You've remembered the salient point, Sticky. Epilepsy is a tricky one to deal with and rules out a fair few things. I think this is best left to the medicos, Hileena, help yourself as much as you can re diet etc but don't embark on anything that is not medically recommended. Take care, OK? DD

    Hi
It was Helen that suggested the Indian remedy No me :( .
I tend not to go down that route because so many things clash with epilepsy tablets.
    Thanks for the warning though

Hileena, sorry about that, and sticky, thanks for looking it up. I tend to forget about making sure ingredients don't affect other conditions, because it doesn't apply to me, though that's no excuse. Don't anyone take my advice without researching it yourself first!

I don't take anyone's advice without researching it first, Helen  When you're on DMARDS or anti-tnfs you can't even take half the antibiotics let alone over-the-counter stuff so you soon learn paranoia  I knew Hileena has epilepsy so thought I should check it out.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Thanks Sticky
I've been clear for 33 yrs {last pregnancy} but still have to take meds but if there is anything that MIGHT clash with it.....i dont take it.
I was prescribed amitriptiline {sp} and I had it at the back of my mind that I shouldnt take that so rang the GP and he said its OK....I said I dont think so......she then checked it and said yes there is a chance it could affect you but that is on a much higher dose.....not the dose I'm prescribing.....I said no thanks.
We do have to be so careful dont we.

    Hi Helen and Marrianne
Theres no reason you should know that I have epilepsy  I'm on here because of my arthritis and spinal problems etc etc
    I do check everything.
I know that none of us are docs on here and we just speak of our own experiences.
    Take care both of you
    Love

    Hi again Hileena

Just had a thought. If you are thinking about buying a home BP monitor, you might want to have a look at the Blood Pressure UK website http://www.bloodpressureuk.org/Home. They have advice on buying monitors and recommend some clinically validated ones. They also have lots of useful info on BP and meds.

    Hi Hileena
Your info about epilepsy & not having had it for 33 years really cheered me up. My son who broke his leg in a road accident 10 years ago started having problems with it 3 years ago, has had a series of operations on it because of a deep ulcer that developed & skin grafts after the ops which failed. The last one seems to be working at the moment & the ulcer seems to be finally healing. 12 months ago he started having epilepsy attacks & his now on medication for the rest of his life. Maybe it is the ops & medication that started them off. Hasn't had an attack for 9 months now so fingers crossed that the epilepsy will be under control now. He has just been allowed to go back to work part time.
    Thanks again

    Hi Gretta
    Glad the info helped you.
Mine started at about 18months old and I'm 66 now :o
Apparently during pregnancy my body was getting rid of the drug too fast so there was never enough in my body to keep me stable. After that things were fine.
I still take meds and like i said even if there is only a slight chance that something will affect me I wont take it....I drive etc so not having my life turned upside down

    Love

    Hi Hileena
Told my son about your epilepsy, it was good for him to hear about your experience of it. He had his driving licence taken off him for 12 months, has to wait until March next year to get it back, as long as he doesn't have another attack he will get it. He is 43 & really needs it to get to work as he lives 20 miles away from his job. DSS are paying for a taxi to take him to work & collect him again after. Must think it is cheaper to do that than pay sickness benefit, he had to attend one of those meetings where they decide if you are fit to work or not, decided he was fit to work part time. Thanks again
