Hi all, I am in so much pain today. I was so uncomfortable last night, I just hurt everywhere. Today is no different, its the awful nagging ache that doesn't go away. My knees, shoulders, wrists, hands and fingers, ankles, lower back, achilles tendons all ache so much. My hips really hurt and so does my back not sure if its my hips, disks, or sacrum? It is making me cranky, pain killers not touching it at all.

I have badearache as well, bizarrely. It has been coming on for a few days and is really painful today. Not sure if its an infection, no fever or anything or my neck. Been told in the past its my neck causing earache.

My little finger the end joint is so so so painful and as I am right handed, and its that hand, it gets quite wearing. The joint is deformed and the physio told me off for being so rough with it!! Maybe its the contracture causing the problem, as I thought you didnt et hot swollen, end finger joints with inflammatory that it was only OA? Anyone know??

Feeling fed up and irritable and a little teary. The pain is driving me mad.

Sorry to moan, but I don't want to drive my family mad.

    Hi Suzygirl

Oh dear a very bad day there lass and yes moan to us we 'get it'. Family feel upset and frustrated don't they?

I heard the fingertip joint is most often OA as well :???: some wise person will know the truth l hope.

My jaw has 'gone' before now due to arthritis and that felt very like earache....l was not sure for ages what it was....ear/ teeth/ even that neuralgia pain some get, but it was my jaw in the end.

I took my anti-inflams and painkillers for this at the time.

Why don't you try to look after you today?? get a nice hot water bottle/wheatie and do your best to get comfy on teh sofa with a book/DVD/music for an hour???

Might not help much but here is a (((()))) or two from me

    Love

    Toni xx

Arthritis will touch any damn joint it pleases which is a blasted nuisance. My PA is 'supposed' to start in the small joints of the toes and hands but didn't! It's rough suzygirl, and we all know how rough it can be. Frog is right, spoiling yourself is one very good treatment and I second her wholeheartedly. Come and moan to us at any time, we know what it is like. I hope you can drift off, sleep helps too. DD

Thanks Toni and DD, I think I will follow your advice and spoil myself. I don't do it often. I did go to bed last night at 8pm as I had just 'had enough' of the pain and discomfort. I slept for a couple of hours then the pain wakes you. Try to find a cool spot on the sheets for my joints. Eventually drifted back off early hours this morning and woke to great pain!! Yeah!!!

I am currently scouring the house for various painkillers, discovered some naproxen so ahve taken them, which has eased the earache, if nothing else. My wrists are on fire. Evenoings pain wise, swelling and throbbing is always worst for me. Not sure why, so have a good tv line up sorted. I am going to slob in pj's and pig out on choc I think. Anyone care to join me??

I have lit my oil burner with lavender to calm my irritability, and have the painkillers right next to me. A hot water bottle on my ear sounds bliss!!! Will try that.

Thanks for 'getting' it, it helps to offload to someone who understands what it is like, I feel al ittle better fo rit.

It's the relentlessness of it all that really grinds away at us, I think. No matter what we do to ease matters the pain is only lightly dulled for short periods, it never goes - but at least the short periods do give some sort of relief from it all, and trashy telly helps too! DD

    Hi Suzy,
I hope you are resting at the moment and the hotwater bottle has helped a little. Prod your rheumy nurse when you can you do need to get the meds sorted soon.

Not much help I know but I am sending a few hugs and hope tomorrow things begin to get a bit easier for you.

So sorry you're suffering so much today Suzy. Sounds like the pain is just overwhelming at the moment. I find heat patches/hot water bottles/hand warmers all help soothe things, even if they don't make the pain go away. When I have trouble sleeping, I use my ipod and either have soothing music or an audio book, which helps distract me. It can help me drift off, but if I'm not able to sleep, at least it keeps me occupied instead of focusing on the pain.
Take care, and I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

Thank you all so much, it means a lot to have the support. I typed a long reply earlier then the internet went down!!!

