Colonoscopy countdown that is, so needless to say vowels will not be involved. He is due to have his colonoscopy tomorrow afternoon at 2.30 (this has been arranged as a result of his recent appendix trouble) so at 2pm today he will kick off with the first litre of 'flush out'. On the more awkward side of things however, we only have one lavatory which I guess is going to be his sole preserve over the next few hours. I've been practising my leg-plaiting. DD

Please wish hubby all the best from me DD. And yes, you will be crossing your legs a lot, sorry. But at least it will be all over and done with. You must prepare him for afterwards, when everyone is laying in bed and it becomes extremely windy. I must admit, I got the giggles. Everyone(including me) just could not help ourselves.

I remember it well. Speaking as the one who swilled the litres of fluid and left all doors open to facilitate my sprints  , I suggest you apply a peg to your nostrils and enter as soon as he leaves - whether you need it or not :o It's the only relatively safe time.

Good luck, Mr DD. Just pour the stuff into a beer glass, close your eyes (and close your mind to reality) and swig it as if it were a yard of ale. Then repeat as required.

You are so going to enjoy your tea tomorrow :D

Not having had this process myself I cannot comment, other than I know people who strayed too far from their ' facilities' ....

Thank you one and all for your good wishes. He is nearly through his first dose but he only made it up to 1/2 a litre. I added another splash or two to the jug when he wasn't looking but he's rumbled me. Double  He's read the leaflet again and again and again but still did it wrong. Triple  I am aware of the post-treatment wind but maybe it will no more than the usual week-ends output. Or maybe a little less as beer and curry won't be involved!

The notes say that he is to also drink between eight and ten glasses of water during the day whilst consuming the gut cleaner. That makes sense to me, in that surely it's to avoid dehydration, but he says he's drinking enough with the stuff. Hey-ho. DD

He is on his last pint for the day (and finding it very hard work to quaff), the world has begun its rapid descent from his bottom and he has a cracking headache (apparently one of the side-effects) but I don't know if he's allowed to take anything for that. I would presume not - do any of you colonoscopic 'veterans' know? I feel helpless whereas he's just resigned to it all. :( Roll on this time tomorrow. DD

Once again I send my thanks. He's now asleep (having had a couple of glasses of Lucozade to relieve the headache) but I suspect this peace won't last. I've put a pillow and wool blanket downstairs near our one recliner (we have a ground floor bathroom) and I wish I could do this blasted malarkey on his behalf. I'm experiencing a taster of his life with me and I don't like it - the helplessness is appalling. DD

Morning all, I am pleased to say that life is very quiet on the vowel front. He managed to get the last litre down between 6 and 7.30am and then amused himself by doing the ironing in between 'sessions'. 'I thought I might as well do something useful,' he explained. (Note to self: can this stuff be bought over the counter? A weekly dose could 'relieve' me of one household chore!)

Apparently they won't let him out until he's eaten and drunk (I guess they'll provide tea and toast as post carpal-tunnel op) so I hope he'll be home by 4.30pm. He has banned me from going with him as he doesn't know how long he'll be and he knows that hospital seating is not the best for a crock like me. Chicken with veg is on the menu tonight - he suggested beer and curry but I think he has to be a little kinder to his raw insides, don't you? DD

How do I book Mr SW in for a colonoscopy? I can see a long queue of 'volunteered' husbands forming already

Chicken might be a good idea though, as I recall from my own experiences of colonoscopy and barium enema, quantity was the overriding priority

Unsure!  I'll suggest that once he's able to laugh at it all a little more readily.

He's home and everything looked to be OK which is a relief. He's eating bread and cheese, he has a cuppa to hand and I've bought him some Guiness for the next Six Nations match.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement, it is much appreciated. DD
