Suppose there's no point me saying 'save your ambidexterity for something useful, like raising a glass'? Just because you can doesn't follow you have to....After all once a jacket has gone over the shirt and both have been pressed in a car for a while will anyone other than you know that you have failed in your domestic duties?0
-
No, there's no use because I'll know as will he. I fail on far too many fronts at the moment, I don't want to add more. He won't be home until at least 9pm so I have plenty of time to sort myself out. In the meantime there is the issue of a cuppa and choccy hobnobs. I require comfort. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Thought you'd say that, I do understand. A cuppa is on my agenda as well, although without the hobnobs(you can have mine), and a turn around the garden to smell the roses after a tiresome session of dealing with legal and admin matters.
Sending comfort thoughtwaves....0 -
Now DD
Practise what you preach and rest
S*d the ironing! Saying that did mine sat down now my shoulders and elbows are playing up so no violin playing tonight not that I can play anyway
You must keep your dressing dry if it gets soggy your steristrips will fall off!
Just remembered when my mum was in hospital really poorly I remember dashing out of the room asking the nurse for steristrips not for my mum but hubby had re opened a cut on his thumb and blood was everywhere good job it was the start of visiting as it took all that time cleaning the blood up as he dripped everywhere before he realised
The nurse looked relieved it wasn't for my mum
Hope this made you giggle
Take care of yourself DD please no more incidents

I'm proud to report that I have been sensible. I had a thumping headache but it's eased and it's now time for some more cocos (it's been five hours since the last lot). I haven't ironed a thing and won't until tomorrow at the earliest. It's time for another cuppa.
It's amazing how we can do these things and not immediately realise - I guess the sharper the blade the cleaner the cut and yes, it is very easy to re-open a wound, isn't it? That's why I'm being sensible today, it needs some proper healing time. I am keeping matters dry by wearing a meth glove then a Marrie on top, sealed with two lazzy bands. I look terrific. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Right, my lovely new dressing has come completely undone. I am debating whether to a) take it off and start again or b) re-stick it with more micropore. Even the iodine patch had slipped out of position. I have been very careful with it but I guess it comes down to the hurly-burly of domestic life (cooking, cleaning but no ironing). I'll try (b) first. Dammit. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
-
Dammit, indeed. Maybe a patch-up job until Mr DD, or some kind neighbour, can help with option (a). Have it ever occurred to you how ridiculously simple non-arthritic life must be? Want it. Do it. End of. :idea:If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
Steven Wright0 -
Non-arthritic life? :? Where the heck is the fun in that? :?: Being able to do what you want when you want? No thank you. Right, I have stuck everything down with more micropore. I have a lovely lump under the steristrip. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
-
You didn't fiddle with the steristrips did you?
Will it ast till Friday?
Would offer to come and redress it for you but still not allowed to drive
Mara0 -
No, I left the steristrip well alone, all I did was slide the iodine patch back over the wound. I do have some iodine so if I have to re-do it (I won't let him anywhere near it!) would it be wise to put some more on? DD
PS Thank you for the offer - I know that you would know what you are doing!Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Right, thanks to general housewifely duties the whole thing is very tatty and rather grubby (despite my donning the Marries and the meth gloves) so I am going to take a deep breath and re-dress it. I have some lint, I shall iodine that then pad it with sticking plaster to help it better stick. DD (who is feeling a tad sorry for herself) (silly moo)
PS Dinner tonight is reheated remains of Monday's lasagne - I won't be grating.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Can't fault reheated lasagne ,salad & garlic bread ?
Just found the & on this iPad. Mig0 -
Alas no, he doesn't 'do' garlic bread during a working week and apparently salad is only suitable for girls and veggies (his words not mine, spoken years ago and beware me if I forget). We had the lasagne plus carrots, steamed red cabbage and steamed broad beans. Apparently that does constitute a meal. I also missed AM winning the match due to cooking duties (note to self, when the next rugby world cup is on, and ESPECIALLY if England make the final, ensure he's cooking). Wife-life. At times it's rubbish.
On the re-dressing front it's not gone well. Hey-ho. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hope the re-patching is a success DD. Not too sure about the re-heated lasagne? I admit to being lazy with cooking tonight. Went out yesterday and have been really suffering today and cooking seemed like too much of an effort. Ordered in an Indian take-a-way and really enjoyed it..
It appears that, as usual DD you are trying to do a little too much with your damaged thumb. I know it's easier said than done, especially when you have an husband to consider too, but just leave what is not essential so that your poor thumb gets a chance to heal.
