ooh just found this thread! I am another real bookworm!

I reckon we have almost as many books in our house as the local library does!

I really enjoyed the "No 1 Ladies Detective Agency" series by Alexander McCall-Smith and I am currently reading a Robert Goddard thriller "Found Wanting" which OH found in a secondhand bookshop.

The best book I have read in ages is "The Help" by Katherine Stockett which is a story about racial segregation in 1950's America. Very well written, I thought, amusing, moving and distressing in places but I couldn't put it down.

I'm reading World Without End by Ken Follett which is the sequel to Pillars of the Earth and I'm really enjoying it. Follett does weave a good easy-read yarn, I reckon.

Cracking books, did you watch the series on TV?

Yes and enjoyed it, surprisingly - normally if I've read the book I don't like the TV/Film Production. It was well casted and acted IMO.

    Hi Katie,

I have a Sony eReader because I was having problems holding books open. I've had the eReader since July last year and I love it. You download your books in seconds. The downside of the Sony is that their eBooks are more expensive than paperbacks  but I believe the Kindles are cheaper.

Wouldn't be without mine now.

I am still thinking about getting one - we were chatting about theses on LWA a bit back and Del reckoned the formatting issues will be resolved if we can hang on a bit longer...

I'm sure he'll explain better than me.

    I want one!!

I am working my way thro the Martin Beck series, first published back in the late 60s I think. Sparse but very effective writing and I think the first of the Scandinavian school of detective stories. DD

thanks all for your thoughts on the reader. still abit unsure - like you i can pick up books from the charity shops for next to nothing- but they have to be clean!! oh my god got one once and i'm sure someone had eaten their dinner of it - have seen a cover/jacket that you can buy to fit over your book.

i'm reading Nemesis by Joe Nesbo - really good start enjoying it lots so far

    happy reading

    Hi all,
Am reading 'Good Omens' by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman and have to say it's the funniest book I've ever read! Thoroughly recommend it to anyone feeling bit down in the dumps like I was. Real chuckle fest Poppy X

    Hi Tilly,
I've just given my copy of the help to my mother-in-law today. I think it was a fantastic book. I don't know about you but when I was reading it I actually found I was reading it in various accents to get the 'feel' of it. I've just started another one yesterday called The Long Song - this time its about slavery in Jamaica. I had Michael Caines autobiography for christmas- again an easy interesting read and my OH got Chris Evans autobiography for Christmas - I've read it and again an easy read entertaining and not too taxing! Love historical novels particularly Jean Plaidy.
