I'm expecting to lose a few friends ...

I like facebook. I find it light relief and interesting to catch up on a surface level what folk have been up to. I guess it depends on what type of people you friend on facebook. I have also found it useful for business networking.

Regarding getting fed up listening to people's complaints of headaches etc on their status updates ..... well, as my Gran says, "Your pain is YOUR pain" and having suffered pain myself I would NEVER belittle someone else's pain. I am sure my Lupus and Arthritis pain is pifflin' to many others around the world.

Remember, it is nice to be nice folks.

I take your points below about people commenting when they shouldnt do but whether its facebook, on here, a local newspaper forum I think we see this all the time...At the end of the day there are all sorts of folk and it takes all sorts to make the world go round..
I dont think it is a different spectrum on places like here, i mean there have been things going on here i wouldnt have imagined but they happened and shocked me too....

For example on FB I object to people who link to a story in the news such as the recent killing of a young boy by a hit and run driver. I am willing to stake the deeds to my house that none of these people know the lad or his family and have just posted as a means of telling people "what a wonderful person I am thinking of this young boy who I've never met". I've no problem with real mates stuff on FB and I'm sure if I post anything they object to they will tell me as I will them. It's accepted and expected in my circle that criticism will be heaped upon us by each other, casual friends soon realise that they will be chewed up and disappear into cyber space never to be heard of again and no great loss.

Because of work I do for a biker charity I get friend requests that I accept that I would otherwise ignore but I am prepared to do that being a committee member and trustee of the charity.

On this forum I am much more benign as it is a totally different spectrum of people and I'm sure I've upset people here whether I meant to or not. I will accept criticism but also expect the opportunity to reply.[/quote]

i have made friends with a woman with exact same spelling of name as me... u may not get this but all my life i have only ever known me as Liesa,[TEXT DELETED] but to have found someone who lived in surrey who came from melbourne australia called Liesa [TEXT DELETED] amazed me!!! my daughters in laws live in melbourne australia and my friend Liesa was a postwoman in their suburb of Brighton (we live in Brighton UK)
she emigrated to the UK, spent 8 years here met and fell in love and had a child but desperately missed her family... so they have moved to australia, one day we will go visit the outlaws and go look Liesa up... shes lovely, we do christmas cards and pc chat...lol
i have made friends with relatives who i fell out with, these people on there are my friends they have the same interests as me, i have many great dane 'friends' on fb... who help me when i need advice for my 2 great danes... im fussy who i have on there but i love it... someone to talk to when im feeling low... bit like marmite i think u either love it or you hate it!!

Having spent a good 5 years unable to socialise I now welcome facebook as a link to what is going on. I'm not keen on having a camera pointed at my face every 5 mins when out and about- this never used to happen very often pre-facebook- but apart from that I now find out what is on before the event rather than after. I have found some friends from my past and that has been lovely too.

Del i didnt know you were on facebook!most of the wimmen on here are friends on fb,i quite like fb i have managed to trace long lost family,i dont have a huge friend list just those that i consider good friends although sometimes their posts can be annoying i especially HATE the poker updates and farmville!!!!!!
