    Hi Rhys

good to see you - you sound a bit more cheerful today. l am so very glad.

If l need to l lie my foot on a pillow and sometimes have one between my knees tooo which lifts the other foot 'off' it if you know what l mean.

If your foot is very swollen it might help to have a pillow UNDER your foot to raise it up?

    Love

    Hi Rhys

i have only just logged on today after a little spell away from the forum, i just wanted to say hi and welcome.

after reading your first post, it is so sad to hear what you have gone through but glad to see that you appear to be coping better.

as for the foot tip, i really do not know as i dont suffer with my feet, but i would suggest, like others, pop your foot on a pillow and try sleeping with your foot up and then to the side to see if the pain eases. it is all about trial and error and i am trying to find the best postition when i lie own so that my back doesnt hurt.

have yu tried seeing a chiropractor as they sometimes can suggest alternatives methods?

stick with it, theres always someone to talk to on here

Although I have R.A in many joints I have OA in my ankle. I find I need to rest it throughout the day, if I do lots of standing my ankle is dreadful at night so I try to limit it as much as possible. I stick a hot water bottle on mine at night as heat does help. And a pillow is great under the ankle does help as pressure on a painful ankle can be agony.
I can't move my ankle left and right either.

    Hi Rhys

I am so sorry that I am only just dropping into your thread. I want to welcome you to the forum and from what I have read I am glad all these lovely people are helping to lift your spirtis.

I am really sorry that at 16 you have to put up with this disease. I was horrifed when i developed it at 25. (48 now)
I have read all your posts and i believe you are feeling a little better and that the steroid is helping with the pain. I am sooo glad. I have had a few stabs in the bum and they have helped me in the past.
I hope you rheumatology appointment comes quickly and they can put you on the best medication for your condition.

Good luck with your gcse results

Take care (nearly forgot.....a tip for your foot.....If you cant stand the duvet on it cause they are heavy.....if you look up a sheet raiser for the bottom of the bed in a mobility catalogue you could get your parents to make one from an old clothes airer. This is a much cheaper option...My OH did it for me.)

    Hi Rhys

Thank you for asking, I am not too bad but my foot is still very swollen after an operation on three toes. I see the consultant tomorrow for my three month check. I think he will say that the swelling may take a year or so to go down, he initially said three months but there is not much improvement although I have hardly any pain now so that is a bonus. I only have one pair of sandals that fit me atm. Gonna get a bit wet in the rain  Even my uggs are too tight on that foot.

    Hi Rhys

I did a quick google and some conditions can stop you from joining the army: chronic joint diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or gout

Your gp must fill in a medical questionnaire and you will have to pass a fully army medical but I expect you know that.

Have you looked at the British Army website?

    Hi Rhys,

Glad to hear its a bit better today, even with the rubbish weather. Not much of a summer..grrr :x

Hope the appointment comes through for you soon - keep us posted. Ask your Mum or Dad to keep hassling the GP and hospital, it does pay off.

    All the best,

    Hi Rhys

A pleasure  Yep there is hope, do not lose sight of that.

It will not do you any harm to tuck into a lot of fruit and veg but for some with arthritis certain fruits and vegs do not suit - it is all a bit of trial and error and what may affect one person another may be able to eat it by the ton! Some find it makes no difference what they eat.

Seen the foot consultant today and he has moved the goal posts by saying that by the end of the year the swelling will have gone away. I knew he would. He assures me it will go  He is very pleased with the work he did on my three toes and reminds me yet again it was a major op.

I hope today has gone to plan for you,

l will keep my fingers crossed for you as well that your appointment comes next week too.

    Hello

Just cottoned on to your thread and wanted to say hello.

When I was 15yrs migraines took a right hold of me. I would be laid up in a dark room for days on end a few times a month. So I kind of know how you will feel - isolated and wondering will you ever me able to have a normal life?

You hang on in there. It will get better. You and the specialists will figure out what medications will work for you. Maybe a wee bit trial and error to begin with but then you will work it out and everything will look a whole lot better and you will feel just like a 16 yr old should.

Regarding food - yep, I am a firm believer of this. Everyone is different ie alot of folks find the nightshade foods like tomatoes and peppers are a trigger but I am fine on them. Another trial and error I am afraid! I have found avoiding stress helps to keep symptoms calm. Once my meds kicked in I started yoga classes and couldn't believe what my body was capable of doing once again.

Just to give you light at the end of the tunnel ...... this time last year my boyfriend had to dress me, take me to the loo etc and a year later I can do all sorts of yoga positions so hope that helps to show you that it can and usually does get lots better given time.

I wish you well and send you lots of positive healing thoughts.
