Hi
I have had an awful day. I was putting some clothes in the dryer and heard an almighty `clunk` , felt my hip `slide` backwards in the joint and my LTHR dislocated. I screamed and cried and Mr NB came running in , rang the ambulance etc..
I was taken to A&E, where the x rays confirmed it was dislocated. I was sedated and they managed to manipulate it back into the joint.
I was so scared, and worried , but they were lovely.
I have a lovely zimmer frame now, and will be seen by the rapid response team tomorrow to see if I can move to crutches.
I have dislocated this same hip before ( 3 years ago at 18 months post op)
(I have both hips replaced)
I am tired and sore now :(

    ((((NB))))

How awful!! It's no surprise you cried, I can't imagine the fear & pain. It makes me shudder, you poor thing :(

Have you been given pain meds or doesn't it hurt now it's back in place? Sorry I'm useless, my joint replacement knowledge is pretty non existent!!

I hope you get to see the team tomorrow & it's all good news.

    Many hugs (((( ))))

    Hi Debbie
I had entonox in the ambulance and IV morphine. Thye gave me more IV morphine and IV paracetamol in A&E, and then a mild anaesthetic. I have to take my normal meds now, but have Oromorph if it gets too bad. It is much less painful now it is the right place but the muscles and ligaments are stretched/torn so painful.
I am feeling much more comfortable now. I am just very wary of movements etc...

Oh of course ... I'm so dim at times, sorry. Of course it would affect all surrounding muscles, tendons etc that's why you all do such brilliant prep work b4 the ops to support it all!!!
*smacking my palm on my forehead* Der

I'm so, so glad they made you as comfortable as possible whilst you were there & that uve got Oramorph to fall back on if you need it. Don't be too brave huni, you may end up doing more damage ... Please rest & stay medicated as needed.

More much needed hugs coming ure way ((((NB))))

    Hi
    Thanks everyone for your posts
I am feeling quite comfortable but my leg is a bit twitchy with muscle spasms which are painful.
I will ring my surgeon`s sec tomorrow to see what he thinks as the A&E is at my local hospital and my surgeon is at Wrightington.
My Mum has just dropped the kids back home after taking them out for tea. They were a bit upset seeing me (hearing me!) in pain but are glad to see me now.
It is a rare thing to happen.

    Oh NB
I'm so sorry......I can sympathise.....remember all I was doing was one of their post THR exercises and like you craaaccckkkk
Like you I screamed as well and Peter rang the hospital who said ring 999.......It was a bone beside the THR that I had fractured
Sent me home...nothing they can do will heal itself and that was it.
I was just weeks post op.....it must be awful to have had the hip so long and to go again.
I've been told that when it does heal I'll be left with a "dip"
    Thank goodness for supportive hubbys
    You take care

I hope you are healing well now xx
I had a very unsettled night. I hate sleeping on my back :( I kept feeling like my hip was dropping out of the joint again. So was scared to relax and sleep.
I ache so much today. I am up dressed and downstairs. Mr NB is working today, kids are at school, so I am on my own and feeling a bit scared to move about.
I will wait until after 9 before I ring my surgeon`s sec. And I am waiting for the Rapid Response team to visit at some point today.
It is all icy outside so I am better off indoors anyway!!

Ditto Barbara and Dibdab. It's freezing out today anyway, so stay in on the settee with everything to hand and indulge yourself.

    Hope all goes well today.

Only just seen this NB. How awful for you. I'm told I'd know it if my hip dislocated so imagine that translates as very painful.
I hope you can continue to rest up while you are all alone but keep the phone close to hand as a precaution.

    Best wishes
    Elizabeth xxxx

Oh no. Oh NB, so not what you wanted or needed, yes? I am so sorry, I cannot imagine the impact of such a thing but I do understand the 'sleeping' sitting up thing, I did a month or so of that after breaking mt left upper humerus. It sucks. :( Take things gently for a day or so until your confidence returns - it will in due course. DD

    Hi NB
I hate sleeping on my back...cant really do it but its nearly 9 weeks now {counting the THR} Its the "not knowing" that bothers me. I was just sent home and don't know where I should be at this stage {4 weeks} I do have a physio apt tomorrow but that's the first contact with anyone since it happened.
It must be a bit scary for you being on your own....I can just imagine.
Its not icy here but if its like that with you..... you are much better in the house, duvet day??? Any secret stash of choccies? Take care

Hi Thanks DD, Mig. Hileena, Deb, Barbara, Ouchpotato, and Elizabeth
I am still very nervous of moving in certain ways (obviously) and have endured night no.2 of very little sleep on my back (urgh! ouch)
I spent ages on the phone to various hospital departments yesterday trying to get the hip brace I have been told I should have been discharged with, but no one will take responsibility , so my surgeon has said I will get one fitted on Thursday at my follow up appointment. The problem seems to be down to my surgeon not being at my local hospital where I was taken to the A&E after the dislocation. I am annoyed that I could have a hip brace now which may give me a bit more peace of mind and more confidence, but have tried all avenues and so will have to wait, carefully til Thursday.
I am building up the courage to ring my new boss.
    Wish me luck.......

    Hi NB,

Sorry for the late post I haven't been on for a few days. I'm sorry to hear about what you have gone through. It must have been horrendous.

Just wanted to say that I hope you recover soon and you start to feel a lot better :)

    Take care

    Hi NB
I hope you have got a bit further with the brace.
    I've been to the physio today.....just a chat...no exercises
I've got an appointment at the physio gym next week.
I've got to stick to the 90 degree rule most of the rest of my life  Because I've had 2 THR's and one fracture 4 weeks post op. Have to keep sleeping on my back or at the moment I can sleep on my operated side with a pillow....he says it will be sore but will not do any harm. Its very sore at the moment so that's doubtful :o
Have you rung your boss yet?
Take care and I hope there is someone around with you.
    Love

    Hi Hileena
That`s what was told re restrictions due to 2 THRs and previous dislocation (and it still came out again! )
I hope your physio/gym goes well next week.
I can`t get the brace until I go to see my surgeon on Thursday, so I am having to be very cautious.
I spoke to my boss today, and told her where I am up to, and that I will know more after Thursday. That is all I could say really. She said she felt for me having gone through such an ordeal.
I am off to the Pain clinic tomorrow, double appointment, with my Mum as chauffeur :)
I am trying the v pillow in bed tonight to try to help my poor back :(