I slept well last night thanks to the painkillers and a wee dram or two!!! Had 2 squares of choocie and some crisps ( I am diabetic, so have to be careful). Enjoyed my trashy tv and feel more ready to cope today, except for the hammering and banging next door which is giving me a headache.

I am still in pain and may contact the gp to see about raising pred more to setle things down, which I am loathe to do. it is so draining and relentless, ts hard to keep going, but my spoiling myself evening worked, haven't done it for ages. Thanks for the suggestions and support.

It helps to share with those who understand the grind of arfur day in day out.

Probably not helping that have quite a few stressful situations going on as well, and little Izzy goes to be neutered tomorrow. So, am worrying about that as well, silly I know, but she is so lovely and marvellous company, I don't want anything to ruin that.

Hope you are all as well as can be expected.

I'm glad you had a good night's sleep, Suzygirl. 'A wee dram or two' is definitely a good means of getting one. I intend to explore that lovely route again at the weekend when we go up our son's. I do hope the choccy wasn't simultaneously though. It would be a wicked thing to do to a good malt.

Stress never helps. I'm sure Izzie would be stressed too if she knew what tomorrow held but, fortunately for her, she can live in the moment. Hopefully yours will lessen a little when you have her back safe and sound.

The pred situation is never easy. All any of us can do is what seems best at the time. It might be that you need to up it a little temporarily. That doesn't mean you can't reduce it again later. I hope, whatever you decide, you feel happy about it.

Hi, I'm sorry to read how bad you feel, its just something you can't get away from sometimes. My GP told me that although OA isn't one of the inflamatory arthritis groups, when it gets bad, it does become inflammed. I have OA and my joints get red and swollen if they are really bad. This afternoon my right wrist felt as if it had been hit by a hammer!
Hope you soon feel a bit better and don't worry about the tears, we all do it and sometimes I find it helps me, but it upsets my husband

Hope all goes well for Izzy tomorrow - I'm sure it will.

Tilly, lovely to hear from you, I have been thinking of you too. x

Woodbon, I think arthritis whether inflammatory or OA, just palin hurts like the devil. I hope yours settles down for you soon.

SW, I have been exploring the wee dram route for a while now, I have tried a fair few, I do like JUra, and have tried 3 varities of it, Drambuie was nice, haven't settled on the perfect one yet, but I am still trying!!! Lots of different ones to work my way through. I do like a JD as well.

Enjoy yourself at your sons at the weekend. I will be relived when Izzy is home safe and sound, she is my little treasure.

Hurting tonight and trying to get comfy, but am going to watch yet more trashy tv tonight, am in my pj's, but no choccy for me tonight.

Well, I went to the gp this morning, who took one look and called the hospital. She spoke to the rheumy nurse and they have put the pred back up to 10mg, which is the dose I am supposed to be on. I am not to reduce at all until been seen and put on another med, supposedly in next couple of weeks.

I am so frustrated, I hate the side effects of the pred, and all my insecurities, my hubby hates me fat, and I hate the moonface and hairy chin. Never mind my bp and blood sugar. I want my life back

I could hardly walk this morning due to the stiffness, I suspect it is either the hips or sacrum or both causing the problem. Making life very awkward.

Have picked up Izzy from the vetand I am upset, she has been butchered. I swear a trainee has done it, not happy at all.

    A very glum SG here.

    Hi Suzy
Sorry you are in so much pain. Are you able to have a nice hot shower or bath? I find that keeping my body warm when I have a flare up helps. It's dreadful when your pain killers don't touch the pain. Have a lie down after you've wrapped yourself up in some warm clothes and forget about the world. My feet were aching today (as well as other bits) so I've put on 3 pairs of socks! Sounds crazy but already I feel better!!!!

Sending you cyber hugs and hope that you feel less painful soon.

I'm sorry, Suzygirl. I know you really did not want to have to put the pred right up again and knowing that little Izzie has been going through the mill too must make it so much worse.

You've got the pred down once so you can do it again once you're established on something else that's working for you. I know it's easy for me to talk - I don't have any of the nasty side effects of pred, apart from the moon face which I hated.

Stay with us, Suzygirl, and let us try to help you through this.
