Hi, I have resisted from posting and moaning about my blasted knee for a while now, but i am at the point of wanting to cut my leg off.
It doesnt matter what i do i cannot get any rest from it. I use hot/ cold, anti flams, and other meds but oh no.
I did walk a fair bit yesterday as i thought if i dont it hurts so if i do i wont notice any difference, but i have noticed and its worse, and just feel like havin a good cry .

Oh yeah im the numpty for over doing it, just havin a winge.

Anyone else got anyother ideas (legal) that i havent thought of???

Hope u all get some good rest. Take care all

    Hi Clare

I'm replying in sympathy as I'm having trouble with my knee at the moment as well. Resorted to upping the steroids and yesterday caught me on the phone with my rheumy nurse begging to go back on the anti tnfs (which I swore off 3 months ago!)

Haven't got any other bright ideas, otherwise would be doing it myself!

    Hope you feel better soon.

At this moment the illegal is becoming very tempting believe me. The only thing stopping me (well 2) is it messes big time wiv my head and job interview tues.

All will be fine (as usual), will have this rant and all will be good.xx

Hi Clare, im so sorry you're suffering, its not nice knee pain I know.
I don't know if this might help? I bought in desperation and on the advice of my Rheumy nurse a knee support from Bo*ts the chemist, it's a blue neoprene one and I can't tell you how much it's helped me. Meanwhile, know that I'm thinking of you, sending big healing hugs (((((()))))) X

I empathise. Knees are crucial to movement and when they misbehave life can be really miserable. The answer lies within one's own grasp: don't over-do things, always stop when you think you can manage more. Once things have been over-done then the only treatment is heat/ice (neither will bring long-lasting relief but they can ease the worst), keep up with the dullers (take those regularly to take more of the edge away) but above all rest it.

If you are going to invest in a knee support check out the neoprene ones (local chemists usually sell them). They are flexible and warm the affected joint too, but measure your knee at its widest part to ensure you get the right size. Good luck and I hope the support helps. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi all

I am new to the site. I thought it was only me who had trouble with their knee :?: Silly me.

My knee has been throbbing on and off for the last 3 or 4 days. I have put it down to the weather, getting colder. I've tried arnica jel which offers some relief. The beauty of arnica is that you can use as many times as you like.

I mentioned it to the doctor on the last visit, but alas its being ignored. I see consulant again on the 22nd, so will bring it up again.

    Hope you get releif soon

I had an arthroscopy on my left knee which has helped quite a lot, although I was told that it's bone on bone in one area. The consultant said that you could think of it like carpet that's worn right down to the floorboards in the area where you walk in the door, but the rest of the carpet isn't quite so bad. However, he warned me that a new carpet will be necessary in the future, but I'm trying to put it off as long as possible. Now my right knee has started to join in too, so two new carpets for the price of one might be a good idea

I sleep with a knee cushion between my knees ( a wedge shape ) which I find takes the pressure off my joints.

Joan, like yr description, you tell it so well.
I sleep with a cushion, and have been told that as im 38 i have 20yrs to wait for a new carpet.
Hey at least my left isnt as bad as right, thats something.

No more moaning, not tonight anyhow.xx

Hi, sorry your knees are so bad I can totally sympathise. I have to agree a knee support does help, I bought when desperate and crying from the pain, that nothing relieved. Eventually I had a steroid burst to help, but till then, the support did help.

Hope you get some relief soon, there is nothing worse.

    Hi clare

I haven't posted this weekend so didn't see this.

I do hope today that your knee has settled down. I can only imagine how painful it must be as I have ra. My shoulders are very sore with grinding and the neck so to have a weight bearing joint grind must be terrible.

I hope you find something to help relieve your pain.
    Love Julie xx

Ouch liesa, Have no idea how it effects you, but for me its hard if im honest. I have always been a dooer, and this has just reinforced over the past few days that i am not that person anymore

Got support today so will give it a go.

I could have screamed at people and their attitude towards people who, 1 walk slower than themselves and, 2 knock into your stick . 'Like i use it cos i like too' 'NOT'

Arrrrgh, now stoppin rantin, honest.

    Hi CJ

I have an awful time with my knees too, you have my full sympathy. When they are playing up something rotten, I use a neoprene wrap - it's like the tubi bandage thingies made from neoprene, only it has three straps which go around the back and velcro to the front of it, rather than being neoprene all the way around. It means you can adjust it depending on how fat your knee is and also allows the knee to breathe a bit more so it doesn't get all itchy from overheating! There's also a hole cut out of the kneecap area in the front, to help keep the kneecap in place.
Mine was from Boots, and it's by Elastoplast, and costs about £30 - it's more expensive, but very very worth it!

    Big hugs

    WW

Re. knee supports, I was fitted for one at the hospital, so they are available on the NHS if you ask to be referred for one. In fact, there were two which seemed comfortable, so I was allowed to have both of them. However, I was told not to wear them all the time, only when really necessary, as your muscles can become weaker if you rely on the support too much. Then if you had a TKR, it would mean that your recovery would be more difficult as the muscles would not be very strong.
