Knowing that the weather was going to be nice today, I promised myself a trip to Mersea, to look at the water, the boats, the house I would to live in and to have lunch out. It is one of my favourite places to be, and I thought it would be appropriate for airwave's challenge. I got ready, went down to my car which sits on our little drive at the back of the house only to find a removal van, parked right across it. Someone from the houses at the back of ours is moving today. They have a lovely day for it, which I am sure they are pleased about. The removal men said they should be finished by 2, was that OK? NO IT ******* IS NOT. I start work at three.

I am sure this will please one or two! DD

Aww, DD that sucks. Surely they should move out the way for you get out though. Did they refuse to move? Make up a white lie and tell them you've got a hospital appointment of something and tell them to move. Why should you stay in on such a lovely day!

    Hi DD
Sounds like the Law of ****!!! What a shame when you wanted to take advantage of the sunny weather etc... Is there anywhere you could go for a walk to so you don`t miss the sun before work? Not quite the same I know!!

DD I think they should move the van also. They have no right blocking you in. You don't need an excuse . It wouldn't take 2 mins.

I am so sorry that they have spoilt your day.

Can't understand why they won't move it ..........what if it was an emergency and you needed to get out in a hurry? Surely they shouldn't be blocking anyone's drive :?

One of the joys of urban living, where the majority of the houses were built pre the era of the motor car, is that many do not have drives. On-street parking is the only option. We only have a small drive at the expense of losing part of the bottom of the garden, and being granted a right of access by the neighbours (pre-history to us, but I do reverse over the bottom of their garden too, if they still owned that part!) As a result, many people around here park on the street, and this area is popular too for commuters, ie they park up and either walk into town or catch a bus.

The removal van has no-where else to go. The street at the back is solid with both residents' and commuters' cars and commercial vans belonging to the dive business on that road. The men are having to lump furniture etc six doors up from where they are parked. A hospital appointment would have been OK, they would have paid for a taxi, but that doesn't apply for a jolly for DD.

The people who are moving have just knocked on my front door, not apologising for blocking the drive but to complain at me for having a go at their removal men! Apparently they could not work out who the drive belonged to. In response I said that I was used to having the drive blocked, I would not have minded if they had asked first, 'cos then I could have moved my car so I could go out, and that, in addition, I am thankful that I am only physically disabled, not mentally disabled like them. They goggled at me: I pointed out that the drive was at the bottom of the third garden up from the start of the terrace, ergo, it is perfectly possible to walk round to the front of the terrace and knock on the door of the house three gardens up.

    FUMING AGAIN. k010.gif

In true DD style tho, a plan has been hatched. And it's a good'un!

You really do have to wonder don't you? Surely they could just have moved the van to allow you out and then back in again later?

So come on then, let us in on your cunning plan - I'm intrigued....

The van has gone. Hoo-bloody-rah. Work in 20 minutes. Hoo-bloody-rah. The plan was simple, but my basic good nature let me down. I could not effect it and am now seething at my own feeeble nature. Tilly will understand.

Thank you, one and all, for your lovely messages of support. And especial thanks to juliepf, who, you may all like to know, is a total babe! DD

The new neighbours are moving in on Wednesday, so I will remove the car from the drive on Tuesday as I have the hospital first thing on Wed. Flaming meth malarkey. It's not their fault, anyway! Now I am calming down I realise it's not really the ex-neighbours fault either: they could have asked me to move my car, they SHOULD have asked, perhaps, then no problem. I guess that when one is moving the stress of that banishes all rational thought from the brain. When we move we will bring one of the major routes into town to a halt. Single track road, lots of buses going up and down the hill and our large removal van parked on one side. Ha! I will spend that day cringing with embarrassment. Or hide at the new house.

It will be dull, and possibly raining. Today was beautiful, so bright and sunny. Not that warm, but a brilliantly blue sky. Never mind, the temerity of the idea that I should be able to do what I want, when I want. How very dare I! c020.gif Is that petulant enough?! DD

Sorry, can't think of anything Pollyanna-ish to say in response to that DD.

So, instead, here is a weather related quote from the wonderfully morose "Eeyore's Little Book of Gloom":

"It's snowing still" said Eeyore gloomily."

    "So it is."

    "And freezing."

    "Is it?"

"Yes" siad Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately."

    Hi Lindalegs and Juliepf

The Keith Lemmon bit relates to Toni's post on Airwaves "smile" thread.

I wasn't sure either but if you google "keith lemmon" and see his picture, I think you will recognise him....
