Anky, what an amazing childhood you had :!: It must have been quite hard for you at school when you were there for such short periods. Did you go to Goose Fair in Nottingham? I always loved that fair, and when I worked in Nottingham I used to take my class to the official opening every year. It's part of the history and tradition of Nottingham, so I thought that the children should know about it. I don't think I would take that risk these days though

Joan, we went to Goose Fair every year since I was a child up until about ten years ago, we were also there the year they were rioting on Hyson Green. Also Ilkeston, Ripley, Belper etc and all over the country to be honest. Going to school was quite hard but you had to be confident and outgoing even if you weren't really, I remember schools standing me up in front of the whole school in an asssembly and anyone being allowed to ask me questions!! We both know that wouldn't be allowed now but it was then and suppose helped make me the person I am today, good or bad. I wouldn't ever change my childhood for anything I had the most amazing experiences but wouldn't like to go back to it now. xxx

Thanks for your reply, prefabkid. I hated Latin at school too, but then married a Classics scholar. He sometimes comes in useful for solving crosswords anyway  My OH is also very keen on archaeology like you, so his knowledge of Latin and Greek is useful for reading inscriptions on tombs etc. He can get excited by a pile of stones on the ground, but I just stand there and try to look intelligent :lol:
