. . . . . a fresh dressing of human blood on his lasagne?
It's been one of the roughest days ever, and after seventeen years that's saying something. Over the past few weeks my hands have been gradually deteriorating, I've been dropping things, having to pause more than usual when peeling / chopping etc, the housework hasn't been too easy and then tonight I did the classic: I grated the base of my right thumb rather than the cheddar which was the supposéd target. Good Grief Penfold (I would say 'Get a grip, Penfold.' but as I can't I won't. )
He came home about twenty minutes too early (note to husband, if you text 8pm than at least have the good manners to arrive at that time, not 7.40 ) and thus he found his dinner in a state of chaos and me dripping the claret all over the bathroom floor, my nightie, a bath towel and the basin. He's now asleep and I'm freshly oozing the red stuff.
I won't lie, it's hurting. I'm off to re-bandage etc. Dammit all to hell. I vaguely recall being told that I might lose some dexterity / grip after the carpal tunnel op: Mr Surgeon Chappie wasn't joking.
He'll be off to work at about 6.30 tomorrow morning, I may be off to A&E. We'll see. DD
PS I remember a dining companion being asked if he would '. . . . like some cretins in your soup?' The waitress meant croutons.

Oh dear DD. You really are having a bad time. At least I don't have the 'problem' of an OH appearing at the 'wrong' time!! Do hope your injury doesn't need a visit to A & E. Hope your pain levels will settle down a little soon.
Beryl. (((())))
P.s. hope enjoyed the tennis today. Shame Laura lost but she has done so well. Hope you manage to have a reasonable night.0 -
 That sounds sore!
Continually dropping things, is one of the most annoying, not to say dangerous, things about this disease.
I hope you heal quickly, and without the need for an A&E visit, but if it is needed..... You know the drill.

I am lost for words. Not many people can achieve this.

Ouch! It must be bad if you are thinking of going to A&E. Do you think it needs stitches?0

Ouch DD! Sadly, I know what that feels like......I didn't need stitches though  Like yours, it did add some extra protein to the meal.
Have you stopped bleeding now? Hopefully, it doesn't throb all night and keep you awake.0 -
Oh dear, DD. Do hope it has stopped bleeding and a trip to A&E hasn't been necessary after all. Look after yourself.

Blinking eck DD you don't do thing by half, hope its stopped oozing ands not too sore. I got one of those that you put cheese in and turn a handle well I did turn the handle I get oh to do it now, the joys of having a retired hubby. Mig0

Thank you all for your kind words. I managed to apply a magnificent effort of lint dressing, plasters and micropore tape to the wound, I can bend my thumb but am currently choosing not to because that hurts. I have scaled down the A&E thnking to ringing the GPs surgery and asking to see a nurse. I don't think a stitch or two is needed but then I'm no expert.
At the base of my thumb I have carved the most beautiful reversed capital D - now how appropriate is that? I won't lie, it hurts, and I am somewhat further restricted in what I can do but what is life without a challenge or two? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Making an appointment with a nurse is a good idea. I hope it goes well.
What is life without a challenge or two? well it's not your life that's for sure!
Take care (((())))

Shouldn't there be two 'D's for a dreamdaisy? Get that cheese grater out again, woman.
Seriously, a good idea to get it checked out.
Yeah, you're right. A challenge is exactly what you needed :?

Ouch DD
You don't do things by halves do you!
Good idea to go see the nurse
I'm impressed you managed to bandage your thumb
You tell me to rest it's my turn to say take it easy DD
Maria
Just remembered my friends mum was a hairdresser many years ago and had a very posh lady come in saying
" Ooo look at all the constipation running down your windows"
We still laugh about it today0 -
I'm in for 11.30. Apparently the surgery nurses don't do stitches but she will be able to tell me if I need to go to A&E. Hope I don't. I had much better plans for today, including going to the supermarket. Sticky, I suppose I could 'do' the other thumb.
We have to be so vigilant, don't we? No matter what we tackle we must have all our wits about us, one momentary lapse in concentration and bang! a mini-disaster occurs. I wasn't expecting the cheese to sheer in the way it did, and had no time to react. Hey-ho. Wish me luck at 11.30, I may be sometime. DD
PS Hello Maria, thank you and yes, I will be resting 'cos to be honest it's v v sore. I love malapropisms, they are a source of endless humour and thank you for that one, I needed a giggle.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Well it's one way of adding colour to the cuisine, but myself I prefer to buy red cheese rather than try the DIY route.
Just seen your update - hope you can avoid A&E. Perhaps nursie plus superglue can help...0 -
Oooh, I hadn't thought of that - thank you Daffy, that has cheered me, it's a positive thought and I like those. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Morning DD, I won't start with a 'cheesey' story hope all goes well with the nurse and A@E is not imminent, good luck and will catch up with you later.................Marie xxSmile a while and while you smile

Ouch!!!!! I hope the nurse can help. Maybe a few days of ready meals in order to give it chance to heal.
Take care,
Deb x0 -
Hello DD
I hope the nurse had good news for you. were you trying to grate your thumb add a bit of bone to the meal.
take care
joan xxtake care
joan xx0 -
Ah Joan, I don't know what I was trying to do (nowt new there, then. ) It was just one of those things that could happen to anyone but somehow it feels worse as I've done it. Somehow if he had it would feel different.
Well, I'm back. The nurse was very good, she has applied a steristrip, an iodine plaster and some further 'top dressing'. I disgraced myself by coming close to passing out - ludicrous behaviour by yours truly as I don't do the swooning woman thing simply because there's no point in doing it at home; he's a bloke, he'd merely step over my prone body and ask when dinner would be ready.
It didn't require a stitch and I have to return on Friday so she can re-dress if necessary. I was also given a tetanus jab as there was no record of my last one (not with this surgery). I won't lie - it's uncomfy so I am going to do the whole feeble thing and stay prone on t'sofa watching the tennis. He won't be in until 9, so we will have an easy pizza dinner. I have some shirts to iron but I'll check on his 'ready-to-go' stock first. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Course it would feel different if he did it, you wouldn't have chunks out of your hand.
Ironing shirts strikes me as a bad idea - if blood drips into the lasagne you just stir it in as extra protein, if wielding the iron starts the bleeding again it drips on a shirt and becomes 'out, out damned spot', and will interrupt the healing to boot.0 -
Ah Daffy, I am lucky in that one of few skills I have is that I can use my left hand with some degree of dexterity. When I was working I taught lefties on a regular basis so learned how to use that hand. It's one of the benefits of my 'banana' ironing board, the ends are the same and I am sure I can do at least three. (That'll take me to Friday.) If not I will ask a friend to step in - I can't ask him as he is working stupid hours and anyhoo this is my responsibility. Bleeding is no longer an issue - I'm all glued together (well, one bit of me is). DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
