You'll find it easier than you think Maria, promise. :) I had both done 27 years ago and when the stitches were out after a week, tubigrip on the wrists allowed me no end of movement.

Good luck and keep flexing your fingers post op.

Wishing you all the best Maria for your op. They are doing both wrists at the same time? A friend of mine had that op in one wrist - she was delighted with the results. Sounds like you are getting organised and great that your Mum can come and stop.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Maria :D

It's good you're having your double op so soon.... you'll hopefully be feeling back to normal well before Xmas !

I've not had experience of this op or managing without both hands at the same time. have got tips for one -handed if you think that'll be of any use?

perhaps others will come along who know more about having the carpal tunnel ops... and how they managed.. and for how long!

    good luck with it Maria!

will be with you in your pocket on the 15th.

    Not long to go now
    wish it was all over
my only fear is either wanting the toilet in the middle of my op or wanting to sneeze causing the consultant to slip!
I will have 2 surgeons working on either hand at the same time
    should be fun :!:

    Hi maria

I had a op on my stump a few months ago under a LA (i am an amputee with RA) and all i could think about before i went to theatre was exactly the same, What if I need the loo. Especially as you don't know an exact time of going down.
I didn't drink hardly anything just to make sure, which is rather silly i know.

When I came back to the ward, cause it was LA i was offered tea and sandwich, I drank like a fish knowing that it was over and i could go to the loo at anytime, It was also good cause after a couple of hours I was home.

Are you having a local or general, If you are having a local a nurse is at your side all the time, talking to you. I told her all my life story just about, Bet she was glad when surgry was finished

Try not to worry, I know its hard but you wil be fine

Take care I hope I haven't yabbled on too much

Thank you everyone for your good luck messages & support
Answer to the loo situation large freezer bags elastic bands & baby wipes!
Im feeling pretty relaxed but I think its coz I work at the hospital where Im having op & I picked the surgeon as hes a hand specialist
I will be in day surgery unit where I dont know many of the staff so I wont be too embarassed if I make a fool of myself!
Hopefully I will be home abt 5 if everything goes ok
Once the numbness wears off I should be able to post
I will take it a day at a time
    Thank you all once again

Hi, I had one wrist done last year and it has made a lot of difference less pain, more control in my fingers and no tingling in the middle of the night! YOu sound so organized with the plastic bags! I only thought of them when I paniced as wanted to shower! When I had mine done the nurse that took me to the theatre, also made sure she took me to the loo first, which was a good thing. The op itself was pain free, just sore when they gave me the injection, like the dentist, but not so bad as you don't have to keep your mouth open! I didn't think about sneezing, so it didn't worry me and although my hand was a bit sore in the evening and night after the op it settled and I was fine. Glad you have your Mum to look after you, I'm sure she will be a big help.
Good luck, and I hope you'll have a quick recovery.

Thinking of you today Maria, by the time you read this you will be home and on the road to recovery. Re plastic bags, elastic bands etc .. amazing how resourceful we have to be post op isn't it ... gives us something to fill our recovery time with!!
