I've got a searing pain in the base of mi thumb, palm side. In the 'ball'.. Jesus it's sore and very tender.
If I tuck my thumb into my hand it hurts right through the thumb joint.
Could this just be the information? Any ideas folks?

Not really got any ideas Tony only that the fact your thumb is probably inflamed.
Have you overwork your hands lately?
I hope the soreness wears off soon.
Love Julie PFX0 -
hi Julie. I suppose it depends who you ask.. Lol
If you ask me, nope, hardly done owt..
Janet on the other hand (forgive the pun) would tell you I did way too much the past few days
Thing is, I've done my very best to ease off on the hands, tried not using the crutches when possible so I reckon they've done less than usual..
I did trim my bush (now behave!!) A couple of days ago.

OH Tony, you do not need this just before your hols!
I hope it's a short lived pain in the thumb.
Wishing you well,
Numpty0 -
If 'trimming your bush' involved scissors, they are definitely not the arthritic thumb's best friend. Have you any wrist splints? They might help or, indeed, anything that'll hold it somewhere where it's relatively comfortable. I sometimes used to use crepe bandages after wedging my thumb outwards by shoving a wodge of cotton wool, more bandage or anything soft of your choice into the palm of my hand. It's not a lot of fun. I hope a bit of the old 'sol y sombra' will help. (For Mods - sunshine & shade which is (a)the seats at a bullfight and/or (b) brandy and anise. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

thanks numpty.
it was a small pair of loppers I used, had to use them as it was a rather large bush
Lol
Joking apart, yeah, I've probably done some mischief to it and made it angry. I wear the wist splints any time I'm using the hands but they've been hurting the particular spot somewhat. The crepe and wedge sounds good. Think I'll give out a go. Need it to ease as I'll be putting pressure on it with the crutches. Thankfully most of tomorrow will be spent trying to find comfort on mi bum lol
diazepam, my rebelling companion extraordinaire
Thanks hun. Sometimes I wish I drank, that would numb the pain.

I have terrible pain in both my thumb joints!
The left hand is severe at the base joint and the right is not quite as bad at the base joint, but the joint where my thumb meets my palm hurts badly now too!! They both flared up recently after my toe op, but i think it was because i was using them both to pull myself up in the bed when i was resting my foot and i don't normally use them like that, so it think they were complaining!!!
After resting them for a few days, they have settled down again, but they are both always painful when i use them to do anything like opening jars, or anything that is a bit more fiddly like buttons etc.
So my advise is to rest them and maybe either a hot or cold compress, whichever works for you.
I hope they settle down soonLOVE EMMA X0 -
Oh Tony I do hope it eases very soon, I have OA in my thumb on one hand , so I know how painful it is, I have bought a wrist and thumb support off the net and its really comfy to wear.
You take are, soon be your holiday...Love
Barbara0 -
thanks girls.
I shall rest them plenty on holiday.
Hopefully relaxing in the sunshine
If the knees behave I shall try not to use the crutches which is definitely making the pain worse at the minute.
Oooh, and I shall return a year older tooMe-Tony

Hi Tony,
I've got the exact same problem, no-one can tell me what it is. Alli I know is it's bleeding painful.
I just wanted to say, I hope you have a great holiday and a 'Happy Birthday' from me!
Magenta xx0 -
aww, thanks hun. Haven't seen you around too much. I hope you're alright..
The thumb thing? I'll see the doc when I get back if it's still as bad. It's been painful before, got sero neg in hands, but this is worse than normal. I spouse I could have hurt it. Go back to rheumy in about two months, probably to start the meth. I will mention it then. It's VERY tender to the touch.. :roll:Me-Tony

Hiya Tony,
I'm not doing too well these days. I visit the forum every day though.
I'm really struggling these days, worried about my job-the usual!
When I press the area in my thumb, it's very tender too. It's coupled with extreme pain in my wrist.
Anyway, have a lovely, relaxing time away-where are you going? Somewhere warm I hope?
Magenta xx0 -
sorry I disappeared. Had to get a bit of sleep. And when I say a bit.... Lol
The thumb thing sounds very similar. I think mine is just starting to flare up as it's spread now, all the back of the fingers are hurting and the left hand is now on fire
Oh bugger it. I'm off on mi jollies so it can go stuff.
We are going to tossa de mar in northern spain.

Hi Tony,
Hope this clears up and you can enjoy your hols. I'm in the process of being seen and diagnosed by the rheumatologist after the sudden onset of what they are fairly sure is arthritis in one form or other. I too have this pain in the ball (base) of my right thumb, it just feels like its badly bruised.
Hope you get some relief and do enjoy them hols
all the best, Rick0 -
thanks Rick. Sort I'm just replying. Had no tinterweb until we got to Spain. The hotel has free wifi, excellent.
Lol
I do have sero negative inflammatory in the hands, wrists etc so it is very likely inflammation. It had just never been as sore and localised before. Exactly as you said, like it was bruised..
It's eased a tad now. There is a jacuzzi in the hotel with very powerful jets. I blasted one joint after another with it lol. Bliss.
Thing is over got bad knees so most of the time I use crutches, I've got wrist splints but it still hurts the hands etc.
Today I strapped the knees up well and left the crutches at the hotel. Let the hands rest a little.
Hope you're ok, and good to meet ya.. 8)refereerick wrote:Hi Tony,

Me again Tony!
Glad to here the thumb has eased a bit, its a pain when you need to use your hands/arms to force yourself upright because your knees/ankles wont go and your hands are all bruised. Strange sensation, although mine too has eased a bit today, so a big thumbs up to that!
Take care mate, and enjoy the Spanish sun 8)0 -
Hi Tony,
How's your thumb now? Hope you're enjoying your holidays? I bet it's really warm.
Magenta x0 -
Hi Rick, had a bit of pain with it again today so left the crutches at the hotel, knees don't think that was a good idea
Still having a great holiday though. Taking plenty of diazepam, that's helping, along with the diclofenac and fentanyl patches.. Oh, and the sun of course lol.
There is a fantastic jacuzzi in the hotel, with very very strong water jets. I've been placing all of the sore joints right up to it one at a time lol.
Bliss. There are also great massage chairs here too. Getting plenty if use out of them.
Take it steady matey
Magenta, bless ya hun, was just writing a reply to your thread lol
It's been lovely and hot here today, just how I like it. Tan is coming along nicely.
Will try post a photo in a minute.Me-Tony
