Hi
I have just got my new knee sorted and before I had it done was diagnosed with trochanteric bursitis in right hip. Well I thought after having had surgery everything would fall into place but now have bursitis in both hips...It got so bad that last week had to come out of shop was in with me mum and dad and go home...Also got in in both hips now, it hurts when I walk and having real trouble sleeping, the pressure on each hip only lets me sleep for about an hour and a bit.....
Should I go to doctor or is this something that may right itself...Im bit hacked off..

Oh its not nice I had it in both hips too whilst preg with my son. Generally will settle eventually expect its a result of the hip stress as the rotator group inserts at the greater trochanter so if they're tight then likely pulling on there irritating the bursa- prob secondary to your knee trouble. Anti inflamms may help along with ice packing 10-15mins over the greater trochanter - I know its hard but lying on them will obv aggregate - you could try a memory foam pad under if you really need to lie on our side.x a good deep tissue massage around the gluts etc will likely help to take the stress off a bit.0

Aww Elaine...I'm sorry you are suffering....I cant sleep on my back because of spinal problems so do understand how much your hips must hurt.
As for the doc......come on  You know the answer to that one...dont you?
What would you say if it was me asking you???

OK so trying to be careful about giving advice here as been in trouble already!!!
Codeine phosphate is codeine and paracetamol, usually docs are happy to prescribe this along with brufen as they are metabolised differently. I have taken them together no probs sand on docs asdvise . will leave that with you.x0 -
Hi
Very sorry to hear about your bursitis. I've suffered from it myself, but just one hip. Yes, very difficult to sleep.
In my last job, in a hospital, many patients had an injection for pain relief with trochanteric bursitis. It's definitely worth discussing pain management with your GP, making sure he/she knows you can't sleep.
All the best

Hi
I'm not sure that I agree with Lizzies post.
I dont think codeine has paracetamol in it all
Please let me know.....if it has paracetamol in it then I'm over-dosing :shock: {prescription}
As far as I knew co codamol was the one that had paracetamol in it???

Hi there....I am having hip injections in march for suspected bursitis. I can't take anti-inflams even with a stomach protector, get terrible side effects.
Codeine does not contain paracetamol, I have to take paracetamol with them, on prescription, as it activates the codeine. You can take ibuprofen with codeine or co-codamol (which do contain paracetamol) I was on this combination until I found out my stomach could not tolerate the anti-inflams.
Has a doctor diagnosed the bursitis? If not go and see your gp, they are the best people to give you advice on medication etc.

No ur right I was thinking of coproxamol just making Sunday lunch realised it was codeine phosphate! No paracetamol just pure codeine in them -doh!
So as said my doc was happy with me taking it with paracetamol and brufen.
As said u could look at a steroid injection to help too if it doesn't settle x
P.So was coming back on to correct the mistake obv other less sleep deprived got here first!

Hi Elaine,
I'm feeling for you, I had trochanteric bursitis in both hips last year- it's so painful, and stops sleeping- I resorted to buying a soft memory foam mattress topper, it helped a bit but not a lot. Eventually my rheumy nurse arranged for steroid injections into both hips- they injected local anaesthetic in 1st so it wasn't painful, and used an ultrasound scan t guide the needle into the right place-it meant 2 or 3 days of total rest afterwards, but after about a week it was much better and I haven't had any trouble for over a year now.
Hope you get the help you need soon.

Have read your other answers and its fine dont worry anyone can give wrong advice...As for being in trouble on here, it happens, we move on, finito!
I did take coproxies before my TKR so I can take brufen with codeine phosphate, will try it...

Hi Deb
Im guessing the foam protector wouldnt help that much so not overly confident in forking out for that, maybe? The injection might be okay if they use local anaesthetic, might make it a bit easier having the needle!

Im guessing they either work or they dont for some people? Will just have to go see about it, see what GP says..

Hi I have been diagnosed with bursitis in both hips which keep me awake every night, had a steroid injection with no improvement so gp reluctantly gave me oral steroids which do help.

What sort of steroids, is it prednsilone we are talking about here? Or is there other ones? Steroid injections in my knee never helped me so not sure if in the hip would help...Worth a try..

How are you going with the hips Elaine? I had my injection Monday and had 2 fantastic nights sleep but, alas, all is back to "normal" pain now. Oh well, at least I tried. The actual injection into the bursa was not too painful, sharp scratch, pain for literally seconds and then everything went to sleep lol. Couldn't feel my leg for a few minutes. I suspect that the local anasthetic that is used with the injection was the cause of this and, perhaps, was the reason I had 2 good nights. Anyway, hope you have got it all sorted out now.
Take care. Dee x0 -
Hi Dee
Not heard anything about my physio yet am hoping for someone to contact me next week so no further on...Been scored 0 points for atos ESA medical..

Oh hun....I'd like to say I'm surprised about the zero score but I'm not, this is happening all too often. Have you appealed? If you are have you let them know? And ask them to keep you on the assessment rate ESA while you are waiting for your appeal to be heard. Putting it in writing and sending it to them is the best way to do this, and send it recorded so that you have it on record that they have received it. Hope all goes well with this, as if we don't have enough to worry about!!
Hope the physio gets sorted soon and you can get back on track. Take care.
