Hi Alan

There was something on here last week about the swine flu jab and the flu jab being combined this year. Cant remember who but they said they had read about it. Some people were saying they didnt like the idea. Have a look around, hope you find it.

Regards
Trisha

I think this year's flu jab has four strains within it, including swine. I had mine on Wednesday, and I am absolutely fine. No swelling, no reaction, feeling OK.

Any points on your licence yet, alanmancunian? :D DD

I c an't be a*sed with any of them as the flu vaccine is only as good as the last years virus anyway, and seeming viruses mutate at such fast rates I can't justify being jabbed for bugger all reward!, and anyway me immune system get a regular kick from the bugs we get from the school thanks to our nipper well that and the two dogs we have living with us, I'm not sure they really do that much good generally anyway, the pig flu jab is now being linked with other problems post panic.

    Hi alanmancunian

My understanding is that the swine flu vaccine is included in this year's seasonal flu jab - to stop those of us who don't want the swine flu vaccine (ie me!) from being able to refuse it without refusing the seasonal flu jab as well. When I had my flu jab a week ago, I checked with the nurse and she said there was "a bit of swine flu in it this year" but clearly it was a secret cos she wouldn't have told me if I hadn't asked.

Not sure whether this is different if you had the swine flu vaccine last year (ie, if you need another dose this year) but certainly the nurse didn't ask me if I'd had it or not.

As I ranted in my previous post a couple of weeks ago, I feel VERY strongly about this and feel that people should have the choice but, hey, they have got to use up all that leftover vaccine they have paid for somehow haven't they?

Apologies for ranting. Hobby horse now firmly shut back in cupboard under the stairs.

I've got mine tomorrow morning, will be interesting....never had any problems with the seasonal flu jab, but the extra one wiped me out for about three days last year. Wasn't going to have it this year, but apparently no choice now!

Have had the seasonal flu jab for about 12 years now, have had flu twice in that time, but beforehand was getting it two/three times a winter.....and I mean FLU.......the can't-get-out-of-bed, think-I'm-dying, hurt-all-over type.

If I get it again I will have to put the steroid dose up to ridiculous heights again and will find myself back to where I was at the beginning of the year........and I can't be doing with that any more........

    Not had mine yet.

Has anyone one had the Phneumonia jab? I had one several years ago. Well the nurse said it lasted 5 years.

Another nurse told me it last until you jump off the planet.

Then the other nurse said it lasted for ten years

Anyone else been told about it?

I had the Pneumonia jab last year, Trish, and was told it was the only one I would need. Hubby had one same time. It was the first question the new surgery asked me - had I had one - so they either think it's important or they are getting paid a commission!

Hello everyone, When I booked my appointment I asked the receptionist and she said they were adding it, I said I had a bad reaction last year so she got the nurse to ring me, she said they will have jabs with and without so I have to tell them when I get there. I thought my bad reaction w3as due to the meds but nurse said she had a reaction as well so at least I know it's not just me. Hope this might help some of you.

I'm not having the flu jab this year. Last year my immune system was sent into overdrive from it and quite frankly I don't think I could have been any more ill if I'd had swine flu itself! I haven't been called up this year as a result. My understanding though is that I'm a rare case so please don't worry.

Got mine on Monday..hope it does not wipe me out have a school trip on Wednesday. I must ask about the Phneumonia jab my dad keeps saying i should have it done with my one side of my lung not working properly due to being baked a little during rads and the asthma.
Why is it that some people have to pay for the jab and others not???/ It is not an expensive med and surely in the long run it would save them money (ie people not off work, condition leading onto hospital stays etc)????

Hi lupin15, as I understand it those that qualify for free flu jabs include pensioners and those with immune system issues. If you are fit and healthy and not a pensioner you have to buy your own if you want one. I keep trying to persuade Mr DD to have one, he says he doesn't need one, but it is me that nurses him for about ten days every January or February when he gets the flu. Prat. DD

Sounds about right, men do have there ways!!!!. I have asthma and had cancer so that is why i am on the list for free. I tried to get my hubby to have one as it puts me at risk...but he won't. Upto now he has been OK.

I think you should put in a request at your surgery now, making sure that they understand that your immune system is shortly to be compromised, thus putting you in a higher risk category. DD

Had mine yesterday plus the pneumonia - one in each arm. Injection sites are quite tender, bit swollen too and I must admit that my joints, especially my arms and hands, are all quite sore this morning - whether that's a reaction to the jabs or just a bad day I'm not sure.

Annie - hope you are ok following your flu jab, further to your comments about the swine flu jab last year.

Interestingly (?!) I had, what the GP said was a flu jab reaction, for the first time ever this year - 4 days after the jab and I was really quite poorly - only for a few hours but still.. Never had a problem before so reckon it was the swine/Avian flu bit wot done it. Hmmmm,

Re the pneumo jab, I was told recently that, if you are immunosuppressed, the guidance has now been revised and you need it every 3 years.

Hope everyone else is ok after their flu jabs!

Thanks for asking Tilly, I am much to my old self again today. :D Took some paracetamol before bed and had a better nights sleep because the injection sites and upper joints weren't quite as tender.

    Hope you're okay today :D

Luv Legs who's all innoculated :D

PS I was told my pneumonia jab would last me a lifetime now ......does that mean I've only got 3 years to live?

Well the deed is done. Didn't even know she had given me the injection. Apparently the flue jab this year is a combination which includes swine flue from last year and a couple of others.....First year i have managed to get the jab done before getting a chest infection Hooray. Lets hope that is a good start and it may continue. Yepppeee

Had mine Saturday (so did hubby). No problems or side effects so far for either of us. Not even a sore arm!
