hi Elaine, just been reading your thread. Sound as if you've got a lot on your plate. Problem is, when you are going through it, everyone around you has a view on how to help. Quite often it doesn't fit with your own view of yourself. Well, that's how I see if for myself anyway.
Be strong and firm and only do something that is comfortable for you. Counselling can be very over-rated and only as good as the person you see. It's not the panacea for all ills and sometimes can make things worse. Trust your own judgement which will change when your circumstances change! That's my advice to you, for what it is worth!
With empathy

Hi Salamander
Well yes everyone has a view and if I put it on here I can only take on board their views cant I? Of course others see us differently as we see ourselves and what works for one wont for another...
I think my judgement is pretty spot on, i can percieve situations quite well...I knew never to let that surgeon in my local hospital take my kneecap out, he was fobbing me off and hoping i wouldnt question him cos he is a surgeon. My sister works in the highlands for the NHS, she admits patients with learning difficulties, mental/physical issues to hospital and makes sure they get the treatment they deserve. She tells me however that consultants are terrible to negotiate with and are god like in thier actions, she says she deals with them as little as possible as they are so. She also says she would hate to be such a patient in a hospital becuase they are treated not rightly. She had one patient who did make noises, did slap his hands together but wasnt physically abusive and needed a short procedure....The staff and other patients were so convinced he was going to hit someone but he was stressed about being kept waiting around in a ward for 3 hours then the procedure not being done. I cant imagine how he fetl.

Hi Elaine
My MIL has had Horace, the tortoise ever since I have know her and that is 37 years. He is very knowing and much loved. He always gets the best food. In fact her fridge is mostly full of food for Horace and the two baby rabbits she took in some years ago as result of a domestic female and a wild male rabbit having some fun. She is 92 years old, I think they help to keep her going along with her birds and all her grand and great grand children.

Hi,
I trained as an RNMS {no such thing now} registered nurse for mentally subnormals...its RNLD now i think....learning difficulties.
But that is quite normal for those patients...make noises and slap their hands.....consultants and nurses in general hospitals should have a lot more training with these kind of patients....
I loved my job. Even as a student when I was in the center of Newcastle with .... 3 patients, myself {student} and 2 nursing assistants....we decided to take them for lunch early {it was packed...almost Christmas}
We went into Littlewoods....everything went OK and on the way out we were coming out in a line and had our patients in front of us.....there was a lady having a sandwich and as we passed her my patient looked at her, grabbed her sandwich, and stuffed it into his mouth with both hands It wasnt funny at the time....the poor woman was in a state of shock
Anyway...I shouldnt high jack your post.....good luck with your form filling in [I hate those} and your interview
Love
