    hi Julie,

flower its so early days and the discomfort and pain will ease back each day so its going to be alright soon.

the good thing that not wearing a collar will do is not lose the muscles strength, the bad thing just take it very easy. make sure you rest up a lot and i so hope you have found a comfortable position. hugs and love Cris xxx

Morning gorgeous girl, I hope all is well. I was in Sainsbriz with my beloved at 7.05 am  , out by 8.10am and am astonishingly still married. . We only had one domestic in the tea and coffee aisle, and that number is so low entirely due to my immense reserves of patience (and the knowledge that he would be paying for everything!) I am thinking of you. I am appallingly late with this update and I sincerely apologise but this afternoon went completely haywire at about 2.30pm and it's not quite back on track yet.

Right, I rang Julie (I knew it was OK to do so as she rang me but I was unable to talk at that time) and the situation is this. She had another miserable night last night - she cannot get comfortable, she cannot lie flat, she is at that ghastly stage where she just does not know what to do with herself to help matters. Her throat is very sore first thing but does ease during the day, which is a good thing. She is feeling very frustrated by the current set of limitations so if anyone is up for a spell of flamingo-sitting-on please come and help me! Her lovely Richard had today off but may well be going back to work tomorrow.

Right, I have to go as I am tired, it's been a tough afternoon and I have to do dinner. DD

I have a PhD in pink flamingo sitting and will be delighted to oblige. This one will not budge.

Oh poor Julie, thinking of you so very much.

When in this much trouble, some extra pain meds do seem to be called for. Can the GP prescribe?

I was once discharged the day after an amputation on my foot - with paracetamol  .
In so much pain I was being sick all the time, so GP came out and injected pethidine and requested district nurse did the same for a few more days until the pain subsided a bit - which it will Julie, eventually.

These are tough days following a big op. I am with you in thoughts and spirit Julie.

    Take care,
    Love, Lizx

    Dear Julie

I do feel so sorry for you. I know that you were worried about sleeping on your back post op as you do not find this too comfortable anyway. As you have the electric bed can't you have the head rest part raised so that you are sort of sitting in bed when trying to sleep. I expect you have tried that though. Is it pain that you are suffering from, so extra meds would help. Or is it that you just cannot get comfortable, which is what I think the situation may be? Have you tried wearing the collar as it is soft when trying to rest? I had the hard collar on for quite a long time but it has not made the muscles in my neck become weak. In the very early days I used it sometimes in the day when snoozing on the settee with my head raised on cushions, but I never slept in bed with it on.

I wish I could come up with something that would help you.

    Love and gentle hugs

Morning Julie, I hope you had a better night last night and that things are now beginning to ease at least a little. Don't forget it was only Saturday you had the op - not even a week yet - and you were bustled out on Sunday! What will you do about the meth this week? Now that's a tricky choice I know but hopefully the RA is behaving itself at the moment (you're still on the leflunomide aren't you? Perhaps that is proving to be sufficient at the moment.) Anyhoo, I hope all is as well as it can be. DD

G'day friend. I hope it's a better one for you. It's very early days and things rarely improve quite as quickly as we'd like. I'm thinking of you.

Wonderful news that you are home Julie although a little quickly, sorry I am still having laptop problems so I am a bit late with the posts. x:( I do hope things are a little easier today for you and hopefully you can catnap a little during the day. Fingers crossed that you are due for a home visit soon and some much needed assurance can be given.

In the mean time, rest as much as you can, I am thinking of you.

I've just had a quick word with our girl and she was sounding very tired. I think the enormity of what she has been through in the past few months has hit, let alone the enormity of the operation itself. She is struggling so hard with sleeping as she cannot get herself comfortable, she is very tired and a tad deflated. This will pass, all things do, and she has reluctantly agreed that yes, perhaps resting a little more than she has been is a good idea! Let's hope she does so, yes? DD

    Dear Julie

It is so difficult to get the right balance of rest and if you cannot get comfy to sleep that will not help matters at all. I looked back on my diary and day 4 was the very worst day for me - I had had Lola here in the morning for a few hours and I was sooo exhausted afterwards. Don't get me wrong I had thoroughly enjoyed seeing her but it was far, far too much for me so early after the op. I took to my bed around lunch time and then Lucie's mum called to visit but she understood perfectly that I was in no fit state for visitors. If she had not I would have to have told her straight that there was no way that I had the physical strength to see her as much as I wished to do so. Visitors are extremely tiring and you will just have to be firm if you are too tired and they should understand that. From Day 4 I began to start to feel human again. That was how it was for me.

I did not have staples like you but dissolvable stitches.

I do hope that having family over at christmas will not prove too hectic for you. Difficult though it is, you will have to be firm if you feel that you need to have quiet time away from them.

Dear Julie, it is so frustrating, I know having been through it but it most definitely does get better but does take time unfortunately.

I am thinking of you. I can now discard the collar and have another appointment to see the consultant in around three months and he wants to see me again in 6 months time after that which will then be one year from the operation. He says he will need to keep an eye on me as having an op on one part of the spine puts more pressure on the spine further down. He is pleased with the way it has gone so far and at the moment he is not thinking about a further operation for me. Symptoms are nowhere near perfect at all but I have to wait and see what happens and hope.

    Hugs
    Elna x

I've not been on for a long while. Had a really busy period, but I have just caught up on this, and I hope you will slowly be able to manage more sleep, and the soreness subsides for you.

You've been through it big time these past few months, but I am amazed at your stamina and how you are determined not to give up.

Best healing vibes Julie, and may a good night's sleep come to you very soon.
