    Hi Mirabella,,
Totally understand where u coming from.. sometimes i meself wonder why do things happen to me ,, i not a bad person but things just keep slapping me in the face and yep i have to get straight back up... lol..
Some ppl say that what happens in our life is to test us and to make us a stronger person... I certainly stronger from the stuff i have been through,,, i not perfect i have days where like u i think why me???? earlier today i felt like chopping me ankles an feet off(not that i would) so frustrated with the pain.. but then i refocused had me tabs nice hot bath and started agin..
I'm a firm beleiver in positive thinking.. positive thoughts no matter how small can ignite somit in the brain that can change our whole perspective... not ev1 can think like this i know.. also another thing i do is to think of others less fortunate than myself.. there is always some1 out there who is in a worse off situation.. hope that doesn't sound like i just telling u to get on with it cause i am not... i am just on one of my positive thinking strategies...
I really hope u have some peace soon and i'm so sorry to hear of how things are at the moment..
    Thinking of u
    Take care

I am so sorry things are really crap at the moment for you....i do wish people would not promise things they are not going to carry through. On the other hand i am a great believer in things happen for a reason....(even though at the time it drives you mad). I am sure everything will drop into place and the person that promised you this cottage for life will get their comeuppance....You may not be around to see it but it will happen.
I am sure you will find a wonder place you will call your own and hope you find somewhere soon. I hope they soon sort out your problem and try not to worry about it until you know what is going on. I know that seems easier said then done but you are going to be busy with returning to work and house hunting.

    Huge hugs for you XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    Hi Mirabella

I'm so sorry that you are having a difficult time at the moment, and it must have been a huge shock for you to receive the bad news about the cottage as well as the arthritis-related problems.

You are right that life can be sh....t sometimes, and it often seems that the nicest people get more than their fair share of the bad stuff. But my experience is that life often seems to go in phases, and just when you think it can't get any worse, something happens to change things. This has happened to me on a few occasions, so I sincerely hope that will be the case for you too.

Oh dear, mirabella, landlords are never to be trusted. It's happened to me before and it was hell. The spoken word is never anyone's bond - hopefully you and your housemate can find another place between you. As for the arthritis, well, this is what it does to amuse itself, it spreads and wanders, sometimes creates new versions of itself just for the hell of it. I hope the new chap can offer something - are you seeing a rheumatologist? I hope things settle for you soon. DD

    Hi Mirabelle

What dreadful news all round. I am so sorry. I wonder if there is anything you can do about the cottage. I would take some advice from a solicitor or just refuse to leave!

Thanks so much you guys for your replies, have spent since Monday just in a daze and non stop crying, walking round my beautifull garden.I have always been a strong woman, but the thought of losing my home has somehow just cut my heart out.Walked my girls last night into the famous blue bell woods, which is literaly within 50' away from my front gate,it was awesome,a beautifull moonlit night, crisp with frost,so pretty, the river was high, and had broken it's bank in some places. My dogs enjoyed paddling through the water.God how I will miss this place!! There will be nothing to replace it.
I now have begun to get bitter and very, very angry, with life and all that controls it.Where does one go from here :?: Mirabella

That is terrible hun, is there nothing that can be done? You should try one of these solicitors that give an hours free consultation, if they still do that these days....

My heart goes out to you.....

It sounds like such a lovely place..

Hello mirabella, how are things today? Tink has made some valid points but the crux of the matter is it isn't your home, in the sense that you do not own it. It belongs to your landlord and he can do with it as he sees fit. What sort of tenancy agreement do you have? There must be something in it about notice to vacate etc, surely. DD

    Hi DD,
sorry not replied earlier but had to take myself out today, and almost ran over some bimbo with a clip board in her hands as I reversed out of driveway just not used to seeing people in the lane I think she dropped her camera as well, but I did not stop to see.I will probobly now get a warning from 'SOME AUTHORITY' for dangerous driving!!! Well sorry but don't give a stuff.I have now said that anyone concerned with my cottage(that was) will have to make appointment with me in my time if they wish to enter or otherwise.
I have read all the posts with interest and I know that some people have mentioned solicitors, but the law states in my case that as the cottage is agricultoral that I am only legally allowed 2 months notice unless I have a working livestock value, basically means that cottage belongs to working farm.It doesn't!! I also have no written agreement either, just paid my rent to the landlord,no official rent book, just bought a little carbon copy book, years ago when I moved in.So legally do not have leg or anything else to stand on.I can make it difficult and refuse to go but at the end of the day where would it get me!!!!! I do believe that after 14yrs you can aquire squatters rights???? but not sure about that?
My joints have now started to hurt more than ever but feel that is down to stress, and have lost some weight too,not a bad thing either.
I am also being so horrible to Keith who shares this place with me,and has looked after me during my bad times,he so devastated about leaving too,but somehow can't control my anger and he is the nearest thing to hand.Hence I am here on my PC typing to whoever wants to read, just to give myself someone to talk to and him a bit of peace and space.
My daughter wants me now to move to Manchester, well SALE really, just outside of,it is her house and it's empty, mine for the having,so from country to the suberbs I will maybe have to consider,do any of you people on this forum live around that area?? You DD,know lots of them on here, maybe you could get some info and pass it on,would be gratefull.

