Lol Julie - whats with this "pocket duty"?
I've seen a few comments about it but can't quite see where it comes from!
:???:0 -
Morning mike
pocket duty is where everyone (virtually) jumps into the pocket of a person who feels a little scared of going to their appointment or operation. It is a custom to bring a picnic too
The thought of all you people being in your pocket (often being roudy) gives you a little more courage.
Hope you are well today.
Take care

Morning Julie
I see now. Lol, can't really jump anywhere at the moment!
Happy to come along though - I'll bring a nice bottle of chilled wine and some smoked salmon sandwiches (no crusts!)0 -

Evening Julie
Just wanted to check you are all set for tomorrow?
And wish you Good Luck, of course!
Mike
PS I'll bring along a nice bottle of chardonnay - just be careful not to spill it in your pocket!![/color]0 -
Afternoon Mike, how's things with you today? Yes, I have Mr DD to hold my hand before and after but I am not the slightest bit worried about having surgery. I love it. It's meant to help and make things better, I am knocked out with lovely GA (they can forget eipdurals etc, I want the total darkness) which means I feel no pain for however long it takes and actually get, therefore, some decent rest, the GA hangs around for a while after which means I can top it up with trammies and still get some decent sleep, I adore surgery. Love it, love it, love it. I cannot wait. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

How did you get on today, Julie?

Hi mike
Not doing too bad thank you. My appointment went pretty well
I was ready with ammo this time, unlike last time when I was completely unaware of what was going to happen.
My first opp is going to be the c4 & c5 discs. They will take away c4 and rod or screw the other discs so that they fuse together eventually.
This will have to completely heal before he goes ahead with the odontoid opp. Could take 6months or more depending on my health.
The odontoid will be easier than he thought as c1 has fused its self to my skull. (am i clever or what did it for him )
He will then attach a plate to skull and a rod from there to c3. (phew complicated eh)
Any way he said be ready in 3 weeks and if i havent got an appointment in that time......chase it up.
Phew....bet you wish you had never asked
Hope you are well.
Take care

Hi Julie
Re: Phew....bet you wish you had never asked
Lol indeed!
The thing is, if it all goes well, how much better will you be? And how likely is it all to go well?
Almost every time I come on this board I'm amazed at how strong people are and I realise how lucky I am that my arthritis is so straight forward.
I really hope it all goes well for you Julie ..............

Likelyhood of it all going well my surgeon is confident.
As for being better......well I don't expect to be pain free around those areas....the op is important because if i didn't have it, it could either paralyize me cause the discs are touching the spinal cord or worst case, kill me. The odontoid peg is the same....I was told I would not survive whip lash.
Arthur took my leg 6 years ago,, I will learn to adapt again and make the best of a rubbish disease.
Mike...it will go well....don't worry

Lol, I won't if you don't Julie! :!:0 -
Julie has a tremendous spirit, Mike. She is a fighter and has a terrific sense of humour. She will get through this and with some style, of that I have no doubt. I have learned a great deal from both her and others on here. There are many wonderful people on this forum. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

So true DD. Don't want to make Julie blush but I had to show her post to my wife. We both felt humbled.
How are you doing, anyway?

Badly. Never mind, it will pass, all things do. I hope you are continuing to recover a-pace. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Re Badly. Never mind ......"
Sorry to hear that DD.
I'm actually quite good, thanks. Some pain from the wound but mostly now what I'd call muscle pain from not being active enough.
It's almost 6 weeks since my op and quite warm today, so I've decided that to wear my stockings today!
Hope the sun shines on us all today .....
