    Hello Hileena

Re your eye probs - your optician may have been right about "dry eyes" even if they were streaming. I know that sound bizarre but I have just been diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome which causes dry eyes (amongst other things) and when I googled, I'm sure I read that, strangely enough, "running eyes" can be a symptom. In terms of the chronic inflammation, just wondered if your GP would refer you to an eye specialist. I was referred recently after being batted back and forth between the optician and the GP for a few months and the eye consultant prescribed some steroid eye drops to use for a month to try to help with the scarring caused by my dry eyes. The bathing your eyes things sounds like a real performance given that it's likely to be an ongoing thing and I just wonder if an eye specialist would be able to help. I naively thought that, because I was taking steroids etc, any eye inflammation would be reduced but apparently oral meds are not easily absorbed by the eyes.

Hope the eyes and the tiredness improve soon.

    Hi Tilly,
    Thanks for that information.
My optician is trained in laser surgery and he said that I wasnt blinking properly and my eyeballs were scratched a bit.....stop using the computer so much :x and use the eyedrops he gave me and if they worked go back to the gp and show him the eyedops and say thats what I had been give, they were helping and could I have some more please.
They didnt help so went to the gp and saw a different one and you know the rest...Just when I read the bit you had put about scarring made me think of what the optician had said about eyeball being scratched.....It might be worth going back to the GP and tryng to see the other one again and mentioning an eye specialist....whts another specialist when you already go to a few :lol::lol:

    Hi again Hileena

From what you say I do think it would be worth following up. I really hadn't realised what problems dry eyes could cause (have had them for years) until recently when I had significant loss of vision in one of my eyes. Thankfully that is hugely better now but apparently the problem was caused by my eyelid sticking to my eye and causing scratching on the front of the eye and now apparently scarring as a result. I think that dry eyes can also cause inflammation and infection so, if that is your problem, it does need to be addressed. And if perhaps the blepharitis was caused by dry eyes in the first place, it might be that if they were properly lubricated, the infections would clear up. The eye specialist told me that, apart from the steroid eye drops, which are only for short-term use, I should use the other lubricating drops he prescribed and the lubricating cream at night, even if my eyes don't feel dry because by the time you notice it, the damage is done. Maybe an eye specialist could prescribe something to clear up the blepharitis and advise on how to prevent it returning. And I agree with you about "yet another specialist!"

    Really good luck with it.

Just back from the GP's she still thinks its blepharitis, not likely to be dry eyes and doesnt understand how the optician could say my eyes were scratched......you would see it is what she said??? He's the one trained in laser!!!!!!!!....anyway she asked did I want a referral to an eye specialist and i said yes.....she said that she didnt think he wouldn tell me any more than she had but she would send off a referral ......4 to 8 weeks she thinks but if I havent heard in 3 weeks get in touch with her again.
I also asked as an afterthought about the tiredness and she said it would be unlikely to be the diclofenic...not to stop them.....she said if I was taking codeine she could understand....I said i was.....about 3 a day....I can have 16  its the lowest dose and just to be used as and when needed so I'll stop those and see if it makes any difference....Right...cup of coffee now  I'm gasping...sat for ages in the waiting room....hear you all later

    Hi Hileena,
I am pleased you are going to see the specialist I think that is the way to go. I don’t like confusion where treatment is concerned.
I hope the reduction in the codeine is the answer for you. I expect it will be a while for them to get out of your system so fingers crossed the tiredness retreats and the diclos keep the inflammation at bay.

    Hi I
Well I agree with you about conflicting opinions....I tend to believe the optician more....he's trained in laser surgery wheras the GP is a GENERAL practioner LOL Sop I'll go by what the eye specialist says.

    Hi Hileena

Sorry you had to battle with the GP over the eye appt but really glad you are going to be referred. As you say, the optician is probably best placed to know what's what with eyes and, as for the scratches, well the optician's equipment is more sophisticated that the GPs. When my GP looked into my eyes last time, he said that the scratches had healed and could see no probs but the optician could see scratches and scarring when he looked with his more specialist equipment. And the eye consultant saw scratches on the other eye too which, as far as I know, hadn't been picked up by either the GP or the optician.

