Went tothe GP this morning....I was just on paracetamol and diclofenic slow release at night. That was OK when my hip[ replacement was due today but now I have to wait for a back specialist {goodness knows how long} I wanted something to top up the paracetamol if I needed it. Very busy day or just very painful days.....not every day.
GP said that I was on 75mg of diclofenic at night and he thought 75 during the day as well would work well.
I asked was that not too much??? he said you always say that....No Top dosage is 150 which is what you'll be taking.
I then said ...stop the paracetamol......NO
Anyone else on the full doseage of diclofenic?
He also said anti inflams work better if they are taken regulary not just as needed Help please

Love
Hileena

I only wish I was Hileena! I was stopped from taking 150 mgs by my GP three years ago. She believes that they increase BP, and work against the meds for that. Boy, have I missed them.

I still have a secret stash, and when things get bad, I do take them for a few days, and the difference is amazing.

Hope they work as well for you.........Ange.x.

I think the anti-inflammatories do need to be a constant drip, drip drip with people like us. Mr DD, who has the occasional flare of gout, takes diclo for a few days to sort that, and it does, but for us it should be a steady thing. My naproxen are 2x500mgs per day, so that is 1000. Can't say I notice any difference to my joints but they do give me lovely oral thrush. As to painkillers, well hopefully if the diclo works you will need less, but as paracetamol don't have the clout for me I can't say much. Unusual that! DD

    Hi Thanks for the info
    I'll give them a try {when I get them} :lol: After giving them some time and making sure they dont make me "dozy" more than usual :lol: ( Not safe to drive....Dihydrocodeine did that to me}
I'll try reducing the paracetamol and take when needed.

I took 150 mg diclofenic and 2,000 to 4,000 mg paracetomol when RA was at its worse so you should be OK.

Getting by on much less now along with MTX.

    Hope this helps

    OK DD

Like Ange, I was taken of anti inflams because of kidney probs, I never got to maximum dose, I don't half miss them.
You do have to take them regular, I really do hope they work for you.

    Hi Hileena

I take 150mg Diclofenac daily, and I tried cutting out one dose as I also have high BP, but I felt the difference within a few days, ie more pain and swelling, so I went back up to the original dose.

I'm seeing my doc soon though, as my BP has continued to increase, even with medication.

I am on mtx, and also have co-codamol, paracetamol and tramadol and work out a pain regime for myself which can change daily, as per instructions from my GP. I guess she trusts me to understand what I can/can't take and the maximum dosage.

I guess we have to rely on our doctor's advice, and hope that we have got a good 'un!

    Hi Hileena,

I have been taking them at 150 for years as slow release once a day and before that for years as ordinary..... My bones do well on them but you have to just keep an eye on the digestive side and they say bp.

I used to take them weather I was inflamed or not cus they have a residue kinda thing as well as instant but now without them even for a day or two ( I often have digestive problems and they tell me to leave them out for as long as I can) i get huge build up of fluid in the joints and soft tissues.

I hop they have given you some kind pump inhibitr though to take along side them? ((( ))Cris xx

    Hi Hileena

I took 2 X 75 mg slow release Diclo for many years and they certainly helped me where most of the other anti-inflammatories didn't.

Started taking that dose again recently but got bad heartburn so went back to just 1 tab in the evening. But I am also taking quite a lot of prednisolone so the Diclo may not have been solely responsible for the heartburn.

Your GP can also prescribe a stomach protecting drug like Lanzoprazole to minimise gastric effects from the Diclo so might be worth asking about this.

In terms of taking them regularly - I do at the moment but I have also used them successfully on and "as and when needed" basis.

Hope the higher dose helps you Hileena.

    Love TIlly xx

I was going to start taking the extra one tomorrow morning but then I have a 44 mile drive....22 miles there and then back on Sunday morning and I dont want them to affect me.
I think I'll take the first one Sun morning and then Sun night and see how it goes...It wont kill me for another day to stay on the 75mg at night and paracetamol during the day.

    Hi Hileena :D

I was on diclofenic some years ago but had problems stomach wise with taking them.

hope that the increased dose does help you flower and that they and the paracetamol keep the pain and inflammation at bay.

if they don't then please don't put up with continuous pain ..... there are so many other analgesics that the doc can give you. :? :!:

    Hi there,

I was on two 75g of diclofenac a day before the other drugs kicked in, plus the paracetamol and still take them when I feel a flare coming on. I agree with the others though you should have a stomach protector too if you are going to take NSAIDs for any length of time. Hope they keep you going.

    Hi Everyone
Well I've only been on the extra diclofenic for 3 days now but definately today I can feel a difference....still on the paracetamol...although GP said stay on the full dose I'm going to try and wean myself off them but I'll give this time to get into my system.
Looks like its working.....tday I have felt yuckkkyyyy and have been runningto the loo all afternoon :( I know ...too much information  but I think we can blame out meds for everything. I refuse to blame the extra tab for this.
I'll check with the GP about another tab to line my stomach.

Hi Hileena, definitely see GP re stomach protector. Diarrohea is listed as a side effect for diclofenic - so is it doesn't improve raise this with GP, pharmacist too.

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Hileena
I have taken the 75mg slow release twice a day for a long time also take the paracetamol too!

They do help the pain but do try to get the lanzaprozole prescribed too!
    Good \luck with it!

(hope you dont mind me asking on your post Hileena)
I see someone said they were able to drop the dose when they went onto methx.......is that generally the case does anyone know?

    Hi Hileena :D

Despite the running to the loo... do you feel the diclo is helping to reduce the inflammation? I do hope so.

CB.. I don't know if there is any automatic reduction in Diclo if you start Mtx. They have very different actions, Mtx is a DMARD (disease modifier) and the Diclo is a NSAID. (anti inflammatory) but I suppose if the MTx is working then it might then reduce the need to take an anti-inflam???? I don't know, but maybe someone else will come along who does know!.

Thanks Iris :) yes I know they are different I asked because Williamlargs had mentioned a difference, and the consultant had said she may change the sulfa to mtx...so I just wondered if mtx was better for the pain as I don,t find sulfa really changes that for me!

Interesting that Angel stopped because of BP as I have fallen prey to that too!

What would we do without all this knowledge on here!

    :)

    Hi
I hjave rung the doc and he says yes it could be coincidence but if it happened just after taking a new med it seems likely that its the med.
His suggestion is that he send a prescription up to the chemist for me to collect {stomach liner} I assume thats the sort of thing you are talking about. He suggests I stop the 75 during the day for about a week, start taking this other med and then re start the 75 during the day and see how that goes.

That's good that your doc is going to give you something to line your stomach..... now if only he'd thought of that in the first place :D

hope it won't be long until it all settles and you're able to get the full benefit from the dicolos.

any word about a back doc appointment yet? or did I miss that
