I thought all was going well with the steroid reduction programme but I have learned over the past three days that I was deluded. I had to increase today, only to 2.5 but I am annoyed. I think I will be doing the alternating thing, 2.5 one day, 2 the next then after a while 2.5 one day, 2 for two days, then 2.5 and 2 for three - oh I am sure you get the picture. The heartbreaking thing for me is that 2 point flaming 5 has made a difference. I know it isn't a major setback but it feels like that. Pull yourself together, DD, stop being so negative. This will pass, all things do. Thank you for reading. DD

I get the picture, DD. The alternating thing makes absolute sense and I see no reason at all why you should regard this as a setback. Slowly, slowly catchee monkey & all that. The aim is to get off them and the method is irrelevant. Do whatever you have to do and do not feel that this is failure in any form or, indeed, being negative. It’s surely a very positive way of facing up to stuff. Spherical objects do cause us some problems. If you take 2.5 do you have to chop them in half?
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hey DD, it is just a small bump in the road. It takes a while for the body to adjust to the drop. I have done the alternating days and it did really make a difference, then I was able to make the next drop.

The main thing is the fact that you have already made so much progress. You are so determined, that you will not allow this to hinder you.

In the meantime enjoy the small increase and have a good evening.

    Morning dd

I think the Idea of alternating the dose of your steroid is a good one. It will help your body get used to the lower amount steadily. Perhaps when you drop again the amount of pred you can do the same ie (1...2....1...2)
till you get down to the lower.
I know you will eventually reach your goal of pred free it just might take a little bit more time than the estimated time you set yourself.
Keep trying dd you are doing so well

    Take care

I have a number of ideas of what you could do with me and all of them are lovely. A cruise in the Bahamas, a lock-in up the pub (never done one of them  ) send me to a health farm for six months of pampering and lettuce, (smuggle the gin in when you visit), let me loose in Ikea with a grand to spend, buy me an everlasting ticket for Twickers and a life-long pass to Wimbledon, the list rolls on.

Thank you all for your support and encouraging replies, my inner Eyeore is on the surge, that's all. I guess relentless hurty pains and achy does that to a gal. Never mind, it's sunny, Mr DD is being a rugby ref and I am off to make a cuppa, so life ain't all bad! I hope you are all having a reasonable Sunday. DD

PS 2.5 is achieved, sticky, with the joys of one coated pill.

OK, pencil me in for the pub lock-in & Twickers.

MR DD does the ref thing too, does he? Mr SW's refs are all bent unless his team is winning.

Years ago I had to chop my lower dose, enteric coated preds in half - which kind of put paid to the enteric coating - and sometimes the pills as I ended up with a pile of powder.

KBO, my fiend. You're doing OK.

It's a boy thing I guess, oddly enough Mr DD's refs cannot make a right decision to save their lives. It's lovely to see him so animated. It's a physical game this one, men hurtling into each other all over the place - yum-yum.

I don't want to end up cutting the 1mgs, they are tiny for starters! I think a deal of alternating doses will be coming into play now, so impatient DD may win out. This will roll into 2012, of that I am sure. Never mind, it's only time. DD

DD... you're a fighter for sure  .. so keep on with reaching for that goal... but remember sometimes we have to take time out.. and if that means taking a little more of them pills, then so be it! :!:

As Toni et al have been saying, you are doing fantastically well

Hope you have a good Sunday...

The main thing is that you are reducing all the time, DD. I know your plan was to get to the finishing line by the end of the year. It’s only September and you might well do that. But factor in Christmas – which isn’t a good time for any unnecessary heroics – and work out a flexible, realistic schedule. Timetables are good but flexibility (Ho! Ho! Ho!) is better. Don’t sabotage your own goal by pushing yourself beyond its capabilities. You can do this. You are doing this. NO SPRINT FINISHES.

I know you are right and yes, so far so good. I knew it would hurt but I wasn't sure how much: now I know and as this is the early days of it I had better get a grip! Things always get worse before they get better but get better they will. DD

It isn't 'early days'. You were on mid to high teens worth of the stuff as I remember. You've done fantastically well to get so low so soon. Of course, you may be meaning it's early days for the tough-bit-at-the-end stuff which, I guess, is probably right, though I thought that started kicking in around 5 mgs usually and you've even got beyond that. This is why you now need to take it slowly and let your body catch up.

Don't minimise how well you've done, DD. This is already a success story and we're all proud of you so, by all means 'get a grip' - but make sure it's on a bottle of something good. Then pass it over here.

I understood your post (and all the kind things you said in it) but that last sentence has me flummoxed - did you write it in Acrylic? I just don't understand the rather strange concept you mention. Pass? Do I have to eat it? DD

Anyway I know what you are doing and where you have reached and i think its FANTASTIC!!! So!!!!! you have to alternate them for a little while ....dont beat yourself up about it. If thats what works keep it up for the minute......I think it was sticky/stocky someone like that  that mentioned flexibility......I think that is very important....,my flexible friend  Go with the flow.

    Good morning dear Amigo.
I hope that today will bring wonders and merriment, joy and laughter, failing that, not too much bloody pain.

I have learned this morning from a kind and well-informed source that the current level of muscle pain (a new one for me and therefore kinda interesting) is an effect caused by the steroid withdrawal. This has further convinced me that I am doing the right thing in coming off these little wonders and I am not too bothered now if it isn't achieved by the end of the year. 2012 has twleve months in it too and that provides an expanse of time to fiddle about with alternating doses. The 'timetable' has been adjusted and impatient Daisy has been put in a box. I hope she flaming well stays there. With my considerable weight sitting on the lid she should, all being well. DD

Reporting for box sitting duties. At last a task for which my body is perfectly designed. Shall I draw up a rota?

In which case, perhaps we could cart this box we're sitting on, and its contents, over to your mansion or yacht somewhere and do this thing in the civilised manner to which I'm sure you're accustomed?
