking and prep to do so you get a good rest tonight.

Congratulations on the new job and well done on getting through the first day.

I've just started work as a teacher too. Finished teacher training in June this year and I'll be taking my first class as a proper teacher tomorrow. EKK  I'm just hoping a don't catch too many bugs this term.

Good luck with the new job going forward

Hi and snap I teach too...

Are these walks part of trips or are they weekly timetabled events?

Sounds like you coped - but sounds like you could do with a plan B ... would some one be able to swap classes with you if you were not up to walking. I'm sure a nature walk would be a good swap for a lot of teachers who weren't physically challenged ...

Congratulations on your new job St Lucia. I do hope all the walking is not going to set off your pain ....Teachers also tend to stand a lot don't they? I hope it all works out well,

Hey how did it go with your first class? Don't worry, things calm down and the first year is always the hardest :-) Are you primary or secondary?

    Hello,

Ooh what do you teach? Apart from children!

Yes these outings are timetables every day - we have to walk to do PE as well and that is everyday.

Today I managed my two walks....now I would like to curl up and die though!!!!

My poor intestines are getting hammered with codiene and it's not doing me good. Ughhhh.

How is your start to term?
