I am pleased it's come through, that is good news as they are useful things indeed. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Yes I'm so relieved.....
dont know about you DD but I need a space to get the rollator out of the car....{without hitting the car or other cars}
Peter just reaches into the back of his car and lifts it out or lifts it up and pops it on the back seat....me I can just get it as high as the back seat and then go to the other side and pull it from there.

Ah, a little bit of common sense by those in charge. Great news, Hileena. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thats odd isnt it? I too thought they were issued for 3 years too...Knew it was up to the badge holder to inform then if they felt a condition had improved and no longer needed the badge but cant imagine that happens too often...
Hope you get answers when you phone up...

Has anyone noticed recently how many empty blue badge bays there are?
I can't get a BB but need one, when I park at the supermarket the only available parking is BB bays, I was in a large multi story car park today and there were loads of MT BB bays.0 -
Well here we go, I rang the council this morning, forgot that department was closed on a Saturday :oops: after the normal wait to which number to press for my department. The lady I spoke to was very polite,so to start off with I didn't want to make a fool of myself in case any thing had changed, I asked her how long does a blue badge last, her reply was Mmm12 months, i said I thought it was 3years, my last one was, I explained what had happened, she then went to speak to her supervisor, then told my I was correct it was 3 years :roll: & she would email blue badge department who would be in touch. they rang me an hour later & said it was because my letter I had sent them only went up to December 2013 didn't realize, I have found my letter from when I was first awarded my benefit instead of the letter I received which informed me to fill in the back each car I changed to or the expiry date which is December 2013 which ever was earliest, I hadn't read it before sending it off stupid or what :oops: :oops:0

Hileena - delighted for you. They make such a difference to daily life. I'm pleased you haven't had to fight for this.
Yes Queenfan the system can catch you out like that. My badge expires in April next year and I'll have to ask the DWP in January for a letter that states my entitlement is indefinite or my Local Authority here in Kent would only issue a badge for a short time. Here in Kent you have to allow 10 weeks to get a badge. I triggered one for my elderly mother 17th October and have been told that today it's gone to the printing company and will be with her within the week. It's utterly mad how long these take now.
What I'd do if I were you is to get another entitlement letter and send a copy of that back to the Blue Badge Department asking for it to be re-done. Once you get the re-jigged BB return the short-term one to them for destruction. Hope that helps.

I rang the Blue Badge dept after my appt with my Occ Health dept last week, the doctor there queried that I didn't have one, to be honest I never even thought of applying for one up until that point. So I rang my local council yesterday and spoke to a very helpful man, who has confirmed that I am eligible, not sure how long it is for, but I am delighted. It means I can use the disabled space at work which is so much easier for me. We have had black ice over the last week or so and I am terrified of falling.
Sheena x0 -
Sheena if you can answer this without me being too nosey what was it that makes you eligible.
I'm sure you do qualify I just don't know what I have to do myself.0 -
To get mine I filled in an online form through the council and then received a phone call wanting to come and fill all relevant paperwork ,to be honest didn't really expect to get one but was pleasantly surprised. Think it lasts 3 years or until no longer required
Eileen x0 -
Hello Blueknees, I think the only way to find out if you qualify is to apply. When it was suggested by a friend that I should apply I rang my local Social Services and they were very helpful. (That was a good few years ago now, I am sure there is info on the web about it.) I've never had any trouble renewing mine as I use crutches (on a good day) and now a rollator (on all the other days) to get around. BBs are awarded for all kinds of reasons and it's best to base your form answers on a bad day. Mind you, judging by the number of people who park in the bays without displaying a badge I do wonder why I bother getting mine. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Hi Blue knees, messaged you privately, haven't received mine yet so don't know how long they last. Up north you still have to pay in city centre carparks but at least they are accessible spaces.
