I've recently bought Dr Martens shoes. They're far from dainty as they're men's but I can get away with it cos I'm not dainty!

They are sooo comfortable under my feet and my orthotics fit in them great.

I am to daintiness what an elephant is to gymnastics. I used to have a lovely pair of Doc Marten's Mary-Jane style shoes, but alas I can no longer wear them. They are just too heavy now. Isn't it odd how we all vary so much? DD

    Hi,

I've been wearing hospital shoes since I was in my late 20s, as I needed the specialist insoles they made for me - and which necessitated deeper shoes. I was puzzled by the fantastic kids' shoes in purple metallic leather which transformed into things that looked like beige Cornish pasties, and wondered where were all the shoes for people of my age!
For over a decade I've been having shoes made for me by an external company through the Orthotics dept of my local hospital, and (admittedly) after some trial and error, they came up with some fantastic boots, and last week I had a second fitting for some shoes. As they're made for my specialist insoles, they fit beautifully. I've only ever had any real joy with Clark's trainer-type shoes, but for ones that look 'normal' the Orthotics people win every time: I have never found a pair of shoes that cupped my heels when my insoles were inside. If you find the same, I would recommend a chat with your local orthotist
