I did my meth!

I went to the hospital for the meth stabbing as per usual, but further from my discussions with the consultant on Monday I am being trained up to do my own. I used to do the enbrel injections, which were straightforward, so today I went thro the procedure for meth (different to the humira) and it was absolutely fine. They will equip me with a different sharps box, gloves and off we go! I hope this will start in the New Year, so I shall do the next two weeks myself, to really build the confidence. It wasn't too hard, tho! I feel ridiculously pleased with myself - . DD

Hi DD,
Injecting other things or people is easy but sticking it in your self isn't so easy so no wonder your feeling pleased and well done.

Hi DD,
Well done you! I'm not a big fan of needles but It will make things so much easier for you, far less hassle than weekly trips.

Oh skezier, I couldn't, COULDN'T do it to anyone else. I shall do it again at the hospital for the next two appointments then, hopefully, it's 'Hello convenience!'. Bedtimes on Wednesdays will be exciting. Not. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Oh DD my last real job involved putting needles (well venflons actually) in people lots of times.... tis easy when you know how....
I can im and sub cut dogs, horses, pigs (you do them in the ear) cats, sheep and cows and used to iv ventflons several times a week...
i m available to jab anyone.... Oh can do my self as well Shame i can;'t do a diy midline Now we might be able to make one with fish tank tubing ((( ))) Cris xx0 -
Ventflons - those things in the back of the hand? They make my stomach turn over. We have a wonderful rheumatology nurse called Anna - she is an absolute whizz at doing them, one never feels a thing but others? They scrape and dig and prod and . . . . .ugh. You, on the other hand, I bet you'd be a good'un at such matters. Why do you ventflon a pig in its ears? Is it so they can't tug it out or summat? Intrigued, that's what I am. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hey DD you jab a pig in its ear I only venfloned humans and often they were not able to feel a thing at the time..... I never had a complaint cus I used to get it first time.... I missed that job so much I started injecting animals
You use pigs ears purely cus you cant see the veins and in their ears you can...... get it wrong and iv them they very well will die..... well you did ask.... Cris who is toning down LW again   xx0 -
Hooray! Well done DD! xxx0

I asked 'cos I wanted to know - thank you, skezier! I wish I could see my blood lines - I have two smashing bruises, one from H and one from M (no, not H&M, that would be odd!) just 'cos I hit capilleries. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
stlucia - thank you. It was just a matter of getting my confidence back - I have humira pens and you can't see the needle, or how deep it goes . . . . . Nah, seriously, they are both OK to do.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi DD.
Well done you are good to be able to do it to yourself.
here's to your good needle days.

Oh heck DD
I do think all you self stabbers are so so brave, but as you say it will be so much more convenient for you to do them at home and save a journey.
Well done you x:D and I hope you soon feel confident with it all. Really hope you are feeling better than of late, and are having a relaxing evening. I leave some hugs and a large glass of red if you are allowed to bend rules!
take care, ((((( )))))

Good for you, DD, I know I couldn't do it!
Hope the Pred is kicking in and that you will be feeling ready for the Christmas jollities. I will - for the first time in years I've no cooking to do for two whole glorious days!
I was too under-the-weather to really enjoy last Christmas, this year I intend getting Brahms so that I don't care whether I am or not............

Hey DD - thought I would pop over to this forum and saw your name. Just wanted to say a big well done to you. Must be such a big thing - jabbing your self. I do Annie's but can't imagine having to do it to myself. Very impressed. Are you allowed to use Emla cream like Annie - the community nurse told me she found it made a difference to the needle pain - apparently she was part of the trials at Great Ormand Street. I have also started using an ice pack for Annie because the evil mtx makes her leg sting and according to my 6 year old it helps. Hope you don't mind me butting in on this forum but thought I would put my two penneth in.0

Hi anniesmum, it's lovely to see you on here! I manage without anything - honestly, one small prick and it's over (now where have I heard that before? ) plus I am an old woman and can cope - it is a very, very different thing for your little girl: hats' off to you for injecting your daughter, as I said elsewhere here I really don't think I could inject anyone else, obviously if push-came-to-shove with Mr DD and I would be saving his life then no big deal but otherwise? Nah. Couldn't. I hope Annie is having a better time of things. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Thats really great news DD! well done
you wont look back once you can do your injections at home, it makes life that little bit easier and gives you a bit more control. The company that deliver my drugs are fantastic 2.
I'm so pleased for you.

Well done DD, glad you won't have all the hassle of hospital visits to get your weekly mtx.
I'm starting on injected mtx tomorrow, as I have had nasty bouts of the 'bog trot' (sorry) when my dosage was increased.
I hope I cope as well as you have; I should think so, as injections/drawing blood doesn't bother me.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the bad weather forecast for tomorrow doesn't arrive though, just to mess up my plans. x:roll:0 -
Hey DD well done ) )
I used to manage to do mine, but failed on that score and now choose to let my practice nurse have the honours (she positively loves jabbing folks ) but I certainly admire you for having the guts to do it yourself.
Oh, don't be surprised if you come away with more than the syringes and sharps box. if you are a really good girl you'll get a big fat 'spill kit' for those messy moments when you decorate yourself and the room with the MTX. Mine has been languishing at the bottom of the bag I take to the surgery all this time and never been called upon
well done & so pleased for you (apart from the bruises that is)
hugs

Well done DD ..

Ooooh wonky, I am getting lots of lovely kit. I have to buy a clip 'n store type Tupperware box for the little blighters, a special sharps box (my humira one doesn't cut the mustard, apparently) and some proper snap-on-and-wriggle-your-fingers-nursey-type gloves. Perhaps I should also dig out my old French maid's - no, sorry! wrong one! - nurse uniform and wear that - it might just fire up Mr DD again! Hee-hee! I have two stonking bruises on my belly today - I bring a whole new twist to the phrase 'sex goddess'. I know the needle has to go into the hilt so that should minimise spillage, I hope. I shall do it in the bathroom - I now have visions of this stuff 'melting' a hole in the enamel of the bath!
nanarose, it really is OK - it does take a little getting used to, I suppose, but you have a great advantage if needles don't fret/bother/concern you.
Thank you everyone else for your messages of support and encouragement. DD

I agree del, and the convenience of it will be wonderful. No more trogging up the hospital and sitting around waiting for people to get their ***** in gear: mine will be in gear on demand! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
