Thank you sooo much everyone for your support and good wishes and to Cris and DD for pigeon post duties. x
As Cris said things didn't turn out quite the way I expected yesterday.
The new consultant I saw Dr Gupta was just so sweet. She looked at my knees which are swollen like small footballs and checked other joints ... shoulders, elbows, neck, fingers which also all have synovitis and said I was having a bad flare.
She discussed the 3 mth rule (ie. that they don't aspirate/ inject joints within 3 months) with the ward sister and said that given how bad the knees are that she would be willing to drain and inject the worst knee and also give me an IM steroid to help with the other joints. Great!
She then listened to my lungs and announced I had a chest infection which meant she could not touch my knees for fear of septic joint. well.... I started blubbing like a baby... after the lack of sleep, wicked journey and the agony in my knees, I guess I just crumbled. x:oops:
The doc was so sympathetic (too much sympathy can be a bad thing when you're trying to stop blubbing! x:roll: ) and re-assured me that she would not 'abandon me'. The doc gave me prescription for Amoxycillin and went ahead with the intramuscular jab (which I was grateful for) ....and said she wants me back in her injection clinic next Wednesday when she will drain/ inject the right knee. (how caring is that?... especially as Dr Gupta is not my assigned consultant.)
The journey in and back to Gartnavel was excruciatingly painful and I was never so glad to get back home!
I've been resting a lot since and hoping to give the steroids the best chance at working. I had no idea I had a chest infection which I guess is the anti tnf's/ immune suppressants' ability at 'masking symptoms of infection' that they talk about in the literature. It explains though why I've been feeling so 'wished' as Cris and Toni would say.
thanks again folks... you are just wonderful. )
hope to be back soon.

Hi Iris
I got 'wished' from Cris!!
Lovely word and so expressive of that totally exhausted feeling.
I am so so so glad to see you on and posting )
What a lovely lady you saw and how right she was not to take risks with the steroids given the infection. It can be dangerous can't it?, but bless her little cotton socks for her doing what she did and the promise of more help[ next week.
Thanks to her I am SURE your Christmas will be way better than you were thinking.
Love Iris to you

No immune system = no symptoms = scary things happening and you don't know a damn thing about it. This sodding disease gets one down, I am so sorry my sweet girl but it is lovely to hear from you - I hope it hasn't taken too much out of you posting to us. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hello Iris
So glad that you were well looked after the other day - albeit quite a surprise about the chest infection..
Glad to hear that you are taking things easy and that you will be seen again on Wednesday..
Will be in touch again soon ..
(I've had a very stressful/hectic final few days, but all 'done and dusted' now - whew, wouldn't want to go through the last 2 weeks again!)

Hi Iris,
Just dropping in some (((((((((( )))))))))) and don't feel you have to answer if you look in. Some snow soaked dandelions and I managed to rescue a bit of half nibbled sheep birthday cake and that I paid dearly for
So hope you have a better day my friend. Love Cris xxxx0 -
Morning dorcas, let's do the bad stuff first then the good: I am fighting a sore throat and a cough that makes me sound like a sea-lion - have you sent me your germs for Christmas? If so I am NOT impressed. ) Whatever it is will go away in time - all things pass. I had to record Strictly last night, so I shall settle down later to catch up. I sincerely hope you are feeling a little better today on all fronts - chest, knees and general health, and that the snow ain't too bad. Thinking of you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Thinking of you.
Lots love Tilly xxx0 -
Oh Iris, sorry you have been having such a tough time. I know what you mean about kindness making it harder to hold it together. Sounds like you have a plan though, antibiotics to fight the chest infection - which your poor body was struggling against, the IM jab will hopefully take the edge of things and then another trip for your worst knee to be dealt with next week. Resting up sounds the best thing to be doing.
Take care,
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
I support Cris here no need to reply if you are not up to it, but able to peek in.