Take care. Beryl0 -
Sometimes trying to keep things dry causes damp elsewhere.I have on more than one occasion lost a plaster inside a rubber glove due to my hands getting sweaty inside the glove and I'm finding that the micropore I'm having to use on a split fingernail is quite quick to abandon a moist finger.0
-
It is tricky, isn't it Daffy? I'm in a mess. I've taken the lot off to let some air get to it. My efforts at a dressing fell apart in the night thanks to my dragging my hand under (or out from under) my pillow, the steri-strip came adrift but all is safely sealed. It's not pretty but there again neither am I.
Dinner went well until he decided to give me a small lecture about how to look after a thumb dressing. Twerp. He's never had one plus, because he has a wife-slave to do the mucky damp things of every-day life, of course his would remain untterly pristine. Hey-ho. DD
PS I know you're right, Beryl, but life cannot grind utterly to a halt. I have been only doing the minimum, promise!Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
DD I'm sure don't get it wet meant no washing up!
I'd have left it for mr DD you spoil the man I hope he realises it
My hubby bless him comes home from work and cooks and that can be 7 at night as I have no strength in fingers and hands so chopping mixing stirring causes great pain
I'm the washer up now our dishwasher went on strike! My fault I Said wait until we can find a cheap dishwasher! I wash up in stages which I know drives him mad coz he can do it quicker and he hates to see me struggling but as I say you have done enough sit and watch TV so I do half that night and half the next day
Thinking of your bandage didn't the nurse have it so part of the bandage is torn so it can be secured around your wrist? If so it would have stayed on my that's going back to my training days
It sounds like its healing well
Hopefully when you go tomorrow she will say its healing enough to leave exposed. No washing up! One question how do you stop water going down your rubber glove without taping it to your wrist as I never can! I've given up on the gloves!
Off to do more washing up can you believe I slept till 12.30! Talk about catching up
Maria0 -
I'm not spoiling him in the slightest - he's having a hellish time at work, when he comes in (which can be anywhere between 7 and 9pm having left at 6.30am) I feed him then he's straight back to the computer for another couple of hours. His life is currently tougher than mine.
The dressing was just one of those sticky white plaster things which she cut to shape around my thumb joint. That was then covered in gauze and secured by tape. No wonder it all came undone but all seems to be well, it's bared to the world and looking fine. I've bought some more plaster though, I will cover it again tonight. That seems like a plan. I have another appointment with her tomorrow morning - I must remember to get up! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Good luck with it DD
Gee thought my hubby had it tough!
Bet he doesn't get paid for the extra hours he works mine gets paid for 35 hours a week but works at least 40-45 hours not including the 1hour lunch break he doesn't get
Just remembered I never got off on time rarely got a break and never got my time back but woe be tide I tried to go early for appointment which i was entitled to! wish id not started thinking about all this!
My boss said once it was fraud if we left earlier than our sift finished! What about all those hours the NHS got out of me from staying over and not getting breaks! Are they committing fraud I asked! No reply from her as she went muttering down the ward!
That's it now my mind is in over drive Grrr
Let us know how you get on tomorrow
Maria
PS Hubby. Won't let me near a knife immature liability!0 -
Glad hear thumb is improving and you are coping ok, as usual DD. Sorry you missed AM. It was a great match, bit of a cliffhanger. Had arranged for someone to come and give me an estimate tomorrow afternoon, but have altered it as no way am I going to miss Andy tomorrow. Hope your appointment goes ok tomorrow.
Beryl0 -
DD did I miss this or have I posted somewhere on the thread ...sorry if I didnt...my brain is quite mushy...more than usual....DD I have injections in my hands and they are the only ones that work ..I have had them everywhere else... have you tried them,I am saying this because mine feel stronger after the injections....hope they easy up for you ...That sounds so nasty (((()))xxLove
Barbara0 -
Barbara my sweet, currently you have much bigger things on your mind. My mitts are 'misbehaving' thanks to the carpal tunnel surgery last November, that's all it is.
Beryl? I don't blame you for switching that appointment in the slightest! I suddenly realised I will miss the men's final (no matter who's playing) because I will be travelling back from Buckinghamshire: it's not quite the same listening to the radio. No matter, it's only a game, someone will win and someone won't.
Maria, that's just Monday to Friday, I forgot the seven or eight hours done over the week-end. It's just as well I don't mind my own company. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -

It's a good job we have this site
Maria0 -
DD what's this about dropping a steamer on your foot!
Hope your foots ok
As for a new crockery set I'd like one too but with my dropsy levels increasing I think I'd better wait! I quite fancy a Denby set but a cheaper one might be a better option
Maria0 -
I was clearing away the washing up and my hand just let go. I have a very pretty bruise on the top of my left foot. (Note to self, wear shoes in the house.) We are going back to my mum's house tonight, coming back on Sunday, so at least I won't be doing anything domestic for the next couple of days. Today, however, there's washing, ironing and some cleaning to be done, plus a visit to the docs. Life is one never-ending round of fun. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this.
