    Hi Joan

I just wish I knew really what everyone says its like, i know it will be hard work. My dad says its painful but manageable pain that you can alleviate with drugs right after surgery.....

    Thanks for your message..

    Hi Elaine
I haven`t had a TKR but have 1 THR. The recovery can be painful initially, but it is not the same as the awful gnawing arthur pain, and I found it responded well to the painrelief I was given.
Just make sure you have organised you stuff at home so you will be able to reach things without too much bending etc.. Try to do the physio exercises regularly as they advise and it will all help.
This is the hardest bit, waiting, but it will be worth it! xx

    Hi NB

Youre in the day before me arent you? I hope your surgery goes well too!
My dad who has had THR as well as TKR said after the hip he was much better than post TKR but he lost a lot of blood which he wasnt told until he got home....I am sure they will give me morphine intially and then some appropriate pain relief...
Only got me mum and dad at home both over 80, bless so im making it hard for them....Still going to gym and doing my hydro this week, wont do it next week as its later on a wed night and I get admitted 07.30am thursday...

    Thanks for message..

    Hi Elaine
Yes i am there on 24th, but should be home same day. Which ward are you going to? If I stay over I will look out for you !!
I wasn`t allowed any visitors on my first day as I was too out of it and was in the high dependecy ward. I was on a lot of morphine pre op so was on a morphine infusion/PCA afterwards so it took a bit longer to come to. Maybe your parents could wait until day2 to visit you as you might be groggy anyway?? I suppose it depends how well you recover form anaesthetics. It is quite a journey for you and them to Wrightington from home i expect.
Take care and don`t worry what people might think and just take Sol. You will need home comforts! To be honest no one will notice I`m sure!

    HI NB

You know i didnt even realise you were going to the same hospital as me....Its very sweet of you to offer to look in on me but please look after number one, I am very touched that you have offered this kind thought...
I have been told will be on the morphine pump thing right after operation, never had morphine before.....
I think I will be too out of it for visitors too so will see my folks next day if im not like a flattened kipper!I am getting admitted to Ward D at first but then you either get moved to ward 5 or 6 dont you?
    I need my little Sol...

    Hello Elaine,

I just wanted to pop my head round the door and wish you luck. We'll be in your pocket on the day. I hope there's room for me too! It's natural to be nervous. Sounds like you've been given some good advice by some very wise people.

    All the best.

You know what I couldnt ask for nicer responses than ive had on here and it does help knowing someone is giving you a wee thought...
I went to education therapy session today, I was the youngest there by a mile but most hadnt had their dates for admission yet unlike me. I found out that after my operation they try and get you up 2-4hours post surgery even if its just for a few mins and will have a drip, catheter and morphine pump thing...Bit apprehansive about morphine as it makes lots of folk sick...Also found out post op will need to inject or take tabs for prevention of blood clots......
I am a big baby and still very nervous but the member of the physion recovery team today assured me she would look in on me on admission day and that I wasnt being silly wanting my cuddly in with me...

patient comfort is important so take Sol.

No ops are nice so how you feel is perfectly normal. Just take it each day at a time.

    All the best,

They can give you something for the sickness caused by morphine, so don't worry about it. Thinking of you....but you'll be fine...