Hope you don't have to wait too long for your appt.

    Hi Tilly,
This time she didnt look at my eyes apart from to say let me see and moved closer and then said they are a bit inflammed...wheras like you say the optician had all his specialist equipment.
As for length of time....I always ask...I know its a bit like How Long is a piece of string  she said probably 4 to 8weeks but if I hadnt heard within 3 weeks get back in touch with her...so thats not too bad

    Hi Hileena,

Oh gp's, opticians and consultants...... never can agree....

I am glad tour seeing the eye people though and sorry i am so late seeing this. Fingers crossed and scratches.... the machinery opticians use are far better then the thing a gp uses but scratches will heal and they tend to quite quickly.....

The other thing mine have never done and well everything to do with eyes needs checking out fully I think. Mind I would cus of my own.

Diclo's never made me tired but the co's did, it was about the only thing they did do though. Leaving you a ((( ))) and a wake up bucket... half drunk though I have no idea who would do that  Cris xx

Cris you are so right on them not agreeing!

Hileena, as you say hopefully not too long to wait for your eye appt. I was told it would be a few weeks but I got an appt really quickly so hope the same happens for you.

Hi, Thanks......I popped back into the opticians when I was passing today to ask for a bit of advice....he gave me some more drops and said USE THEM WHEN YOU NEED THEM...AT LREAST 6 TIMES A DAY.....not just when you think about it  and he also gave me some stuff for night time....I've moved it and cant remember the name but it is a bit stickier which is why its to be used at night.....he also said sometime next week ring the GP and casually ask which specialist she referred you to....and then ring the secretary and try and find out rought waiting time......but until then use the drops and the "stuff" at night

    Well done Hileena

I am so pleased you are getting help - eyes are such a valuable sense aren't they? Can't take the risk. i tend to expect the optician knows best but it seems like the dentsist vs docs for jaw problems...pillar to post :x

    hope the drops do 'something'

Hi.....Not sure exactly how long I've been on diclofenic but about 6 months.
The GP says its unlikely its that.
Hadn't thought about the acupuncture......The only thing I do remember is when I was coming fro my first one he said dont drive, get someone to drive you.....if affects a lot of people with tiredness....thats having it done!!! it didnt make any difference to me...had hubby with me but it was really a waste of his time so I drove myself in future. Think I've felt like this longer than I've been having the acupuncture....there are so many factors aren't there

    Hi Hileena,

After 6 months they shouldn't be the reason.... thing the cc could be? I don;t know flower cus they didn't help me at all so wasn't on them long. The diclo's i was on for over 30 years actually...... don't feel better or worse with out them except I do have more swelling on the cox2's and more pain but that might settle.

You right though there are multiple factors and all could be effecting you a little. Hey i wasn't told a thing about driving my self in re the acupuncture. There really isn't any standardisation is there?

Hope the eyes are easier and leaving you a wake up draft (half drunk I am afraid) and a ((( ))) Cris xx

Chris...widh you wouldnt keep drinking half of it.....:lol: Dont you think i need the lot
No there is no standardisation.....he said if I was oK the first week I should be OK the rest of the time.....and if I felt wobbly or tired  go and sit and have a coffee until I got my self sorted
Maybe he was on comission flogging their coffee

    Afternoon Hileena

Sounds as if you have been given the same advice from optician as I was. And whereas I had just been using the eye drops when my eyes felt dry, the eye consultant, like your optician, said to use them regularly because by the time you notice, it's potentially too late. I too use the eye cream at night which is a pain to do, and takes practice I've found to get it in your eyes not everywhere else  but it really does work. Good plan re following up about appt.

    Hi Tilly,
Quick reply....going away for 4 days for a bit of a break.
Yes the night one is dreadful.....claggy we would say in the North East  I've got Peter to do it once for me but I think I'm better fiddling on myself. I suppose I'll get used to it.
