Hi guys, I'm back home already.

Well, that wasn't quite what I was expecting. Firstly I didn't have the scan!!

Secondly, I did see the consultant who was really nice. He asked me lots of questions and then examined me thoroughly (wont put you off your lunch by going into detail lol)

Then he said that I looked healthy and he didn't think I had anything to worry about but has arranged an endoscopy for 2 weeks time to check for polyps which may have caused change in bowel habits.

So, I will relay all this to OH on Thursday and he can book the day off work to come with me to the next appointment which will be on 30th Sept.

Thank you very much to everyone that has supported me today, you guys are really great. Hugs and best wishes to you all.

So very pleased that everything went well, Petals. Is it an endoscopy or colonoscopy you're having? If you do have polyps these can be removed very easily at the same time as you have a colonoscopy. I had one last year, so if I can help you in any way, please PM me.

Hi Meg, yes actually I think you are correct. Colonoscopy, where you have to starve yourself before hand and then drink something to make you "go" he said I would be given a sedative so can't drive afterwards. Does that soundalike what you had?

Well, that is a little more positive, yes? My husband had a colonoscopy earlier this year, no food for 24 hours prior plus drinking sachet after sachet of bowel prep. . . . . . and a few trips to the loo. It wasn't fun but it was necessary. I will pass on a useful tip - get thee a tub of Sudocrem, it will help to relieve soreness. DD

Yes, that's what happened with me, Petals. I was on a restricted diet for two days, then a day drinking Moviprep (the clue is in the word 'move'), before the colonoscopy the day after. I would agree with Dreamdaisy about getting some Sudocrem, although I used Vaseline, for soothing purposes. For the colonoscopy, I had a sedative and I was also offered gas and air if I needed it. I'm sure my insides were sparkling! I could see what was happening on the screen and found it quite interesting.

Hileena, yes there is lots of short bread here and tea/coffee. I need weight watchers too but I will eat these first hehe

    Hi Petals
My daughter had a colonoscopy earlier this year
You can drink clear soup, bovril, clear jelly the day before
The sachets are made up with a litre of water and taste fowl, leave a metal taste in your mouth supposed to be vanilla! Yuk yes I tried hers! Mix it with orange squash something like that its bearable but only just
I hope it confirms you are ok my daughters was to find out how extensive her ulcerative colitis is and unfortunately its very extensive
    Keep strong

Geepers, two days with no food followed by a good "clear out".

That will be a good quick start to a diet. I'm not hugely over weight but I could do with losing a stone maybe. Would rather be size 14 than 16.

Might use this as my starting point for a healthy new me.

Glad to hear today's appointment was easy (and relieved because I missed pocket duties! ;-) ).

As I have no experience whatsoever, this is totally off the top of my head, but might I suggest not drastically changing your diet for the moment unless you speak to your doc first. Just thinking that may impact on your bowel behaviour x

    Hi
When I had mine....it was bad enough the fast and that vile stuff and then running to the loo but I had a fractured pelvis and fractured SI joint at the time and couldn't even get to the downstairs toilet in time so I had my scooter which has never been inside before and had to drive down our hallway and reverse up it

I'm sorry I wasn't around this morning petals but I was thinking of you. It sounds like a good appointment. I'm another who's had a colonoscopy and, like Megrose, enjoyed watching me on the screen. The prep liquid isn't bad, just plentiful  and the re are, I believe, no nerve endings in the colon so the proceedure doesn't hurt. I hope it goes well.
