On top of everything else I now seem to have high blood pressure.
It was sky high during a day procedure but we put that down to being in hospital....been going to the GP's for regualar check ups {2 months usually} I went yesterday.....it was going down....but not to their satisfaction but yesterday was up again...She suggested I come back next week for another test. I said NO....I already have 4 NHS appts next week so it would def be up :lol:
So the next test is the following Mon.
Sorry I know this has nothing to do with arthur....I'm just so fed up with everything.

Thanks for letting me let of steam

Love
Hileena

Hi Hileena, I am sorry that you have another problem to contend with. Please do not worry about it "not being directly arthritis related". In actual fact it more than likely is with the medication we take on a daily basis over the years. I am sure it does not help the BP. Mine was all over the place, I had to do a self check with our home monitor and take my homework to the gp. I was put on a 24 hour bp monitor and finally went on a water tablet which more recently lisoprinol 2.5mgs has been added too. Not great but there seemed to be no rhyme or reason why mine would be ok one time and sky high the next.

Goodness, 4 appts next week! At least you are being looked after.

    Chin, up,

    Love

I empathise, Hileena, mine is monitored as it rose thanks to the humira and it requires medication. I think it can be an age-related thing (sorry  ) so ease up on the salt, don't have too many fizzy drinks (I'm sure champagne is OK though  ) and I hope something can be done to help. I agree - it's another thing you can do without. ((())) DD

I'm sorry, Hileena. It's the old straw and camel's back thing, isn't it? I agree with Elna and DD. Could be the meds but watch the diet too. No peace for the wicked

    Hello Hileena

So sorry about your BP and no wonder you are fed up!

I am in the BP club too unfortunately but the pills seem to be doing their job for me fairly well and haven't interacted with any of my other meds or given me any unwanted side effects.

A couple of other peeps have mentioned home bp monitors - we have one at home and, like Elna, monitor our own bp and just let the doc know if there is a problem. That avoids the problem of falsely high readings caused by being at the GP when it is taken. May be worth considering.

Good luck with all 4 of your appointments next week  !

    Thinking of you.

I have high BP or should I say I did :)

High BP is caused by many factors, i.e. pain, age, steress, the sight of white coats and other factors too numerous to list.

Mine is controlled by pills from the GP and is at the right rate now.

Why not buy a DIY BP monitor for about £20 and do it yourself at home when nicely relaxed watching TV.

Beware not to drink tea/coffee right before you do as they can raise the rate. :)

    Dear Hileena

If you do decide to buy a bp monitor, get it checked out with the one your gp would use on you so that you know that you are both talking the same language!

If you purchase one, do not use it too often, in a day, there is no need to take so many readings. The gp takes an average of your readings.

Years ago, I was asked to buy one as they were so short of them at the surgery. :o

Mr SW was once told not to pay too much attention to the BP monitors you can buy as they aren't as accurate as the manual pump ones.

Hileena, I have high BP and it has already damaged my heart and I am 40!!! I think the strain on our bodies of this disease is too much sometimes. Pain alone causes BP to rise.

I know it is a pain, but get it checked and take meds if needed. For some people a short walk each day can bring it down. Sometimes though it is hereditary. The meds work really well.

I hope it comes down soon.

Hi Hileena and everyone ,This B/P is a worry been monitored mths now my B/P has never been the same a different reading every time the worst being in April ......week in hospital ... Leflunomide could have a bearing in my case guess the reasons are many ,but I wondered if anyone has any first hand knowledge useing the RESPeRATE .expensive but if it works to bring B/P down to safe level that can only be good ,wonder if it is suitable for everyone with high B/P though hope you feel better soon Hileena .Marrianne :)

    Hello

Just wanted to respond to Marianne's question on "RESPeRATE". Mr Tillytop and I bought one to try and we found it difficult to use and it didn't seem to help either of us unfortunately. As you say they are expensive but I think I'm right in saying that if you buy direct from the manufacturer online you have a "money back guarantee" which allows you to try it out and send it back if it doesn't help you. That's what we did and there was no problem with the refund. You can buy them in some high street chemists now but I don't think you get the "try before you buy" option if you do that.

There's an Indian ayevedic remedy for high bp called Ivy's Muktavati. It works for many people, including me; look on ithe internet for a lot of testimonials. It's quite expensive, and although there are versions other than Ivy's they don't seem to work as well for some of us. Since all the EU kerfuffle with complementary therapies it's quite hard to get, but I have a source (I hope!), pm me for details if you're interested. I've taken it for years, after suffering from white coat hypertension and labile (variable) bp that seemed to be getting worse. Never had a high reading since.

The ingredients just list a lot of herbs so it should be harmless, and ayevedic remedies are well thought of in the East...though just about unheard of over here.

 deadly nightshade is a herb. Please proceed with caution.

I hadn't heard of this so I googled it. Apparently, it contains, among other things, 'rauwolfie' which people with epilepsy shouldn't take.
