Hi There
Hi Everyone,
I'm Steffan. I am 51, I live in Kent with my wife and two young boys.
I have osteoarthritis in both knees. I had a Steroid injection in both knees last night. Before that I've been on co codamol every 4 hrs.
I know that I will need 2 new knees in the next year or two.
I would love to speak to other (active) people that have had knee replacement surgery in their fifties to understand what I can hope / expect 're future exercise and pain management.
Many thanks
Steffan

Hello @Steffan welcome to the online community
You have OA in your knees and have had injections in them to help with the pain. You are looking to the future and want to know about knee replacement surgery and how members have dealt with this. Two young boys will expect you to be active as possible and I am sure you want to manage your condition as well as you can for them as for yourself.
I attach some links which I hope you will find useful
https://www.versusarthritis.org/about-arthritis/your-experiences/your-stories/charless-story/
I have added cycling and swimming links since those are both great forms of low impact (on the knees) exercise which can be inclusive for all the family. You mention you live in Kent, if you look at the site for local VA groups you may find one near you . This could be a great source of support for you and the family in the future if /when you have surgery.
There are some great conversations between members on all sorts of topics so do browse round the community and join in with us. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Take care
Poppyjane

I'm not sure you'll get many replies, I'm afraid. Those for whom surgery is a fix tend not to come back here. Hence the forums tend to have people awaiting surgery and anxious about it or those like me (RA and OA everywhere) who can't be fixed. However, all my replacements have been great.
This, from a private company, seems pretty comprehensive and sensible to me. https://www.spirehealthcare.com/health-hub/specialties/bones-and-joints/can-i-still-play-sports-after-knee-replacement-surgery/
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
