Sorry to hear your concerns about MTX I have just started taking it and apart from stomach pain I have no other side effects.

Would speaking to our helpline be of any help or asking your parents to?

    Hi

I’m so sorry you’re having to cope with this - especially at a young age.

I’ve felt that nausea too and know how awful it can be. It’s quite unlike any other type of feeling sick.

I’m sure your parents have your best interests at heart but if they’ve never experienced the type of side effects you’re having it’s not easy for them to fully appreciate how bad you’re feeling about all of this.

I know a couple of weeks seems like forever when you’re feeling so awful but could you try keeping a brief diary of your side effects for a few weeks - and show them that? Sometimes when people see things written down it’s easier for them to understand.

It’s definitely a good idea to phone the helpline as Naomi suggested. The people there are far better qualified to give advice than I am.

And I’m wondering if there’s anyone at school you could talk this over with? A counsellor or a trusted teacher?

I don’t know how old you are - and there’s all sorts of tricky legal stuff around under 16s needing a parent with them when they consult medical people. If your Rheumatology Department has a patient helpline, you may be able to request a phone chat with one of the Specialist Nurses about all this. Maybe you could investigate this on the hospitals website and then ask your parents what they think about you phoning for some advice about the side effects?

I hope you can find a way through this - and please do phone the helpline on this site
