I am sure most of you are aware of poppyg1rl, she is quite a new member but she has posted on here quite a few times with messages of support and good-will for people. Well, it's her birthday today and her big present from arthritis is . . . . . her first knee aspiration and steroiding! We are on parade at 2.30 this afternoon.
I have had this done a number of times and I cannot tell you just how foul a procedure it is - though the relief it brings does make it (almost) worthwhile. (Mind you, it could just be foul to me 'cos the knees have always been my worst-affected areas). Anyhoo, good luck poppyg1rl, I shall be thinking of you very much ar 2.30, I hope they are able to drain all the nasty synovial fluid (it looks like lucozade, oddly enough) and that the steroid they plan to whack in really, really helps. Rest for a good 48 hours after, please, to give it its best chance. Oh yes, and there is this small matter . . . . .
I wish you well. DD

Happy Birthday Poppy,
Is this where they drain the knees and then inject you? If so it worked well for me,

Happy Birthday Poppygirl! But sorry you have to spend some of it at the hospital having your knees done. Hopefully it will give you some relief and then you can consider that it was actually quite a good birthday present.
Hope that, with all those friend and family around this evening you can be a "lady of leisure" and rest up a bit whilst you are waited on hand and foot.
Will be thinking of you.

Happy birthday poppyg1rl, from me and the forum team.

Hi all,
Home a little while ago, it went well and thanks to being fore warned by the lovely DD I insisted they give the local anaesthetic time to work before the plunged in! I'm ok, it wasn't the greatest experience but on the bright side my knee looks more or less normal size now, they said to expect some bruises and pain once the local wears off, so taken tramadol and off to sofa for a rest before the 'party' this evening.
Plus side has been my 3 lads running around after me, makes quite a change!
Thank you everyone for pocket duties, advice and general loveliness, arthritis is bloomin awful, but I've made some wonderful friends through this site, thankyou again Poppy Xxx'grá agus solas'

Hi DD and all you kind people,
Knee is ok, feels swollen? but it's definitely not it just feels very heavy. Party was lovely but tiring, had a cousin round this morning and OH working from home this afternoon to keep an eye on me so I'm being good and sticking to bed or sofa. Need pain meds now though, the knee is sore (not like arthritis pain you're right DD) and seems to be setting everything else off so off to call my OH for his nurse duties!
Thanks and hugs to everyone for bring there for me, Poppy Xx'grá agus solas'

I am glad to hear that you have someone there with you - mind you, I hope your OH is better at the nursing stuff than mine! I love him to bits but a cuppa every three hours or so really doesn't constitute 'nursing'. DD
PS I told you the knee would feel different! Is it lying flat now? Mine always did initally.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -

Hi DD, Iris and Frogmorton,
Thanks for your kind words of support, only just checking forum out as had VERY busy evening!...so much for resting, my eldest came home from school a lovely shade of green and has been sick all evening/night poor lamb. Only hope it doesn't spread to his brothers but knowing my luck...
Just going to rest on the sofa while I can. On the plus side my knee feels much better, not so heavy (and I can lie it flat on the bed DD!) thanks again to all you lovely people take care Poppy X'grá agus solas'

Me being one to always look on the bright side - ! - keep a note of when the effusion begins again. Hopefully that won't be for a while (if the steroid does its stuff) but one cannot rely on the drugs alone. My personal record (after aspiration) I think is about a week before the heat and swelling came back. I sincerely hope you can beat that - six weeks would be good, six months even better! Hi all,
Feeling bit low and weepy, knee is filling up again and is hot and painful.
It's not quite as swollen as last time...yet.
I have been only feet a lot recently, but I can't just stop, had to go to an interview at the army with my eldest son yesterday and did a fair bit of walking, seems I'm paying for it now.
Back at hospital this afternoon for tb test results then hopefully start Humira soon.
Sorry to go on, it helps to get it all out though...

I am so sorry, you rest as much as you can today and keep up with the pain dullers - it can be difficult to pace yourself when things feel better. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hello Poppy,
So sorry you are still struggling. But really hope you can get going on the Humira soon and that it helps you.
