What a relief del, no serious damage has been done, I am pleased about that - as are you, I expect! Why do you need a golf ball? Je suis curious. DD

Hi Del, 7 15 appointments?! I reckon that is so you don't put off the other physio patients who might run when they see you exiting your sessions ... Hope the exercises work.

Golf ball exercise to work on the trigger points should help, have heard a lacrosse ball is recommended ... but don't really no where you would get one of those from. Placing the ball in a sock can help you get it in the right place without becoming a contortionist.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Morning del, I hope all is going well with the appointment. speedy is a fount of wisdom when it comes to ideas and gadgets to help one, I am glad the sock helped. I hope that you are feeling much better, that your shoulder is improving and that you are back on the enbrel (especially if it helps you). DD

Do what you can del, that's the only way. If you cannot manage the number of repetitions they want then do them in two lots or summat. Just don't overdo things, that's all. I am glad the enbrel has helped and I hope the bugs have truly buggared off. DD

I hope the tape works - is it meant to stay in place over the next two weeks or has it peeled off already? I remember having my knee taped, back in the good old days when it was only the one knee, it was supposed to last for about a week but by day 2 was unravelling all by itself! It was nice while it lasted, though. I like your mummy! Are you still doing the ball-in-the-sock thing? DD

Ooooh, the mind boggles, well mine does. I have found a suitable smiley! What about one of those elastic back brace things, if the posture doesn't return? Not sexy, I know, but it might help. DD

Hi Del, hope that you are doing ok matey... My physio used to tape my back up from the shoulders all the way to the top of mi bum, it really helped but the tape doesn't stay on too long, she gave me some to take home so I could get swmbo to put more in the same places...

    Best wishes Del

Oh dear del, why not? How long did the tape last - hopefully longer than half an hour! I wish you well for the morrow, please let us know how it goes. DD

    Hi Del,

my physio up to now has always been in blocks of 6 sessions. However when discharging me they always remind me that I can refer. Over the course of the last year I have had 4 blocks of physio - one pre-op and three post op.

Hope it continues to help, you can't rush muscles/soft tissue ....

So all is not quite lost, then. Keep up with the exercises, stop lifting the kettle for the time being (make hot drinks in the microwave instead) and let's hope that, if you have it, the injection does the trick (steroid I take it, yes?) Look after yourself, del, and you WILL be back on the bike. DD

That's a big no no tj, laces are needed to bring the sides of the shoe in to support the foot.

I'll have to try them in other shoes also and see if they work in those too.

They might not quite fit, Del and that might make a difference. If so ask for another pair. It'll hardly bankrupt the health service.

You’re absolutely right about not just wearing one pair. Even with the surgical shoes I’ve been in for about 30 years, it’s very important to alternate. It’s hard because you always have one pair that’s more comfortable but the only way to keep shoes, feet, ankles and everything above them in half-decent working order is to wear strong supportive shoes/insoles and keep swapping them. ‘Well worn in’ sounds a no-no, Tony and slip on definitely is. As Del says, you need laces (ideally) or, if you can’t manage laces, at least velchro. It’ll help those aching knees of yours.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

 but they're so comfy
I will consider myself chastised.. Lol
Yep, laces are out I'm afraid. These ones actually do have an adjustable velcro strap but im ashamed to say it's in the exact same spot it was in when I bought them.. Maybe I should try tightening it? I just have little strength in the hands these days
    I promise I will try though :D thanks mum & dad :wink::D

Nah then son. Let's be 'avin' a bit less o' that lip or there'll be no pocket money for you for a month.

I can't do velcro straps either so I've had them punch a hole in the end of each strap and Mr SW (Dad to you, young tjt) fixed a hook onto an old wooden coathanger so I can hook it through the hole & pull it on tight. I have to confess, it's still better - and quicker - to just ask him to do them up but it's OK for general use and it helps to preserve (a)my independence and (b)our marriage. If I'm doing any serious walking (1/2 mile these days) I turn to him.
