Firstly, it was a long 'un, he has spent a good few hours in the hospital and he is very, very tired. I have his permission to post so the upshot of it all is this:

He is going on a waiting list for a double knee arthroscopy and has opted to have them both done at the same time. He has definite chondrocalcinosis in his left knee, and probably a similar problem in the right, hence the arthroscopies. If they do not work then he will be considered for replacements. He is waiting to hear now about a date for his pre-op appointment. He saw a very good doctor today, an underling to one of the main chappies, but tjt said he was very understanding. His hips were Xrayed and they are apparently OK.

Rest up tonight Tony, please. These things take more out of us than we realise sometimes. Sleep well. DD

Evening folks, firstly... Thank you so much DD, you are a true pal..
Secondly, thanks to all the pocket dwellers, I'm so sorry it was such a long appointment.. DD pretty much covered things. He was a smashing bloke, actually took time to listen, which I suppose is why the clinic was running late, can't have it both ways eh? I'm absolutely shattered now, so is my wonderful Wife Janet.. We got there at ten to two,a little early as appointment was at ten past but we were there forever.. As stated, both hips are ok, left knee is the worse so far as there is confirmed chondrocalcinosis in it, but as I explained to him, both hurt as much so maybe they're on par as far as cartaledge damage/erosion/whatever is concerned... I thought it best to have them both done together, yes it means a hell of a lot of pain straight after the ops but at least it is only one bout of recovery, and to be honest I was thinking of what would be easier on Janet, and having the two done at once makes more sense that way. It will mean staying in at least one night instead of being done as an out patient but it does get it out of the way. As said, if these fail to help then replacements are an option, he wasn't one of these docs who adamantly refuses due to my age, however he would be reluctant to do them unless necessary, makes total sense to me, lol.
I think the point he was making was that age wouldn't be a major factor.
I have to wait to hear from the pre-op nurse to get in touch, she may be able to give me some idea of waiting times..
I wont hold my breath
I took the opportunity to mention how painful my back had become lately, thought that he'd be the fella to talk to but apparently I'll need another separate referral from GP to spine specialists  So that means getting my GP to send me back to the extended scope practitioner to see if he'll deem me worthy of an appointment with the specialist.. Lol

So... It has beena pretty long day, I've been so bloody uncomfortable in the horrible seats for hours.. I'm in a lot of pain, hands etc hurting due to using the sticks, so much for resting after having the depo injection on monday, lol.. At least I slept all day yesterday.

Thank you all once again, it really does mean a lot that you are all willing to be with me in spirit.

Sorry if I haven't done individual replies, you know how it is. Mind is willing etc etc..:lol:

    Hi Tony
and thanks to DD for the update
These long appointments are so shattering, I hope you both managed some sleep last night.
My OH had one knee done , and was really pleased with the result, so I truly hope that its the same for you....I think Im in agreement with you, having both done at once....it will save all the coming and going.
Has usual I have everything crossed for you.
Love to you and Janet xx

    Hi Tony,

Hope you are recovering after yesterday's waiting around. And for the sake of your wife Janet I agree with you that you have them both done at once, brave, but right.

Hope that it does'nt take you to long to recover from yesterday. Sending both you and Janet hugs.

    Thanks Joan, Rose, Karen..
I'm resting today, took Janet to work this morning, don't think I'll be doing much of owt else, lol..

I have no idea how long the wait will be.. He took my number & said that a nurse would be in touch to arrange the pre-op appointment.. She should also be able to give me an idea as to how long the waiting list for the ops will be.
He gave me a leaflet on arthroscopies, I took it out of politeness, lol..I'm old hat at these.:lol: I'm purposely trying not to remember how I struggled the last time I had them both done at the same time

    Catch you all soon

    Hi Tony
You must be shattered.....I have a consultant like that....his clinic was running 50 mins late but its because he sits and listens to you...makes a nice change doesnt it.
I think youare very brave having both done together....but probably very sensible.
    Take care and rest

    Hi Tony

Sorry I am late responding to this thread but I know you will let me off.

Well I am glad your appointment went well and the surgeon listened to you. I am pleased that this chap is going to try his best to help you. A brave decission made by you to have both knees done at the same time, but I can understand why. Good to get it over with eh?
I hope this works for you and then you wont need replacements. Will have my fingers crossed.

    Take care

Blimey. I am moving to your area, that is what I call service! Obviously they have recognised that you cannot carry on as you are, so let's hope this double arthroscopy does the trick, yes? Strewth, Tony. DD

Thanks girls... I was expecting her to say that it would be november time....
She said I could either have the 22nd or the 11th... :???: Erm... 11th says I... LOL
I've been under orthopaedics here in Leeds on & off for many years and I've never known anything like it, it's brilliant.. I was a really nice chap.. Only a young fella..
    I'm still in shock..

I think the nurse was a but confused when she realised that he'd put me down as an overnight stay as it's usually out the door once you've woken up day surgery type thing... He realised that not only have I been struggling with the hands etc but Janet has her health issues too.. He said that he might keep me in a second night too depending on how I'm doing, especially having em both done at the same time. He asked if I realised how 'sore' it could be afterwards... Lol
Oh yes, I've had a double one years ago, fun fun fun..:lol:

Tony, that is fantastic news. What did you bribe the doctor with then.
No, I am really pleased for you and the the doctor saw how bad it is for you. And of course I will be there reporting for duty in two weeks.

I am so glad that you don't have to wait long for your opp.

Good luck with your pre assessment on monday and I really hope it doesn't take as long as mine did.
Make sure you take a flask and goodies.

Will be thinking about you cause I am unable to do pocket duty.

    Hi Tony,
I am sorry not been about much lately but I wanted to wish you well for Monday. I must say I am impressed that you are going to have both knees done at once but fully understand why this will be best for both you and Janet.
Thank goodness that you are being given the chance to stay at the hospital, hopefully it will give you more confidence that all has gone well and your meds are updated if necessary.
Have a relaxing weekend and I hope Janet is feeling a lot better too.
