    Hi Petals
I've only just come across your post
There is nothing else I can add to everyone else's posts
I do understand some of what you are going through
My daughter has had a tough time this past year with bowel problems and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at the age of 18 and had 2 bouts of hospitalisation a scary time, she now has the worry of developing bowel cancer in the future as she could be more prone to it due to her condition
I have everything crossed for you hoping for a good outcome for you
    Big big hugs (((( )))) (((( ))))

Hi Petal, sorry it's taken me while to get back, I suffer with similar problems to you, I've had (can't remember exactly how many!) 3/4 colonoscopy's & endoscopy's now and they have found pollops and removed them a hiatus hernia. Nothing too dramatic luckily. I just wanted to show you that sometimes you really worry (I did when I started going to the loo crazy times a day.) And you go for these tests still worried sick and it turns out with huge relief it's nothing to worry about. I hope you get the scan appt soon so you have an idea what's going on.

For what it's worth I think you have done exactly the right thing in getting this checked out. My Pa was far too shy to go to the doctor about his bowel troubles so his death was inevitable - it could indeed have been a different outcome if he hadn't been so embarrassed.

We are here, end of. Come and talk to us whenever you need and we will do our best to help with support and encouragement. DD

Thank you so much everyone for your support. Just to up date you all, I have received my scan date, it is for Tuesday 17th sept (a week tomorrow) .
I think I may need some pocket duties though as I will be going alone for my appointment.

When my OH came back from his business trip on Thursday he was not feeling too good and was exhausted after driving home from France, so I didn't tell him about my doctors visit. He now has another trip away starting this Thursday for 10 days. It is an important trip and he must go so I decided not to tell him about my scan either.

I was afraid that he might cancel his trip and then if my scan turns out to be fine then I would feel terrible in case he missed his trip for no reason.

I am feeling much calmer now that I have a date. I don't know if I will get results on the day or if I have to wait and get results from GP. I hope it's instant results cos I hate waiting for news, good or bad.

Anyway, if anyone is free Tuesday next week feel free to jump in my pocket, everyone welcome.

    Thank you all, Petals x

I think the matter of when you get scan results depends on who is doing the scanning. If it's a radiologist (ie a doctor) you may well be told the results on the spot. If it's a radiographer you won't, or at least shouldn't be, as they're not trained to read them. I hope it goes well and I'm glad you're feeling a bit more settled.

Pocket duties are supposed to be for people who would otherwise be alone so no problem there at all. Please remind us nearer the time but I, for one, will be there.

I do understand your not wanting to worry your husband when he returned home on Thursday, exhausted and not too good himself. I'm not sure I think it's a good idea to continue to not tell him. I think I'd be reasoning that it would be his choice what to do about the next trip. You could encourage him to go anyway and assure him you'll keep him informed. He just might feel a bit hurt at being left out. That's just my opinion, though. Every marriage is different and that's no bad thing.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hi Petals.

It's good that you've got a date for your scan. You've said a 'scan', so is this an ultrasound? I agree with Sticky, if it's a sonographer, then he/she won't really tell you anything. Having said that, a sonographer did confirm my gallstones and I was also told about a kidney stone. I do hope you don't have to wait very long to get the result.

You know your own husband best, but I know that mine would be quite cross with me if I didn't tell him about the doctor's visit and the scan - particularly as you're so worried. At the same time, I know you're doing it for the best of reasons. My own husband isn't in the best of health and sometimes I try to protect him from things to save him from stress, so I understand how you feel. However, if you don't tell him, perhaps he will be hurt that you didn't give him the chance to support you? Just a thought.

I'll be in your pocket come next Tuesday. Take care.

As Sticky said PDs are for those who face these things alone so yes, count me in. I also agree on the husband-front; mine would not be happy that I had been dealing with this on my tod, he would feel hurt and left out (we've been there and done that and never again) but my husband isn't yours - leastways I don't think he is. You know him and you much better than us but please give telling him what's happening some thought - it won't be easy but it may be helpful. Hi Petals

Really glad to hear from you :)

Pocket duties were 'invented' for any of us who is worried about any appointment even if we aren't alone, but if you are going on your own you are definitely 100% entitled and you can count me in :)

I am so sorry you didn't feel you could tell your OH. Mine would be so upset if I didn't tell him, but I do understand that you don't want to cause him to cancel something essential, (I bet he would think this was was too though??)especially if it's 'nothing'.

Is there anyone else who could go with you??? Do I remember your Sister isn't local?? A good friend perhaps??

If you don't get your results on the day I think your GP will let you know as soon as he/she knows because your GP knows what a worry this all is to you.

I really admire how you are doing

    love

Yes I understand what you are all saying and under normal circumstances I would have told my hubby straight away. However, he has only just come through his own very traumatic experience of cancer and I so don't want to mention the C word to him, however remote the possibility.

I have put so much effort into building him back up physically and emotionally that I can't bring myself to knock him down again with this. Obviously, if i am found to have a problem then I will have to tell him and I will do it straight away.

Thank you all for volunteering for pocket duties, I will be going alone as everyone will be at work when I go, plus I haven't been shouting about it for obvious reasons. Fortunately the hospital is only a 10 minute drive from my house, its the same hospital my hubby was in for his op. so I know it well.

I will buzz you all before I leave on Tuesday, thanks again

    Hi Petals
I'm turning up for pocket duties too but will need reminding as the old brain is not as it was!
I do think you are right not to tell hubby considering his own health problems
Just remember we are all here for you
    Best wishes and (((( ))))

We all have to deal with these things in they way that seems best to us, petals, not the way that seems best to others. I'll be there, next week, cheering you on.

    Hi everyone,

Well tomorrow is the day of my scan so if anyone is free I will be needing you all in my pockets. I am going alone (apart from my pocket hitch hikers) and I am hoping for a quick result. My appt. is for 10.15am

OH is still away but i have booked myself a coach ticket and I will be joining him on Thursday in Bournmouth and we will come home together on Sunday. A few days at the seaside is just what the doctor ordered.

In the meantime I have kept busy, I have emptied my wardrobe and had a good clear out. I found stuff that still had tags on that I never even knew I had lol.

    Anyway, everyone welcome tomorrow,

    Thanks guys, Petals x