It may not be the roof that you want, but it is a roof. Don't round on Keith, this is not his fault and he does not deserve that. Don't round on yourself either, it won't do you any good. It does sound as tho you do not have a legal leg upon which to stand and so paradise may well be lost: it won't be regained in Sale but at least you have somewhere to go. I am not an expert on these or any other matters, but to live somewhere for so long with no formal tenancy agreement is surely foolhardy. The cottage may not belong to a farm/be agricultural now, but perhaps it used to and the records have not been amended. Private landlords are prone to doing this type of thing, simply because they can - your good will and innocence has been abused and there is very, very little that you can do. I think I am right in saying that squatters rights won't apply as you have been paying rent.

It is a horrible thing to have happen - I know it all too well. Whatever you rent it is not yours and if you are not under any formal agreement it makes you very vulnerable. I have to go and cook, sorry. Go and howl at the moon, I shall dig around and see what I can find out (I know someone who works in social housing, he may have an idea or two.) DD

Dear DD, I do so realise that you are right, and I guess that sooner or later my bubble would burst,my life was too good to be true, good job that I loved,a younger man who is willing to put up with me,a beautifull place to live, everything that most people dream of,running and jogging around the country lanes with my dogs, fit as you like, now all taken away  I am so scared of cracking up totally that my bad side (if I can call it that) just seems to take over,I can't seem to find a bit in between, does that make sense. As I type here Keith is making me my favourite salad, after I have screamed at him for something so stupid, like leaving the security lights on :?: I hate the fact the this athritus stuff is starting to dominate me,I have an enemy within that I can't deal with, and I find that so hard to deal with too,how do you people out there cope with this crap?
Manchester :!: guess like you said it's a roof,my local council have said no chance as I have already been renting privatly, move on to another :?: If I had 3 kids at school no worries,on your own,no chance, much harder these days .Thanks so much for sharing my life as it is,so good to just chat to someone out of my box  Mirabella

Sorry Mirabella, I am tired and not that well at the moment: I have left a message with my social housing guy - he knows his stuff and I am sure will be able to come thro with some advice/help, oh hell, I dunno but I hope he can. I know I was a little unhelpful earlier, and I apologise. Spotting the good things/the brighter side isn't always possible when one is in the midst of the mire, I do know that and the heartbreak must be immense. (I may be too strong sometimes but I am not a totally insensitive clod.) I hope I can find some information that can help. I won't say sleep well, 'cos I guess you won't. For whatever good it does, I am thinking of you. DD

Hi Mirabella, I am so sorry to read your post it must be terrible to find yourself in this postion, I thought agricultural houses where bad to sell because of the rules about having to keep it agricultural , i thought you could only buy or let them if you worked on the land or kept the house something to do with agricultural.
There are a few around here that still have the agricultural ties. i would ask a solicitor where you stand .As for your temper it is probably keeping you going at the moment so its not a bad thing . The trouble is when you let go you will feel horrible and probably you arthritis will go mad . Hope you can sort it out it is a horrible way to start the year. ...............jilly

Hi hope you are feeling not too bad today. My hubby said if you have paid for or put in cupboards etc he said pull them out and sell them. He said if you have paid for the work to be done and it was not in the cottage to start just take it. He also said that if they come in to take photo graphs tell them that the items are not staying. If they ask to show people around agree but make sure the house is i a state and cook fish/curry and leave some in a bin...makes an awful smell.......not sure what you would achieve but might make you feel better. Could you not borrow a cow/goat or something and put it in your back garden????

Getting a mortgage with a sitting tenant is an impossibility because a sitting tenant might not leave the property.I expect the buyers paid cash but as they didn't view the inside of the property I am guessing they have further plans, maybe to knock it down and rebuild or maybe build a lot of houses. That could impact on your community and they will not be very happy either.
As you have been a good tenant for 14 yaers and have paid rent for all of this time then 2 months notice is not fair. I am sure you will have more rights than this.
If you improved the property in good faith then hopefully you have some proof of the increase in the value of the property you have contributed too. I would definately remove everything you paid for.Your landlord/landlady has shown no concern for your wellbeing so don't worry about them. They have sold the property under your feet without the courtesy of informing you.
Finally surely the council would have to re- house you as you are being made homeless. They say you're not entitled to put people off. You might not have to leave this property until they rehouse you,
I will be following this thread closely,
    Elizabeth x

Oh my word you guys are so good,I have posted several replies but can't see them :?: think maybe we have crossed lines or space, however,in reply to Lupin, the country will be a sweet revenge on its own,the disgusting smell of the slurry on the fields behind the garden, when the river floods they will need a boat or wetsiuts. The rabbits eat all your plants, the moles dig up he lawn, the hornets nest where you don't want them too as do the wasps and bees and the mice have parties all the time :lol:
No one would get mortgage on these proporties it has to be a cash buyer,I understand in excess of 1/2 million :!: Also they are under the scrunity of the English Heritage as these are very rare and very historical. They cannot pull them down or rebuild anything new, even extentions would be frowned upon.So some one must want these very badly, rumour has it,it could be an Actress :!: Mirabella
