Give it time, Kathe. These meds can take anywhere between two to twelve weeks to 'kick in', you are in the very early days of this new treatment. Take care, yes? DD

The pain is there all the time, in my case that's thanks to the OA which of course the humira etc don't affect. I sleep with a pillow lengthways between my legs as that keeps my knees and ankles apart, that offers some relief but admittedly not much. I was wondering if your leave was coming to an end and I hope you start to feel better before you head back out to the rig. DD

I've been taking humira since July 09, together with the injected meth. They subdue the worst of my PsA (which I guess is a good thing) but, thanks to the OA in my knees and ankles, I am not really aware of the benefit. DD

    Hello Kathe

So sorry to have come so late into this post but just wanted to say that I hope so much that the Cimzia starts to help you soon. If the injection site reaction bothers you, do check with the doctor. I used to have very bad injection site reactions when I was on Humira and the doc suggested that I took a "loratadine" anti-histamine tablet before the injection and one daily for a couple of days after if needed and that made all the difference.

    Thinking of you.

I'm sorry you're having problems with the injection site, kathe. I hope things go better for you on Wednesday.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hi Kathe,

I am very sorry to hear you are in so much pain and can't sleep. Sending you some (((hugs)))

I will be starting on cimzia too soon. At least if my liver counts return to normal. I was on remicade for 3 months and it started working immediately. Got the meds on friday and felt like I was cured on monday. But it only lasted 1 1/2 month and has messed up my liver counts.

The only other thing that has helped me when the pain has been really bad is Tramadol. It makes me feel like I'm on another planet, but it helps me sleep. Have you tried that?

Hello Kathe, oh my word you do sound very fed up. I cannot help in anyway but I do remember those feelings so very well. Over the years I have learned to expect nothing from any drug and that saves me from the disappointment of not a lot happening very slowly. I hope the cimzia soon begins to improve matters but there is no such thing as a long-lasting quick fix in the ghastly world of auto-immune arthritis. Keep your chin up, keep fighting, stay as positive as you can - I am thinking of you. DD

Kathe, these meds can take a while to get going but if even 20mg of pred isn't helping then that is not good. Be patient, even though the humira had a rapid effect on my inflammation markers it hasn't helped much in any other way but I do know it is helping to suppress the disease. Is there any way you could take some time off work so that you can rest properly? DD

    Hi Kathe,

No I still haven't started. I had the blood tests 2 weeks ago to see if my liver is better, but I haven't heard anything from the hospital.

Is there still no improvement for you?

And what about the antibiotics - have they worked yet?

Usually they work in about 1 or 2 days. That's why the doctors always remind you to take the whole course, even though you feel better.
Idealy they should culture the bacteria and test different types of pennicilin to see what will help and chose the mildest kind.
